This is so sad to watch :( so so sad and hard to watch. To hear him speak without life in him is hard, because that is what he did so well, but it almost offers a different tone, something more subtle than we are used to observing with this fine man.
@Trollaukinn. It saddens me too, I have damp eyes right now but it also gladdens me too. Who knows, maybe that little girl will grow up to be just like Christopher. For me it highlighted the real eternal life, the passing on of information and ideas to the next generation.
@MrSelidor7 Surely; she seems extraordinarily bright. She was lucky to have had a chance to meet him. It's a shame he'll be unable to infuse any more books with his ideas and unparalleled sense of humor. A damn shame.
This short video was a lovely tribute to his intelligence and his love of the best of Humanity (Art, Science, Music, Mathematics, Language and the free exchange of Ideas and thoughts) and a wonderful way of expressing his Goodbye, in his own way.. Hitchens, I think, was above all else, a Humanist.
I think it's sad that some people don't see Hitchens utterly human, vunerable and caring side. At the root of ALL of his arguments was a deep sense of caring about the world (religious or otherwise).
"Don't forget the LOVE bit"... and remember too that "Free Thinking" can also become just as much a dogma as any religion or philosophy. Free thought can also be challenged and clouded by every "belief" we accept as "truth." Self reflection, and the brutal honesty to truly hold oneself accountable for the way we define and use every word we learn, is key in avoiding the circular logic traps of any dogma. Only now is truly real.. remember the LOVE bit.
@thepalebludot No...It's called perspective based on experience, and focused effort to see past my own nose.... Let me guess. You are very young, and have never been truly tested. Can you claim to really understand what love is or why it might matter?
What you don't know is a lot, so save your clever jabs and go pay some dues before you go thinking that you have it all figured out. Try to listen to Mr. Hitchen's full message, rather than just the parts you want to hear.
When Hitch smiles at 0:35 his face looks just like a death mask. I wonder which frightened him more, the process of dying or the imminence of death? I also wonder what the chat with the girl would have been like if Hitch were feeling as healthy as he did in 2009?
@vau0807 What he would have said in 2009 is irrelevant, he said what he said when he said it, and his face can't look like a death mask because he is alive at this moment and he said in other interviews that his only concern was his beloved children. I miss him and I never met the man.
@sargentD808 I noticed a remarkable softening in Hitchens' demeanor in the year and a half before he died. He never faltered in his devotion to his principles but the arrogance and smugness that was often present in previous years vanished. He talked about his relationship with Francis Collins and how he was 'open to surprises' about the afterlife, although he was an atheist to the end. I never thought he'd become the most gracious of the 'Four Horsemen.' IMO of course.
Verily! There is a piece of flesh in the body which if it is sound the whole body becomes sound, but if it gets corrupt the whole body gets corrupt, and verily that is the heart.
@Asqalane1405 Are you a Sufis Muslim, you seem to quote passages from the Koran that are 'spiritual' in nature. I'm not a Muslim, however, find a degree of resonance with Sufism, the practitioners seem more gentle & peaceful
Quran"Whoever is kind to the creatures of God is kind to himself"
Bible "Love your neighbor as yourself"
I understand that both infer that at a deeply spiritual level we are all intimately connected, so much so that the suffering we inflict on other beings is the cause of our own suffering similarly the loving kindness we give others is felt by us. Why because our neighbor is ourself (Quran/Bible)
So morality is simple "Do not cause unnecessary suffering to any living creature"
Ibn Hajr al-Asqalani رحمه الله said, (in what would mean) .."The heart has been singled out for this because it is the leader of the body, and through the purificaton of the leader the subjects become purfied, and with his corruption they become corrupted.."
@Asqalane1405 Ya! The "heart" is the leader of the body, just like the fuel-pump -- not the driver -- is the leader of the automobile.
This just one more fallacy out of many that point out why ancient "scriptures" aren't very good guides for life at all.
At the time they were written, that may have been the best that we could do. But we've come a long way since then. Let's set aside the ancient superstitions and get down to business. We have a lot of work to do.
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله said, (in what would mean)
look at the tounge...it is an interpreter of the king of organs (the heart), that expresses what the heart wishes to convey or declare... the ear is the courier that conveys the news to the king of organs... a courier and a messenger that transmits what the heart wishes to make known... when the eye sees an object, it will transmit what it has seen to the heart...the intellectual function emanates from the heart.
@balamanti2 Sorry pal. But it's you who is, unfortunately, paying the fool.
The attribution of the heart as any sort of rational or emotional guide stems from the ancient Greeks (from which the messianistic Jews of ancient Rome borrowed much of their "wisdom"), who speculated that the heart, not the brain, was the seat of intelligence. The expression, now known to be false, has become so deeply rooted in language that it endures to this day.
Try turning off the TV & do a little reading instead.
@Asqalane1405 Christians and Catholics also said many things similar to yours, to reject god is a disaster, a sin, life is given by god, the way of christian is the right way, the good way, the path that would lead you to god and his heaven, and the list goes on. What makes you different?
@Asqalane1405 " Islam is the cure for the heart"> WHAT A JOKE ! I know exactly how women and children are treated under ISLAM and the fucking stupid "SHARIA LAW",who demands women to be STONED TO DEATH,children to be beaten until they bleed and men to have that FUNNY DIRTY LOOK with their smelly beards like CAVE MEN.
MOHAMMED WAS A PEDOPHILE WHO FUCKED A 9 YEARS OLD CHILD!
@ray180597 Allah is the god of Abraham. So saying he never existed is saying Yahweh or Jehovah or whatever the cool Judeo-Christians kids call their god doesn't exist either. But yeah, I agree.
he would have done well to remember the love bit more often himself. Luckily I am a free thinker so I can think that God exists as it is the most consitent worldview. One can even argue the omnipotence and the omniscience as a coherent picture of reality. Try to check your world view to see how it measures up watch?v=f7rrEFJ8Da4
bollocks. Just because a lot of people believe some thing dose not make it so. Most people used to believe the sun went around the earth, guess what the earth still went around the sun despite what the people thought. There is no god.
but the weight of evidence ( ie none) for god leads credence to the 'there is no god' school of thought. The god bothers have never produced a single bit of evidence for they god, not one.
watch?v=f7rrEFJ8Da4 and check what evidence you have for your world view. So what would make you think that God existed or what alternative solution have you found for the cosmological argument
evidence for evolution = the fossil record and DNA evidence.
evidence for the earth be formed naturally = the theory of gravity and the theory of formation and evolution of the Solar System by gravity.
What would make me think that go existed ? hard physical testable , verifiable evidence or it showing its self directly to me and showing though again giving hard physical testable , verifiable evidence.
the bible or any other ´holy book´is NOT evidence it is but a guess.
"the bible or any other ´holy book´is NOT evidence it is but a guess."
The bibleis evidence of how people have tried to understand their reality in the context of thinking that there is a God
Neither the origin of species or the formation of the planet earth are any evidence against the existence of God, far more fo the existence. Try the link and have a look what the cosmological argument is about.
Yes there for there show that the bible is wrong. There was no adam and eve , therefore no garden of edan and as such no tree of the forbidden fruit or temptation and fall. As such no original sin. Original sin on which all the Old testament faiths ie the Jewish , Christianity and islam are based. The formation of the earth by natural means disproves the biblical account of the earth being made in 6 days. Thus the bible is wrong and NOT the perfect word of god.
"Thus the bible is wrong and NOT the perfect word of god. "
Looks more like you are the perfect reader not to understand it. Sure you would have told people several thousand years ago about genetics and about the age of the earth in exponential numbers as they all discussed that over theri coffeebreak at the fireplace. And why did they use stone tablets instead of ipads or real stones to get stoned. They must have been really daft :-)
@HappyandAtheist Even Sam Harris isn't completely dismissive of so called 'spirituality' in religion, Sam often speaks & has a high regard 4 the contemplative religious traditions saying that they have the potential 4 insights that we are yet to garner into consciousness. Such experimentation may well contribute to our next milestone in the evolution of consciousness together with human/animal well-being; perhaps the fulfillment of the Biblical prophecy of the Peaceable Kingdom
There is no such thing as ´prophecy´ its just a guess by some fool in a so called ´holy´book. The bible is just a fairy tale. written by bronze age goat herders.
@HappyandAtheist 'Prophecy', I was being sarcastic. Now I would be interested to know if as an Atheist u, like Sam Harris, are not dismissive of the possibility of improved states of well-being through practices pioneered by early contemplative spiritual traditions(for want of a better terminology) to garner a different state of consciousness, hopefully an improved state of well-being for humans. Life on Earth may well depend on us changing to being more loving & non-violent.
@fourteatwo I took a look at the video you suggested and it confused me a little, I'm hoping you can help? Science can't prove/disprove the existence of a god because He is supernatural and not based in reality. Truth = conformity with reality. So the logical step is god cannot be proved or disproved (by placing him in the bracket of supernatural). A worldview is one that is consistent with as many facts as possible, God can never be a fact so is not irrelevant to my worldview.
"Science can't prove/disprove the existence of a god because He is supernatural and not based in reality."
Why do you place him in the supernatural. God is the logical solution to the problem of causality, nothing supernatural but all natural. Science is actually the methodological investigation of causality, mainly on a materialistic level.
I think problems that people have with God come from perceived attributes of God and fear of not being in control.
@fourteatwo I said God is supernatural because one of the points the video you recommended made directly claimed that science is not a tool that can prove or disprove God's existence. I assumed you shared that view but clearly you don't. I think the problem people have with God is that scientific theories attempt to explain the creation of the universe with falsifiable (and hence testable) hypothesis. Whereas religion invokes a creator who could create in anyway they wish (ignoring physics).
I find the formulation a bit unlucky there as the supernatural is usually associated with the irrational. It is more the difference between metaphysics and physics albeit I think that physics will eventually lead to a better understanding of the origin on the universe thus leading us to God but not to proove God. To see God in an irrational way is a dangerous thing but can be identified in as incoherent when testing ones worldview.
@fourteatwo I'm not really clear how changing the term changes the characteristics. The metaphysical is like the supernatural. They both allude to the existence of something beyond the empirical world. If you said God is observeable but exists in another (as yet unknown) dimension then I would sympathise with that view (I'm not sure I'd believe though). Occams razor suggests that if there is a scientific explanation for origin then you don't need God, it an added complication.
All have sinned and greatly offended the holy God of the bible. The just punishment is death then hell. Thats not Gods will. Gods will is that none perish. God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross paying for the law you broke in His lifes blood now He cane legally dismiss your case. You must repent turn from sin and trust alone in Jesus Christ for your eternal salvation.
to reflect about one's own existence and purpose of life
why we are here and why have to leave
to not follow whims and desires and the path of ignorance, as it covers up and blinds the hearts
to not deny one's own Creator, and to give thought about one's own origins, from some mixed drops of fluids we came into being, without having anything to do with it
Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. As the likeness of vegetation after rain, thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw...
@Asqalane1405 The more you expose yourself and your SICK, TWISTED & CHILDISH world view the more ISLAM is hated. ISLAM is a CULT of DEATH & DESTRUCTION,a contagious disease forced upon sheep like you .
ISLAM SHOULD BE EXTERMINATED and ALL MUSLIMS must be ARRESTED IMMEDIATELY before is too late.
And even if they see every one of the Ayat (signs, proofs, evidence, verses, lessons, revelations, etc.) they will not believe therein; to the point that when they come to you to argue with you, the disbelievers say: "These are nothing but tales of the ancients."
And We have put coverings over their hearts lest they should understand it (the Qur'an), and in their ears deafness. And when you make mention of your Lord Alone [La ilaha ill-Allah (none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)] in the Qur'an, they turn on their backs, fleeing in extreme dislike.
@Asqalane1405 Oh we don't fear Allah at all. We're staring right at Him. All there is: is void. We've torn the covering away and seen the madness underneath it, the sadism, the servility, the discrimination, the misogyny. How dare you preach an appeal for the neglect of understanding under this video, under the memory of this man. How dare you.
@Asqalane1405 I do not worship inanimate objects (lol). Maybe my morning coffee. how does one hop from the supra-natural, metaphysical deus ex machina of deism, reached as a god-of-the-gaps, who can only be entirely impersonal, to the personal god of Allah, who judges, answers prayers, and works through his Prophet? You get there through faith, through revelation. Faith is real for those who enjoy it, but when it comes to making claims on reality, its akin to cognitive dissonance
Say (O Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم): "The things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are...and saying things about Allah of which you have no knowledge."
@Asqalane1405 [part two] You also get there from literal interpretations of scripture. Which basically means that you don't qualify for any rational debate. Your position is very clear.
So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike, We have indeed made plain the signs for people who believe with certainty.
@ray180597 While I think religion is ridiculous I am with the muslim on this one. You are the FILTH. You are a terrible representative for whatever belief you have, be it atheist, or christian! You deserve hell if anyone does.
@moorg745 Who have asked you if you are with or without the Muslim ?? Who cares ?You are entitled to your opinion as I AM entitled to mine and this is a free country this is not a Muslim Country, there is no SHARIA LAW here.
@ray180597 Do all Christians think that you should stone your children? NO! The Islamic religion is the same. The people aren't the problem. It's the religion. Now make an actual point.
@Asqalane1405 Whether or not individual Muslims really believe in the cult of Mohammed, Muslims in the West find the 'Muslim Identity' very useful as a source of special entitlement, fast-track immigration, no-questions-asked welfare benefits, disproportionate political power, preferential housing and immunity from normal laws. There is thus no incentive to abandon their predatory sociopathic cult.
@Asqalane1405 So we need to attack Islam on both fronts, by demonstrating that the spiritual benefits of the 'faith' are bogus - Islam is confidence trick set up by a ruthless megalomaniac - and also we need to decrease the benefits of conformity by increasing the costs and reducing the benefits of being a Muslim in the material world here and now.
@Asqalane1405 Islam also offers immunity to normal laws, superior status to all non-Muslims (dhimmis) and sanctified rape and pillage where the victims are non-Muslims. Adherence to any belief system usually has two components - faith and conformity. In Islam, as with communism, the forces of conformity are very strong and are imposed with murderous ruthlessness. Nevertheless, once the faith has gone, the habits of conformity will become an empty shell, which will eventually implode.
@Asqalane1405 Muslims can get anything, and get away with anything, just by shouting 'racism' or 'Islamophobia'.
Here are some ideas of how to deal with it.
Altering the spiritual and material cost/benefits of being a Muslim
Like other religions, Islam promises spiritual benefits from being a member of the cult - namely avoidance of hell and entry into paradise, which in Islam's case is a well-appointed brothel in the sky.
@Asqalane1405 The 'strong horse' effect -- all the special privileges and legal immunities that Muslims in the West enjoy, so there are no social or material (as distinct from spiritual) incentives for them to abandon their cult. Being a Muslim gives you high social status, exemption from normal laws, and special privileged treatment in many areas of life.
It is reported that Al-Hasan Al-Basrî رحمه الله – Allâh have mercy on him – said:
The intelligent person’s tongue is behind his heart: when he wants to speak, he first thinks. If [his words] will be in his favor, he says them, and if they will be against him, he does not speak. And the ignorant person’s heart is behind his tongue: when he merely thinks of saying something, he says it, whether it is for or against him.
@Asqalane1405 The only option for defeating Islam is to undermine it in the same way we undermined communism - by a slow process of ideological warfare. There are three factors driving the growth and continued existence of Islam in the West.
(1) Immigration
(2) Undeserved public respect for Islam as a 'religion', when actually it is a primitive, anti-rational, totalitarian criminal conspiracy -- a combination of the Mafia and the Nazi Party.
@Asqalane1405 if a war broke out between Dar al-Harb and Dar al-Islam, not to mention massive sabotage of military and civilian infrastructure and violent intifadas in Muslim-dominated cities throughout the West.
This is not to say that the Muslims would win a World War either. The victors of WWIII would be well-organised authoritarian states with small Muslim populations who would be prepared to be ruthless in keeping their Muslims in order. China springs to mind.
In an age of nuclear weapons, the option of exterminating Islam the way we exterminated Nazism - by world war - is unthinkable. Apart from anything else, there is no guarantee that the West could win an all-out World War III against Islam. Our infrastructure, government and military have been too far infiltrated by jihadists. There would be thousands of Fort Hood style massacres of our troops
@Asqalane1405 Consequently, the ideology of Islam MUST be defeated. It must be consigned to the dustbin of history along with those other vicious totalitarianisms - Nazism and Communism. The alternative is our extermination as a civilisation, and the whole world being plunged into an endless theocratic Dark Age.
The strong person is not he who is able to physically overcome people. The strong person is he who overcomes his rage when he is angry. (Agreed upon)
@Asqalane1405 If we don't destroy Islam as an ideology it will exterminate us culturally and physically
Islam is an utterly ruthless totalitarian political system disguised as a religion. Islam will literally stop at nothing to achieve its objective of world domination, with all non-Muslims exterminated or enslaved. Muslims who deny this are lying (Muslims are encouraged to tell lies to further the expansion of Islam). Terrorism is an intrinsic and inseparable part of Islam. and that is a FACT.
@moorg745 If you would follow the scriptures literally as many Christians and all Muslims do you will have to INDEED stone your wife and children and that's a FACT. Get the facts straight.
@ray180597 Really? And when was the last time we heard about a christian stoning their children? That would be child abuse. Most creationists and fundamentalists don't do these things. Yes, it is hypocritical but obviously they don't do it because it is not moral.
Further more, have you considered that the same may apply to islam? That not all muslims take their scriptures literally? Get YOUR facts straight.
@moorg745 On August -16-2011,CNN’s Gary Tuchman reported on a FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIAN couple who killed their 7-year-old adopted daughter while practicing a violent form of discipline, based on the JUDEO CHRISTIAN BIBLE LAWS.
They reportedly beat their nine children regularly because they thought God wanted them to.Both parents were jailed after pleading guilty to the crime and the surviving children are now in foster homes. The bible is full of violent, draconian punishments for minor 'crimes.'
@moorg745 I don’t know about the rest of you, but this is just another example of how extreme fundamentalist Christians are. This is the same extreme religious group that wants to legislate our personal lives, and wants to stone homosexuals to death. Americans must be repulsed by this violent group. All religious zealots are assholes. All of them. It doesn’t matter if you’re Christian, Muslim, or whatever. If you’re a religious zealot, you’re an asshole! Period!
@moorg745 In July 2011,Anders Behring Breivik was arrested and charged with terrorism after a car bombing in Oslo and a mass shooting on Utøya island. As a result of his attacks,151 people were injured, and 77 killed.Hours prior to the events, Breivik released a 1,500 page manifesto detailing that immigrants were undermining Norway's traditional Christian values, and identifying himself as a "Christian crusader" Analyses of his motivations have noted that he display Christian terrorist inclinations
@moorg745 Orthodox Christian movements in Romania, such as the Iron Guard and Lăncieri, which have been characterized by Yad Vashem and Stanley G.Payne as anti-semitic and fascist, were responsible for involvement in the Bucharest pogrom, and political murders during the 1930s.Christian views on abortion have been cited by Christian individuals and groups that are responsible for threats, assault, murder, and bombings against abortion clinics and doctors across the United States and Canada.
@moorg745 Christian terrorism comprises terrorist acts by groups or individuals who claim Christian motivations or goals for their actions.Christian terrorists have relied on idiosyncratic or literal interpretations of the tenets of faith – in this case, the Bible. Such groups have used Old Testament and New Testament scriptures to justify violence and killing or to seek to bring about the "end times" described in the New Testament, while others have hoped to bring about a Christian theocracy.
@moorg745 They also desecrated temples by painting crosses on the walls with their blood. The Sonai police, along with the 5th Assam Rifles, arrested 13 members of the MNCA, including their commander-in-chief. Guns and ammunition were seized.
John Joseph, the Christian representative of the National Minority Commission, stated in 2000 that foreign funds used for Christian terrorism in the northeast are routed through Christians in Kerala. Are we still living in the DARK AGES ??
@moorg745 He was dragged away at gunpoint by a group of NLFT militants. His body was found with multiple head injuries in a roadside ditch in the Katabon area.
In Assam, the Manmasi National Christian Army (MNCA), an extremist group from the Hmar tribe, were charged with forcing Hindus to convert at gunpoint.Seven or more Hmar youths were charged with visiting Bhuvan Pahar, a Hindu village, armed with guns, and pressuring residents to convert to Christianity.
@ray180597 No one is denying that theses are terrible crimes, caused by religion. I despise religion, but I have christian friends. Not all of them are murderers. Some of them are good people.
@moorg745 In December 2000, Labh Kumar Jamatia, a religious leader of the state's second largest Hindu group, was kidnapped by the NLFT, and found dead in a forest in Dalak village in southern Tripura. According to police, rebels from the NLFT wanted Jamatia to convert to Christianity, but he refused. A local Marxist tribal leader, Kishore Debbarma, was clubbed to death in Tripura's Sadar (north) by militants belonging to the Biswamohan faction of the NLFT in May 2005.
@moorg745 A leader of the Jamatia tribe, Rampada Jamatia, said that armed NLFT militants were forcibly converting tribal villagers to Christianity, which he said was a serious threat to Hinduism. It is believed that up to 5,000 tribal villagers were converted to Christianity by the NLFT in two years.
In August 2000, a tribal Hindu spiritual leader, Shanti Tripura, was shot dead by about ten guerrillas belonging to the NLFT who said it wanted to convert all people in the state to Christianity.
@moorg745 In April 2000, the secretary of the Noapara Baptist Church in Tripura, Nagmanlal Halam, was arrested with a large quantity of explosives. He confessed to illegally buying and supplying explosives to the NLFT for two years. The NLFT has threatened to kill Hindus celebrating the annual five-day religious festival of Durga Puja and other religious celebrations. At least 20 Hindus in Tripura have been killed by the NLFT in two years for resisting forced conversion to Christianity.
@moorg745 and has been accused of forcefully converting people to Christianity. The insurgency in Nagaland was originally led by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), and it is continued today by a faction named "NSCN–Isaac Muivah", which explicitly calls for a "Nagalim for Christ". The state government reports that the Baptist Church of Tripura supplies arms and gives financial support to the NLFT.

Some people want young white females to mix with non-white males.
I made a one-minute video highlighting a very small sample of race-mixing advertisements.
I love white people, and I am opposed to race-mixing. But I do not hate non-whites.
If you click on my name “awhitesoul2012” highlighted in blue below this comment, you can watch my video.

When Hitch smiles at 0:35 his face looks just like a death mask. I wonder which frightened him more, the process of dying or the imminence of death? I also wonder what the chat with the girl would have been like if Hitch were feeling as healthy as he did in 2009?
vau0807 5 days ago
@vau0807 What he would have said in 2009 is irrelevant, he said what he said when he said it, and his face can't look like a death mask because he is alive at this moment and he said in other interviews that his only concern was his beloved children. I miss him and I never met the man.
sargentD808 4 days ago
@sargentD808 I noticed a remarkable softening in Hitchens' demeanor in the year and a half before he died. He never faltered in his devotion to his principles but the arrogance and smugness that was often present in previous years vanished. He talked about his relationship with Francis Collins and how he was 'open to surprises' about the afterlife, although he was an atheist to the end. I never thought he'd become the most gracious of the 'Four Horsemen.' IMO of course.

At the time they were written, that may have been the best that we could do. But we've come a long way since then. Let's set aside the ancient superstitions and get down to business. We have a lot of work to do.

Rejecting one's Creator is the utmost disaster that could ever happen to a person, its a covering up to a great level, and ungratefulness,
life is given therein, it is like a container that holds,
the way to life in the hearts is by Ikhlaas (Sincerity) and leaving showing off and polytheism

Peace be with you ;-)
fourteatwo 4 days ago
@fourteatwo

Life on Earth may well depend on us changing to being more loving & non-violent.
veganath 4 hours ago
@fourteatwo I took a look at the video you suggested and it confused me a little, I'm hoping you can help? Science can't prove/disprove the existence of a god because He is supernatural and not based in reality. Truth = conformity with reality. So the logical step is god cannot be proved or disproved (by placing him in the bracket of supernatural). A worldview is one that is consistent with as many facts as possible, God can never be a fact so is not irrelevant to my worldview.
sollibop 3 days ago
@sollibop

Gurkan8994 2 days ago
@fourteatwo I said God is supernatural because one of the points the video you recommended made directly claimed that science is not a tool that can prove or disprove God's existence. I assumed you shared that view but clearly you don't. I think the problem people have with God is that scientific theories attempt to explain the creation of the universe with falsifiable (and hence testable) hypothesis. Whereas religion invokes a creator who could create in anyway they wish (ignoring physics).
sollibop 1 day ago
@sollibop
I find the formulation a bit unlucky there as the supernatural is usually associated with the irrational. It is more the difference between metaphysics and physics albeit I think that physics will eventually lead to a better understanding of the origin on the universe thus leading us to God but not to proove God. To see God in an irrational way is a dangerous thing but can be identified in as incoherent when testing ones worldview.
fourteatwo 1 day ago
@fourteatwo I'm not really clear how changing the term changes the characteristics. The metaphysical is like the supernatural. They both allude to the existence of something beyond the empirical world. If you said God is observeable but exists in another (as yet unknown) dimension then I would sympathise with that view (I'm not sure I'd believe though). Occams razor suggests that if there is a scientific explanation for origin then you don't need God, it an added complication.

As a Muslim, to me this is paganism and polytheism,
meaning you're attributing divinity to inanimate entities, without even perceiving, everyone has an ilâh (god)

Did void initiate the universe?

Does void possess the Knowledge, Power to bring about the likes of it?

So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike, We have indeed made plain the signs for people who believe with certainty.
(Qur'an Surah al-Baqarah Ayah 118)

@ray180597 While I think religion is ridiculous I am with the muslim on this one. You are the FILTH. You are a terrible representative for whatever belief you have, be it atheist, or christian! You deserve hell if anyone does.

@moorg745 Who have asked you if you are with or without the Muslim ?? Who cares ?You are entitled to your opinion as I AM entitled to mine and this is a free country this is not a Muslim Country, there is no SHARIA LAW here.
ray180597 4 days ago
@ray180597 Do all Christians think that you should stone your children? NO! The Islamic religion is the same. The people aren't the problem. It's the religion. Now make an actual point.

@Asqalane1405 Whether or not individual Muslims really believe in the cult of Mohammed, Muslims in the West find the 'Muslim Identity' very useful as a source of special entitlement, fast-track immigration, no-questions-asked welfare benefits, disproportionate political power, preferential housing and immunity from normal laws. There is thus no incentive to abandon their predatory sociopathic cult.
ray180597 3 days ago
@Asqalane1405 So we need to attack Islam on both fronts, by demonstrating that the spiritual benefits of the 'faith' are bogus - Islam is confidence trick set up by a ruthless megalomaniac - and also we need to decrease the benefits of conformity by increasing the costs and reducing the benefits of being a Muslim in the material world here and now.
ray180597 3 days ago

Like other religions, Islam promises spiritual benefits from being a member of the cult - namely avoidance of hell and entry into paradise, which in Islam's case is a well-appointed brothel in the sky.
ray180597 3 days ago

(2) Undeserved public respect for Islam as a 'religion', when actually it is a primitive, anti-rational, totalitarian criminal conspiracy -- a combination of the Mafia and the Nazi Party.
ray180597 3 days ago
@Asqalane1405 if a war broke out between Dar al-Harb and Dar al-Islam, not to mention massive sabotage of military and civilian infrastructure and violent intifadas in Muslim-dominated cities throughout the West.
This is not to say that the Muslims would win a World War either. The victors of WWIII would be well-organised authoritarian states with small Muslim populations who would be prepared to be ruthless in keeping their Muslims in order. China springs to mind.
ray180597 3 days ago
@Asqalane1405
There can be no violent solution
In an age of nuclear weapons, the option of exterminating Islam the way we exterminated Nazism - by world war - is unthinkable. Apart from anything else, there is no guarantee that the West could win an all-out World War III against Islam. Our infrastructure, government and military have been too far infiltrated by jihadists. There would be thousands of Fort Hood style massacres of our troops
ray180597 3 days ago
@Asqalane1405 Consequently, the ideology of Islam MUST be defeated. It must be consigned to the dustbin of history along with those other vicious totalitarianisms - Nazism and Communism. The alternative is our extermination as a civilisation, and the whole world being plunged into an endless theocratic Dark Age.

The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said,
لَيْسَ الشَّدِيدُ بِالصُّرَعَةِ، وَلكِنَّ الشَّدِيدَ الَّذِي يَمْلِكُ نَفْسَهُ عِنْدَ الْغَضَب

Terrorism is an intrinsic and inseparable part of Islam. and that is a FACT.
ray180597 3 days ago
@moorg745 If you would follow the scriptures literally as many Christians and all Muslims do you will have to INDEED stone your wife and children and that's a FACT. Get the facts straight.
ray180597 4 days ago

The bible is full of violent, draconian punishments for minor 'crimes.'
ray180597 3 days ago
@ray180597 OK I admit I was wrong. Yet the vast majority of Christians do not do these things. Why would it be any different with muslims?
moorg745 3 days ago
@moorg745 I don’t know about the rest of you, but this is just another example of how extreme fundamentalist Christians are. This is the same extreme religious group that wants to legislate our personal lives, and wants to stone homosexuals to death. Americans must be repulsed by this violent group. All religious zealots are assholes. All of them. It doesn’t matter if you’re Christian, Muslim, or whatever. If you’re a religious zealot, you’re an asshole! Period!
