Jena 6 - I don't know what the controversy is all about. If 6 kids attack one kid (presumably because he is not the right color) then they should spend a few years in jail. PERIOD. Why would there be equal consequences given for different acts by people with different records of crime and school infractions? That is twisted. The noose hangers (NONE of whom were Barker) were given bigger punishments than some Jena 6 had been to that point despite their repeat offenses.

A) It was NOT a school fight. it's pretty sick to call it that considering it was at least 6 on 1 and the 1 had no idea he was in a "fight" until the paramedics woke him.
B) The attempted murder charges were lowered months before this became national news
C) They WERE adults except for 1 who was a few weeks shy of adult and had a LONG rap sheet & several broken probations with no punishment

D) He did NOT got to a party that night. That is a BS story. HE went to get his graduation ring, was helped on and off the stage & went home early because of a migraine and he started bleeding from the ears again. He reported blurred vision and headaches for several weeks after the attack.
E) The white guy who pulled a gun on 3 black guys was chased (3 on 1) in a parking lot to his truck where he grabbed his registered rifle but was jumped & had it taken. In front of witnesses.

No one got 20 years in this. That is nonsense. Bell was offered 2 years with one suspended (because he had broken probation 4 times - the probation was for severely beating a girl ) before he even went to trial in may or june 07 (BEFORE this became a national story).
The 20 years was just a rallying cry to get people interested (as was the mention of nooses in a seperate event over 3 months earlier that was punished) even though neither realy had anything to do with the facts of the matter.

They were talking about one year in jail with another year as a suspended sentence (and that is light considering it was his fourth violation of probation for a violent crime). The idea that he would get anything close to 20 years for this is absurd. That was just what his family and their supporters told people to misrepresent the case.

Did you know just recently in Texas a black girl was sentenced up to 7 years in prison for shoving a teacher meanwhile, now get this, the same judge sentenced a white girl to probation for burning down her parent's house!!! No, I think it was pretty damn lenient, actually. He had been on probation for the past year for dislocating the eye & jaw of a teen girl. Got slapped on the wrist for that then broke probation 3 times over the next year for both violence & property crime.
Finally, he gets arrested for hiding around a corner and knocking someone out from behind so 6 or 7 athletes could stomp his head as he bled from the ears then running & leaving the kid where people thought he was dead.

That stuff you mentioned in TX sounds bad, but BECAUSE of the Jena 6 scam, when I hear stuff like that I have to know more details before I assume it's true. If it IS true people should speak out against it.
But Bell was NOT tried in Texas & his case was GROSSLY misrepresented, so he's not the one to compare it to.

I live 30 minutes away from Jena. I was threatened by multiple african americans during the weeks following that just because of my skin color. I hold nothing against blacks, I have black friends. The "20 years" crap is BS people were fed to get people to give money & come rally. The only sentence handed down in this was 18 months with a good portion of it on house arrest while he got weekend passes & went to school.
Also, the injuries (Barkers maintain they were far worse than a "swollen eye") are irrelevant. Their actions are what matters.
