  • When you debate religion with a Christian, they are not even in the same conversation as you. Not even close. They just keep talking in circles over and over. I don't waste my time anymore, I just go heavy on sarcasm, they respond to that but not reason.

  • By far the stupidest comment by Creationist and Religious Nutjob j919or: "Faith IS evidence".

OMFG man, that cracked me up. You truly have the lowest level of intelligence I've ever come across.

  • @MrTimJr Dude I feel ur pain. Id be scared shit if i was in ur shoes too. Laughter may not be the best medicine here though.

  • @MrTimJr I think that ur problem is a misunderstanding of the word faith. The bibles definition is that faith itself is evidence. Faith is an ability to perceive the non material, spiritual nature of God, those without faith are dead to God bc of sin.

Its like trying to describe a sunset to a blind man.

  • @j919or Holy crap dude, you're cracking me up. You say MY problem is misunderstanding the word faith, after you said "faith is evidence"?!?!?! HAHAHAHA. I'm dying here, you're killing me.

You'll never change so I won't speak to you anymore. You have no room for enlightenment in your shallow and weak mind. Thanks for the laughs. At least I got a little value out of the garbage you posted.

  • @MrTimJr Nah I said that your definition of faith is based on modern usage and not on the ancient usage that along pertains to the bible.

You indict urself as a little off with your response which is illogical and avoids the reals issue which is the understand of the word FAITH.

But its prolly best u fade out for you are irrational and just taking up space.

  • @MrTimJr j919or walks away from every religious debate with the smug delusion that he actually won. He caught the disease and like all apologists, he fancies himself a silver bullet for defeating atheist arguments. Meanwhile, his opponents are shaking their heads in disbelief thinking "what a moron". Your exchange with him here was very entertaining. Good job putting him in his place.

  • ..... Those that seek to be controled and changed by God, will find him

  • Faith IS evidence. Those that have no evidence are able to believe bc God reveals himself to ppl. Faith is something that those w/o faith cant understand. It is the ability to understand God that is non material and cant be experienced with the 5 senses. Faith being the sixth sense.

There is evidence for God but not absolute evidence and that it by design. God lets those that trust in their own reason(that btw is corrupted by sin) and not in God revealing himself.

  • @j919or You've lost your fucking mind, OMFG. Brainwashed drone.

You seriously need to go to a mental institution. Now if you'll excuse me, I have an appointment on planet Earth.

  • This is just poor argument after poor argument.

  • During the Inquisition, Christianity forcefully made people believe in it's doctrine, or die as an alternative (often times in horrific ways).

Free-thinkers, atheists, thinking men and women had no choice back then. But now, we have a forum to voice our opinions, to fight back against Christian and religious oppression. j919or can troll all he likes, but his argument is empty, naive and based on a book written by cattle-worshipping, misinformed people.

The internet is a place of enlightenment.

  • @MrTimJr "" Christianity forcefully made people believe in it's doctrine""

This is an overgeneralization and a misstatement.

The Roman Catholic church did all this and millions of the victims were true christians. The RCC is a false church that enforced their false doctrines on the true christians via torture and murder.

So the victims werent atheists and the criminal wasnt christianity. You should be ashamed or urself. Liar.

  • @j919or You have been so incredibly misled in your life that there truly is no hope for you. Please stay out of our laws, our schools and our lives.

If you believe in the invisible man you are lying to YOURSELF. It makes you feel better to believe that there's a place for you after you die. You can't prove it, you don't KNOW it, but you believe it for comfort. Until you can prove it, anything you say is without merit.

  • @MrTimJr ""better to believe that there's a place for you after you die""

Nah I turned to God because I couldnt take the pain and frustration of life and all the hatred and greed that controled me. I tried everything to get rid of it but it just got worse. Finally it hit me.All my pain and frustration was cuz i wouldnt let God take control of my life

So I told God he could take my life and control it but he'd first have to free me from the pain.Wow! It was instant and the waves of joy

  • @j919or God is a drug to you. It makes you feel good but the feeling isn't "real". You've never met, spoken with, seen, heard or touched god. Not once. NEVER. You can lie and convince yourself that you have but you haven't.

It's sad that you aren't strong enough to live without god, but maybe it's for the best. You sound like a fucking serial killer anyway.

  • @MrTimJr Right you are restricted to the five senses. God gives believers the awareness of God in order for them to perceive God. God is non material and so since the 5 senses can only perceive the material, you cant touch or see God.

But for those that admit their evil and want to be saved from it, God gives faith and His Holy Spirit to be with them forever.

  • @MrTimJr .... and love from His Spirit, made me fall in love with God and hate my evil God playing self. God has never failed me since and turns all things around for good.

  • Atheism is evil. Religion is evil ...because people are evil.

Ask God to take control of your life and change the way u th

  • @j919or You're evil for spreading your beliefs about a man whom you've never seen. You fight and fight and fight, your whole life, for a guy in the clouds whom you don't even know exists.

Battle after battle, yelling at atheists, free-thinkers, people with intelligentce, and you can't even prove that the person you defend is in fact part of our universe.

Prove his existence or shut the hell up.

  • @MrTimJr ""Prove his existence or shut the hell up.""

I dont think God wants me to prove His existence to you. You are under delusion until the judgment. I only refute u for the sake of others.

  • @j919or According to what you believe, your god gave me intelligence, and reason, and the ability to rationalize facts and evidence. When someone tells me there's a man in the sky who made everything, the brain that your god gave me kicks in and says "what a minute...that doesn't make sense".

If I am to burn in hell, your god sent me there by making me who I am, and by writing a book that is so completely absurd that only the gullible would believe in it.

  • @MrTimJr ""man in the sky who made everything""

This is called a strawman argument. True that a man in the sky didnt make everything.

What is true is that a transcendent non-material eternal God made everything.

God made u to start off in evil. Then you had the choice to remain in it or ask Him to rescue you from it. Evil is rooted in independence. You opted for independence from God and that is what u will receive forever. God warned u that it will feel like fire but u wouldnt listen

  • @j919or "What is true is that a transcendent non-material eternal God made everything."

And this is called a circular reasoning argument.

  • @byteresistor No. Its called correcting logical fallacies. It is true that I believe that a transcendent being etc. It is not true that I believe that a man in the sky etc.

  • @j919or You haven't corrected anything. All you did was made a positive statement without any evidence backing it up. Believe it if you want but don't claim it's the truth if you can't/aren't willing to back up it up.

  • @j919or

Your a retard for believing in such fucking stupid things. You believe god created you into sin just so it can tell you either turn or burn, well if you believe that your a retard. Plain and simple.

  • @Killer0fTheSun Nah Dude. Nah.

    1. You make statments w/o evidence.

2.Life is filled with turn or burn. Your car is headed towards a wall. Turn or burn. You turn. But when it comes to hell you guys are actually deceived into choosing hell. 3Heaven is Gods glory and will which are the reasons we were created. You opt for your own will and ur own glory. That is hell.

God has done everything he can to make heaven availble to us a gift, except force u to believe it and embrace it.

  • @j919or

Stupid analogy from a very stupid person whom believes in ridiculously stupid things.Fuck you and your make believe god.

  • @Killer0fTheSun

Spoken like a true atheist! Plenty of ad homs, profanity and no evidence to support ur assertions.

  • @j919or

How about shove a crucifix up your mothers vagina. You cocksucker.

  • "aside from Josephus, which has been widely discredited""

No it hasnt. Some copies had additions that looked like embelishments and proilly were. But all copies speak of Jesus as a historical figure.

Another lying atheist is exposed and PIRONIRO puts those lies as top comments indicting himself as another atheist liar.

  • SH, the deceiver. The bible has nothing of value to SH, and most Jews, bc even the Jews of Jesus' time didnt think they needed help within themselves but only with the adversities of life like healing and food and delverance from enemies. So today SH argues that without scientific value the bible is worthless TO HIM.

They sought the Messiah from adverse circumstances and rejected the Messiah that came to save people from their greatest problem, namely, their own evil.

  • Bravo Harris, svaka ti dala!

  • Sam Harris is one of the single most intelligent people on the entire planet, and he would have absolutely ZERO chance if he ever ran for President of the USA. That says all you need to know about this country.

A psychotic, evangelical chipmanzee with 1/2 a brain who was a chronic nose-picker would get voted in over an atheist. Sad sad sad.

  • @MrTimJr SH is so wrong and u are so easily deceived. And no wonder for you both have the same father.

Case in point: "stone the woman not found to be a virgin"

    1. This command was to Israel only and to prevent adultery

    2. If she wasnt a virgin is was proof that she had adultery during the 1st year of marriage(bethrothal)

    3. SH doesnt tell you that. He is a deceiving charlatan for the purpose of revealing the evil nature of ppl like MRTIM who just cant wait to be deceived into more darkness.

  • @j919or Someone who believes in a book that starts with a talking snake is telling me that I've been deceived by an incredibly intelligent, rational and reasonable man like Sam Harris.

You are so far gone that it's not even worth debating with you. You've been brainwashed to a point that you'll never come back. I hope you find happiness one day.

  • @MrTimJr Typical atheist bailout excuse. You are a coward and no wonder for you are spawn of satan and a child of the darkness.

    1. I dont debate to convince you but to convince others what a desperately lost and loathsome worm you are. But I think that you knew that

    2. If you respond to my comments then must not care about blah blah blah as much as you set forth that u do.

    3. Run u atheist demon, ill destroy SH without your help.

  • @j919or LOL, we got a live one here. Wow, you really are insane. I choose not to debate with you because you are so massively misinformed about the world you live in that anything I say goes in one ear and out the other. You are a victim of indoctrination, probably right from birth.

You speak of Satan, a character you were TOLD existed. You've never seen him. And you challenge MY logic? My goodness man, you are living in a fictional world.

I have an appointement on planet Earth. See ya.

  • @MrTimJr Typical atheist bailout. I answer his argument thoroughly and he has no response. What does he do? He attacks my reminders to him that he is going to hell and if satan according to the bible.MrCowardJr, ignore those and answer the arguments! Or admit u cant. Or u can run and drown ur mind in alcohol.

  • @j919or You have so much hate inside you. You would have been a great Christian murderer during the Inquisition.

I already destroyed your argument, but you're too deaf to listen.

Allow me to show biblical hypocrisy, which will leave you without a leg to stand on:

Deutoronomy 21:28-21 - commands people to kill their rebellious son (stoning them to death).

The 6th Commandment: thou shalt not kill.

If that doesn't clue you in that the bible was written by man, you'll never understand.

  • @MrTimJr ""The 6th Commandment: thou shalt not kill.""

These are commands to the individual not the governing authorities.

  • @j919or Go ahead and try to shape and form the terribly written bible so that it fits in with what you believe. The fact that our own galaxy is 100,000 light years across, and that we can see the stars from other galaxies, and we can see light from objects billions of light years away is proof that the bible (and it's 6000 year old universe) are completely incorrect.

To say that the universe is 6000 years old (it's in YOUR bible) is naive, irresponsible and downright shameful.

  • @MrTimJr ""100,000 light years across""

    This is loaded with assumption.

    1. You asusme that God who created light could not have created light already touching the earth from distant galaxies

    2. You assume that the rates of light speed were always constant.

    3. There are many possibilites for the arrival of light from galaxies in a short period of time.

  • Harris made me laugh about some things. There's no wisdom in the sermon on the mount of Yahshuas teachings?? Ha it's only the hıghest, no one can honestly disagree. The bible is not a scientifıc textbook and I doubt even a work of inspiratıon, at least w/o alteration, but there ıs a lot of wisdom ın there that 'modernity' with it's science doesn't seem to care about. science also can only deal wıth the material natural, not the proto-natural (spirit, God and consciousness). thank you bless you

  • @peacewalker7 There isn't anything outside of the natural. 'Proto-natural, really? First of all, Religion or theology has no more authority than science does over God's existence at this moment, any scientist worth his weight will tell you this. Spirit & consciousness are forms of 'state of mind' and thinking which originate in the brain. It is true that science doesn't have the tools to properly test certain things, but that has been true in the past as well. Look at technology for example.....

  • @allfitch84 if spirit and consciousness only originate in the brain, then still the brain originates from matter (and energy). Therefore consciousness originates from matter (trapped light!) and energy and even what is the ultimate cause of these. Therefore consciousness was known from the beginning. I think so. maybe I can't prove it and it is somehow logical to think otherwise but I know myself and I am known by the father. one can't measure the observer but only his mere body (brain) rıght?

  • @peacewalker7 there was once no way to test the speed of sound or of light. At one time science couldn't deal with complex formulas, biological research, particle acceleration or something as simple as a sneeze. (once thought to be a sign you were possessed by the way) Just because we can't deal with or test things right now doesn't mean we won't be able to in the future. God might be real, but it's a whole new issue to suggest that any religious text is from his divine instruction.

  • Glancing at these comments I see a lot of nonsensical babbling, hate-filled speech, and empty assertion. And I'm to believe that atheists are the calm intellectual types?

  • @clebcal1 "a lot of nonsensical babbling, hate-filled speech, and empty assertion" Religion in a nutshell.

  • I suggest one of the problems is the term "God" in this whole issue; in the early part of the Bible God was the one who could not be named, how about the term "creative power" ... would we accept that there is a creative power at work in existence, in evolution and life in general ? If we can then we can take the proposition forward from that point; what is this creative power? Is it relational or neutral? Does it have intelligence ? And so on ... Discuss

  • Harris criticizes the Bible for not explaining electricity, cosmology, etc. That's like criticizing a science book for its lack or recipes. Harris' problem: "Let's see, if I were God..."

  • @clebcal1 How bout some proof ? No change that How bout any proof that your god exists and is the real one as opposed to the other 3000 gods that man has created

  • @clebcal1 You missed the point. The bible offer explanation on lots of things other than religious or morality, but fails to even mention anything that was ahead of its time, like electricity or medicine.

Casually, this book supposedly authored by an omniscient, omnipresent being contains ONLY knowledge of the specific time when it was written

  • @sth23488 The Bible centers around God's relationship with people and the person of Christ. It's not intended to be an encyclopedia. He gave us brains to figure things out like electricity and medicine. The things you want in the Bible are irrelevent when it comes to God's purpose in it. The future? Try Isaiah's prediction of the Messiah or Daniel's visions of Greece and Rome hundreds of years prior.

  • @sth23488 by ignorant human beings

  • no homo, i love this man

  • thumbed up. 334 dislike reason. ah, blissfully ignorant little children.

  • We must be confident that one day we will put to rest the religious nonsense that divides mankind. I’m sure not one of the thousands of make believe gods would mind. I highly doubt the ancient Greek gods are sitting around talking about how men just don’t buy into ancient superstitions and scientific ignorance like they used to.

2000 years from now people will look back on us and shake their heads and smile.

  • @northoforacle Sure, but they'll probably believe some insane and damaging bullshit of their own.

  • @northoforacle

Well if they are I for one would like to state publicly that Aphrodite can visit me and prove her divinity ANY TIME. ;)

  • Sam Harris is one our greatest thinkers! Religion will un-make our world if we don't keep the nuts in their cage. See "Religious fanatic debates Atheist" on my channel for clarity.

  • "Atheism equals freedom of mind and freedom of dogma".

  • You can't talk about Scripture unless you know everything that it says.

    watch?v=t0dcH9RFfX8

  • Its been fun having the religious subhumans try again and again to destroy my species but I think its time for religicide. If you think there is a space controller in the sky then we have 500 ml of barbiturates you need to drink. While your body is shutting down from this drug we need you to sit in a room with pure carbon monoxide just to make sure you expire and cant hurt Humans. Go see your fake god, take the drugs, take the gas and go see your god concept immediately

  • Sam Harris offers a false dichotomy in that one must view thew Biblical texts either figuratively of literally. The Bible clearly conveys that it is full of true history, geography, parables, allegories, wisdoms, songs and instructive letters.

Lastly, Harris correctly argues that the christian is inconsistent and ignorant of their own belief system. Which is what the Bible says.

    God bless you.

  • @maxtormaxtor Strange, not too long ago it was the inerrant word of God and woe to him who doubted one single word of it. Now it's "parables", "allegories" and "instructive letters". The only reason for that is, that science has debunked so many of the miracles, supernatural claims, and even historicity of the events and persons, that no intelligent believer can uphold the "inerrant word" bit anymore without feeling massively embarrassed.

    Scence FTW.

  • @TomFynn The Bible IS the inerrant Word of God. Which is composed of "parables", "allegories" and "instructive letters". The Bible is inerrant in that it conveys the Will and Word of God to those that seek Him and not to satisfy the skeptics quest for error. You suppose incorrectly that Gods Word must be understandable to you according to the definitions that you establish. Science hasnt debunked anything in the Bible. If so what is it?

    God bless you.

  • @maxtormaxtor Off the top of my head?

The flight from Egypt and exodus stuff. Archaeological record flatly contradicts that.

The taking from the cross. Romans wouldn’t stand for it.

Mathew and Luke cannot concur on the Virgin Birth or the genealogy of Jesus.

The word for “virgin” is almah i.e. young woman.

No eye witness sources. All one generation later.

    No census under Herod.

  • @TomFynn Not to mention a literal 6-day creation week cannot have occurred, nor a worldwide flood.

  • (3) The Geneologoies of Mattehew and Luke convey both the maternal and fraternal sides of the family tree in order to satisfy both Jewish custom and Biblical prophesy.

    (4) The word 'virgin' has multiple meanings in the Hebrew including both 'virgin' and 'young woman'. This is born out plainly when you look at the words usage throughout scripture.

    (5) Lastly, there were eye witness accounts and some were one generation later. This is hardly a 'contradiction'.

    God bless you.

    Continued;

  • @TomFynn (1) The flight from Egypt isn't contradicted but isn't substantiated. The atheist websites typically use disingenuous language that overstates their case.

(2)The person that took the Jesus from the cross was in high standing with the Roman governor in charge whose name was Pilot. Remember, Pilot had no ax to grind against Jesus as it was the Jews that compelled Pilot to crucify Jesus.

  • @maxtormaxtor 1) Not even not substantiated, competely falsified.

    2) Says the bible, eh? No one took down crucifees. That was it's point.

    3) I.e.: Made up.

    4) Ah yes those convenient many meanings.

    5) Eyewitnesses? According to the bible, written - yes - a generation later...

  • @maxtormaxtor I guess you just choose to ignore all the passages in the bible warning you not to simply take these stories as parables and allegories.

  • @evilyig

Jesus Himself says that He uses parables. He says, "listen to this parable". The Bible is the full and True Word of God to us Christians that serves Gods purpose. It is full of factual stories and parablistic stories according to it's own claims.

    God bless you.

  • @maxtormaxtor

LoL. Just about every single biblical story capable of outside substantiation has been proven to be false. The new testament for example, and the existence of Jesus. 1st century CE is perhaps one of the most documented times in history, with scores of surviving histories written by people both within and without the roman province of Palestine. Not a single one contains any mention of Jesus, nor of any of the things he supposedly did.

Christianity = Fairy Tales for adults.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog

The problem here is "proven false". No Bible story has ever been proven false. Although it can be said that you one cite other ancient texts and hold them to a much lower standard of scrutiny than the Biblical works of literature and then draw self serving conclusions from them.

Ones perception of 'proof' doesnt prove a point in itself.

Lastly, there are a number of references to Jesus that are extra Biblical.

    God bless you.

  • @maxtormaxtor

just as an example: The biblical story of the Jews as slaves in Egypt has been proven beyond a doubt to be false (This was done by the ISRAELI governement btw)

Second there is not a single contemporaneous mention of Jesus anywhere in recorded history. the first time he is mention extra-biblically is around 80-100 years after his supposed death. Go ahead look and try and find one that has not been proven to be a fake.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog It hasn't been proven that the Jews were slaves in Egypt and you extrapolate that this DISproves Egyptian slavery. The Israeli government is largely secular and thus isnt the tasty tidbit as you imply.

Lastly, there are at least 7 secular sources that refer to Jesus or to Christians. Also of note is that the Romans burned down and destroyed much of the literature that would have existed. It is also consistent to scripture that Jesus intentionally hid himself from the world.

  • @maxtormaxtor

Name me a single non-biblical, contemporaneous account of just Jesus existence. (aside from Josephus, which has been widely discredited)

Actually this happened just after the 1967 war. And there are large swaths of the Israeli parliament that are religiously based parties.

It is in no way consistent with scripture that Jesus would have hid himself. What about the sermon on the mount? What about his entrance into Jerusalem and his harangue at the temple? sorry you just fail.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog

Matthew 13 10 The disciples came to him(Jesus) and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. 13 This is why I speak to them in parables: “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

    God bless you.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog Plinty the younger

  • @xchampx

Lived from 61 AD- 112 AD. was born 61 years AFTER the supposed events, and after the christian faith was established. Therefor not a contemporaneous account. Sorry but NOONE alive at the time of Jesus supposed existence bothered to write about him. And this is in one of the best recorded periods in history, in one of the most important provinces of the roman empire, and this person supposdely spoke to THOUSANDS of people, multiple times.

    Sorry but you too FAIL.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog

meant to write 31 years after. My bad.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog "No serious historian doubts the existence of Jesus." Bart Ehrman

  • @xchampx

There you are, had problems finding ya. Drinking + youtube = AHH

Sorry but the statement of a THEOLOGIAN on the historicity of Jesus is suspect at best, even if that person now identifies himself as an agnostic (which he admits came about after years of study requiring him to admit the innumerable and irreconcilable contradictions in the bible)

The fact remains noone alive at the time of jesus wrote about him. Had ANY of the things in the bible occurred this would not be the case.

  • @maxtormaxtor

If you search for evidence to prove a premise and fail to locate any, than you can successfully say that the premise has been proven false. It may occur that in the future some new evidence will come to light causing you to reevaluate the original premise until such time it is proven false.

There is not a single extra christian reference to Jesus Christ, nor a single contemporaneous reference to his existence by any of the historians living in or after his supposed existence.

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog If one fails to prove a premise it doesn't equate to the premise being proved false. The premise may have insufficient basis though. The truth is independent of humanity's ability to prove it out.

There are several instances to Jesus Christ and to Christianity in ancient literary works. It is true though that these are easily dismissed by anyone wanting to discredit them. Of course such persons dont apply this same standard to other ancient figures in history.

    God bless U

  • @maxtormaxtor

No. I am sorry but if you search for proof of a premise, and fail to find any no matter what experiments performed, or research/physical searching done, than at that point until NEW evidence arises that premise is considered to be false.

There is in fact not a single CONTEMPORANEOUS extra christian reference to the existence of Jesus. Do you understand what that means? it means no one living AT THE TIME OF HIS SUPPOSED EXISTENCE. The earliest mentions appear 70-100 years later

  • @IamTHEDeadFrog You have changed your claim from "proven false" to "considered to be false". Which was the point of contention.

There are several authors that knew Jesus personally and wrote of Him. Yet you discount them because their works of literature made their way into the Bible. Obviously your first inclination is to discount those authors. Yet you need to apply that same threshold of proof to all other accepted ancient historical authors and figures.

    God bless you.

  • @maxtormaxtor no, we dont know that those authors knew him. Secondly, what about the dead sea scrolls? You can see there that the Bible is constructed. There are even records found that in the fourth century the Bible was composed by the powers that were. Its only based upon the Bible and only that. Thats not a real claim of being factious.

  • @maxtormaxtor

LoL. I have never changed my claim. Considered to be false due to the complete lack of supporting evidence, after looking for it + all evidence found to be in direct conflict with the claims = Proven to be false. IF new evidence arises you revisit the premise. See scientific study does not deal in absolutes.

Finally we have no idea who wrote even a single one of the gospels in the bible. AND we know that the earliest was put down at least 70 years after his supposed death. cont.

  • @maxtormaxtor

You keep repeating your claim that there are multiple authors that were contemporaneous authors of Jesus. Yet fail to name a single one. You are like a broken record.

I do apply the same threshold to other historical figures. There are a number of individuals for whom I have doubts as to their existence. Socrates being one of them. The major difference of course being that Socrates didn't claim to be a God, and demand worship and obedience.

  • When did Seth Green become so concerned with religion?

  • @owheelj Doing humanity damage? Like abortion? Obamacare? Really? Get your facts straight. Religion is the reason humanity is still alive.

  • @UCBitter It really isn't, medical science is by far the reason humanity is still alive and at the very least living past the age of 40.

Religion is one of the leading causes of death through out history and perverts intelligence in modern society.

  • @UCBitter lol, yeah I'm sure socialized healthcare would be the end of humanity as we know it... dumbass

  • As an atheist I grow a little tired of people like Harris. They speak as if they are informing us of some grand revelation, when really they're putting too much thought into an otherwise thoughtless belief system: atheism. Atheism doesn't make you some enlightened guru. While, in my opinion it's true as I could define the word true, I gained no knowledge by becoming atheist, merely discarded some I found untenable.

  • Either the universe was created "as a thought from the mind of god".. or, the universe "stands alone in it's own right regardless of an human explanation". difference is, one assertion is big and messy, the other is simple and open-ended.

    Vote with your life.

  • Sam Harris is one our greatest thinkers.

  • @Sweence

"... that which may be known of GOD is manifest in them; for GOD has showed it to them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, eve His eternal power and Deity; so that they are without excuse, because that when they knew GOD they did not glorify him ... but became vain in their thinking and their foolish heart was darkened; professing to be wise, they became fools." Harris is foolish.

  • @Str8Talker365 More bible babble. Clearly, YOU are the fool.

  • @Str8Talker365

... ok, however, one of us is right and one of us is wrong. Either God "is" or God "is not". I can see from the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world that He made everything. His eteral power and Deity are evidenced by the things that are made. DNA all by itself is like a sophisticated language. Random happening? Not on your life.

  • It is true that human knowledge increased but fundamental questions are still unmoved: where we come from? What is the purpose Of our life? What will happen to us when we die?

If you take your life honestly it is, as for me, not important how our bodies are buildt, but what will happen with me when I wii depart from my life. Is any life beyond the grave? If we are to live for ever, as religions tell us, then we should be more concerned Of reaching happy eternity than to be so preacupied what t

  • more wisdom?? more knowledge is more wisdom? what an unwise man...

  • I'm an atheist as well, but I have grown tired of mocking the religious as an end in itself. Religion, while not true, must have been evolutionarily useful in the past or it wouldn't be so ubiquitous. This is the strange paradox. Religion must have given survival and reproduction advantages to those that had it in the past - on every continent and every culture known to Man. It must have had value. The question is, how do we build a successful culture without it? Why do attempts fail?

  • @Jasonlittlex Dan Dennett has a lot of talks on this line of reasoning with his book "Breaking the Spell"

It comes down to the memetic perspective, these ideas replicate themselves from passing from mind to mind. Every culture in human history has also had the common cold but we don't ask ourselves what use the cold was to it's host. It's purpose is for making more colds!

  • @Roenazarrek That meme idea is fascinating, but I don't see how it can account for the totally universal presence of religion. As far as I know, every people on earth going back 30,000 years, has had a religion. The Americas, Europe, Asia, South Pacific Islands ... separated by oceans yet all infected by the same meme? Surely there would have been some group that split off and didn't catch the meme. I suspect there is something adaptive about religious beliefs, even if they are false

  • @Jasonlittlex It's not the same meme silly!

Each religion is a different meme, it's not all one meme: Religion. Furthermore there are massive differences between each religion, every bit as massive as the difference in viruses. We have many viruses infecting us at any given time, they just happen to be pretty harmless in general, others like say, Polio are obviously more harmful. Religions undoubtably emerge many times separately.

  • @Jasonlittlex Perhaps your point is though what makes us so prone to produce them? This tendency had to be evolved to suit us? Maybe so, but the tendency does not have to be so grande as to produce whole religions, the tendency through wich these memes emerge could be something much more subtle like a tendency to find meaningful patters in random or nonrandom noise (Shermer discusses this in depth), the point is once an idea starts replicating the qualities it takes on are good for itself

  • @Roenazarrek That overclocked pattern seeking ability we have could be part of it and I see how memes could take advantage of it. But something about it still seems strained. It just seems to me that at some point in the last 30,000 years some group would have split off somewhere and started a society without any religion. There have been tens of billions of people - they were all just infected by a version of the religion meme? I think there must have been something adaptive about religion.

  • @Roenazarrek I've got to wonder if religion didn't help with group cohesion. Darwin talked about how a group with higher devotion to the tribe might out-compete one with low group loyalty. In other words, while religion was not true, it was useful. I'm noticing a rather all-or-nothing view among a lot of the "New Atheists" which state that there can't ever have been any value in religion. This seems more of an ideological stance then a scientific one.

  • @Jasonlittlex Yea thats actually a point Dennet makes, theorizing that it is quite likely that it helped with sortof mass decision making. Also along these lines may be our apparent innate tendency to accept any explanation over no explanation, a conspiracy theory over no theory. Maybe if we had a good understanding of epistomology we would have been paralysed by doubt back in the conquering days.. Perhaps you can understand the knee-jerk response of the new atheists as the utility of religion

  • @Jasonlittlex tends to be the most common objection to the fight against dogma. benefit, slight or otherwise in ancient evolutionary history clearly does not apply to the modern world and yet the assertion comes across often as an attempt to disarm or passify well founded criticisms.

  • It looks like he's smiling but when I look I can't see exactly where I get that impression

  • SallyWilton you did not make your children, you even have no idea how they were made in your womb. Yours was only intimate act with your husband, which is also itself so mysterious. Two invisible for us living cells create a human being who is infinitely more wonderful than the entire universe with all galaxies. No wonder we are called children of God. Only God was able to accomplish such incredible beings as ourselves. He loves us so much that He himself became a human being and was born of th

  • SallyWilton! Even billions, billions years is too short to make such mysterious beings as ourselves.

The universe is too small And eternity is too short. What is impossible - is imposible. Whatever we do without planning is done wrongly. Very rarely a mere chance makes something correct . Complexity of life requirers almost infinite chain of correct and meaningful happenings, what is impossible! Do not be naive! The great Design is the only answer.

By the way It is not contradiction to believ

  • @franciszek8D Oh my another big thinker about to explode! OOOO I am so mysterious. MMM I didnt plan my second child turned out wonderful, but I guess you would be so shameful to argue that! Chaos is what makes it all work in the end mans plans go very often wrong so often I cant even began to list them. The great design is the only answer for those who do not search for a intelliget answer!!

  • @franciszek8D Billions, billions years is too short to make such mysterious beings as ourselves.

Perhaps you can describe the theory of evolution by natural selection AND abiogenesis in substantial detail, seeing as how you know so much about them as to know for a fact that they do not represent a plausible explanation?

  • @franciszek8D you have fallen into line with the typical religious mind.

"I don't understand it, therefore it is not understandable, Therefore it must be god." Head in sand!

Human knowledge over the last 100yrs has increased more than in the whole of previous human history.

The Bible is just the superstitious ramblings of iron age peasents, with a world knowledge less than a modern day 10 yr old child, desperately trying to understand their scary surroundings.

  • Sallywilton! Look at the mirror! Do you think that such mysterious beings as ourselves with such rich, intellectual and emotional life may be the effect of a blind chance? Without any previous design? Life, any life is a mystery. Today scientists have so advanced tools and intellectual experience and nevertheless they are not able to make any one single living cell. And our bodies have billions of cells acting together. How the blind universe was able to accomplish what smart scientists are not

  • @franciszek8D Yes chance and survival does come into it. Of course you cannot make a living cell it took millions or billions of years to develop. You are stating that a god "magiced" living cells by some sort of spell. Which is the most ridiculous idea? Yours or accepted and proven scientific fact?

  • Sallywilton! Jesus came to save us and show us the road to eternal salvation, heaven. This is His message. Our time on earth is short indeed in comparison to eternity. How the world and our own bodies are buildup God left it to us, people and scientists to discover. It was not Jesus task to help and teach us about the world but how to live honestly in order to gain eternal life. Scientific knowledge will not help you as to salvation. Only good, honest, forgiving unselfish life will guarantee y

  • Hmmm... Religions having to adjust to science? Nope, still the same Torah, Bible, and Quaran.

  • The same Bible that knew the Earth hangs upon nothing and says to not worship the sun because it's only a star.

  • The objection i have with this video is the end when Sam talks about the bible not having things about DNA, and electricity etc. I'm really not surprised by this because the Bible is not meant to give truth about the physical world, the purpose of the bible is to give people a way to understand and grow closer to God, how would knowing electricity and the 4 base pairs of DNA or that light moves at a speed of 3.0 x 10^8m/s in a vacuum, give an idea of who God is and how to grow closer to him?

  • @BloodSweatTiers Come off it and don't be daft. Closer to god? There is no god so you will just be talking to yourself.

  • @sallywilton You can make a statement, that's awesome! But calling me daft, saying I'm talking to my self and that there is no God, doesn't give a reason to believe or not believe in a god. I was just responding to why the Bible doesn't have scientific information. It's like saying Shakespeare is useless because he never talks about gravity or that The Decent of Man us pointless because it doesn't talk about this history of Rome.

  • @BloodSweatTiers Well Shakespeare is useless just as is the history of Rome as far as the future is concerned. other usless meeaningless writeings such as the bible are also of no importance!!

  • @berrywoke If you have that attitude then we should probably kill everyone who can't work since they just use of valuable resources, and get rid of paper books because now we can just have a digital copy and not use any more paper, and musicians should stop writing music imagine if all the musicians started working instead of playing music! If you think Shakespeare and history are useless then i truly feel sorry for you and i don't know if i can do much to change your mind.

  • @BloodSweatTiers Boy you sure read a lot into what I wrote!!Or are you just talking to hear your lips smack? Shakespeare and the romans dont matter in the future that is what I said History remains history nothing more. as far as the rest of the bla bla bla you wrote maybe you have me mixed up with a diffrent thread?? So save your feeling sorry for someone who needs it.

  • @berrywoke Ok then ill rephrase If you look at things as the only use is what can benefit the future then older people are useless and the fact that we give them money and food to live is a waist because we could use that time and money to do something that would progress society further than keeping people who cant work alive & your idea of history is wrong, in the words of Orwell "He would controls the past controls the future" & you still haven't argued against what i originally said.

  • @BloodSweatTiers Your whole discussin up till now is weird?? Why are old people useless maybe for you they are but good thing for them you have no say in the matter. Who gives a shit what Orwell said? I sure dont and besides that its not even true! Dont bother me anymore with your stupid philasophy ok Just make a clen cut here we really dont have anything to discuss..

  • @iamsam578

Uh, that isn't an argument. Harris presents an argument. You need to state clearly why you would refute it. Otherwise, all you accomplish is making yourself look silly, like sticking your tongue out at someone in a schoolyard.

  • Thank you mr Harris. In the coming centuries, your work will be considered on equal terms with the work of Bertrand Russell and Aristotle

  • Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennet, Richard Dawkins. These men are real representations of Human kind. The dangerous, failed, fallen, farcical, untrustworthy, selfish, arrogant, ridiculous, murdering, genital mutilating, blood cult warmongering, scared, subhuman religious piffle is the anchor to the advancement of my species. Shame on religious subhumans for continuing to consume food and air and delivering evil for the effort. Go smoke a tailpipe and take a trip to your god concept

  • @699backstab

I found your comment interesting ... you speak about murder in a pejorative manner, yet wish the murder of those who hold a different view point than you ... another example of the some of the hateful attitudes that many atheists engender toward others ... and which is why the life of Jesus Christ stands out as the best example of how to treat others than any other person ever ever written about and is a stark contrast to hateful people and religions..

  • @Str8Talker365 hey man..go fuck yourself :) and die from cancer ahahaha. I mean it asspirate. The faithful are subhuman and need to be euthanized not murdered. Is it murder to put down a dog who has been run over and crushed? So its not murder to dirt nap this living shit called the religious. They dont even know what the fuck is going on around them They think there is an invisible sky controller ahahahaLets turn them to oil and run our SUV's with subhuman petroleum :)

  • @699backstab

Your obsessions and hatred and causing you to sound borderline insane.

  • @Str8Talker365 The ramblings of 699backstab are simply the ramblings of someone tired of hearing shit from people like yourself. It has been said COUNTLESS times that DNA was NOT random. There is a difference between random and low probability. Probability is "how much a certain event is possible and can occur". But DNA is certainly not random.

If you looked around you and said "YEP, there is a God", then you simply didn't take the time to use tools and check the stuff you are looking at.

  • @tankusfred

While the genders were evolving, please explain how species reproduced? While birds were evolving wings to fly, how did they survive, and what did they look like? Why is the sun exactly the right distance from the earth to sustain life? Is spontaneous origin of genetic information possible? (NO!)

No one has shown how life itself could arise from non-living chemicals. Non-living matter just coming to life somehow? Now that's a fairy tale.

  • @Str8Talker365 You stop yourself at scientific problems simply because we still don't have an answer to it. It doesn't mean the evolution process didn't occur, 15 years ago we didn't know how to explain flowers, now we know it evolved from a modified leaf. And the birds has already been explained, go read on it. It's modified scales from dinosaurs.

And for origin of life with non-living chemicals, do a google search for "life created in lab". reply 1/2

  • @Str8Talker365 So... First, stop believing in books dating around 1800 years ago written by Romans to control it's population. Second, stop asking useless questions about "Why science doesn't answer *insert whatever biased subject here*?" Answer : We're not there yet, it WILL come! Third, start looking for science papers, because you are currently asking questions that have been answered during the last 10 years. (Except the gender issue which has several thesis and ongoing projects)

  • @tankusfred

You stated, "... stop believing in books dating around 1800 years ago..."

Why should I do that, when the nature of the scriptures are unique in that they were written spanning centuries by over 40 authors yet read as ONE MIND, not to mention the over 250 Messianic prophecies that were fulfilled with 100%by the man, Jesus of Nazareth?

Again, please explain how life arose from non-life? And if you cannot, then quit denigrating the obvious. Thanks.

  • @Str8Talker365 Okay, you better read BOTH replies I made on your previous comment. I have only half my arguments there.

  • @tankusfred

Yes, I read both of your posts.

    What makes DNA NOT random?

    Thanks.

  • @Str8Talker365 Okay, so I've found ANOTHER answer by looking around for the "DNA not being random" and I acutally found an answer to your "why/how does sex exist?" which I had totally forgot but did see back in those years... Here's the link to the main video, he's himself referring to many other videos he did previously to explain in details sexual reproduction origins.

    /watch?v=1w0FiwfyUMM

I'll be back with another reply when I find the DNA videos.

  • @Str8Talker365 After going through numerous videos I had already watched, I decided it would be simpler to find another one... I simply typed "evolution explained" on youtube, and clicked on the very first link... And there you have it, a perfectly good video explainning how evolution is NOT random.

    Enjoy the show /watch?v=vss1VKN2rf8

  • @tankusfred

Bottom line ... NON God believers are FORCED to concoct all kinds of explanations for how we all got here. Some only SEEM plausible because those who do not believe GOD MUST choose some OTHER explanation and bank on it and promote it and preach about it ... which is basically what Dawkins, Harris, and others spend their lives doing, while all the time they have REJECTED the truth of the True and Living GOD, Who created all things. Psalms 33:6, 9

  • @Str8Talker365 Faithful or not, scientist are NOT concocting explanations... if fact, when a scientist makes a discovery, it is JUST that : a discovery. They were not trying to invent an explanation, and most of the time they were looking for something else. A lot of research in one field gives answers for another field and vice-versa nowadays.

Science explains the KNOWN while at the same time having enough decency and self-modesty to be able to say "I don't know&
