This guy is your classic Beck listening ignorant Redneck It' sad that people in the country can be this ignorant and can't back up anything they say . If minimum wage tracked GDP and productivity the minimum wage would now be something like $17 /hour.

Interesting, I thought that only in third world countries we had people who are so ignorant and stupid and supported starving it's own people. Well, who knew, these disgusting pricks who fuck their own sisters and mothers live here too. Rednecks have to go.
By the way, how is the economy, thanks to reagonomics. Conservatism is fucking the country, and that's why you lost the White House, Congress and House. Fuck you.
You're a joke you are. Your first phrase, overlaid over your lovely, beautifully adorned face. Ha ha ha. Give us a break! Your language alone proves your class. You should hope to have in your whole body the amount of dignity and wisdom in Kennedy's little toe. Reply all you want, call me any of the names in your extensive vocabulary... I won't respond further!
Minimum wage should be tied to inflation to be fair. That way it can't be raised too fast nor too slowly over the years. If the cost of everything increases (food, utilities, etc.) then so should the cost of labor. If the minimum wage today was 2 bucks, WalMart would be paying 2 bucks today. And there would still be people deserate enough to take it. When the minimum wage is too low, there comes a threshhold where that low wage becomes abuse and legal theft.
It should be tied to inflation for a "free market", which America isn't; The US is a "Managed Economy" with the government controlling the profits of corporations and the banks manipulating inflation rates.
There's also the issue of 50 different economies for 50 different States.
We have States (California) which can handle this raise and actually pay much more than the Federal Minimum. While other States (Kansas) that can not handle the raise and actually pay much less than the minimum.
Before the last time California raised min. wage, CA conservatives claimed that it would hurt the CA economy. It didn't. When the federal wage was raised TO $5.15 in the nineties, conservatives also said the same thing you are now. Actually, the opposite is true. Local economies thrive when workers on average get paid more. Businesses end up doing more business in the long run. In the south in the 1800s pro slavery people used to say that ending slavery would ruin the southern economy.
$5.15 was raised over a period of (some) 20 months, it didn't effect businesses right away. You have to look at the long road - everything that was handled in the 1990's didn't rear itself until 2000 came around.
The choices of NAFTA & WTO, the changes in Social Security & the Medicare system, Minimum wages increases on States that couldn't handle it ... it's slapping us in the face right now.
I think the speaker of this video is just jealous of people on the minimum wage because he cant get a damn job, terrible rant by an un-educated mumbler.
I agree man. These assholes on Capitol Hill need to be straightened out. Ideas for fixing the Congress, 1. Term Limits, 2. Pay Decrease, 3. Ban Lobbyism and make it a felony.
Congress decides their own pay increases ! What the hell kind of job let's you pay yourself ? Yeah, let us decide our Senators' paycheck.
And Lobbyists ... I think making it into a TREASONABLE OFFENSE would be alot better, because our Congressmen & Senators also recieve money from foreign nationals to influence votes.
Just to stay grounded and fair here; Congress has way to much authority over themselves ... I'm just saying where the hell are the checks & balances to end that corruption ?
Hey, this guy has it figured out. Increasing the minimum wage hurts business and local economies. Let's REDUCE the minimum wage so business can prosper. In fact, let's reduce it to zero so we can have an economic explosion with no unemployment!
This is about returning power to each State, allowing them to mandate wages themselves, because we've given too much authority over to the Federal Government.
Each State already has their own limits & raises, most of them are already higher than the average.
What Kennedy proposed sounded great to the American people, but he knew that Bill would never pass because localized economies are seperated by extremes.
California could easily handle an increase because they're already paying a higher minimum wage, but Kansas couldn't, because they're currently the only State paying below the average.
Kennedy knows all of this - he was just grandstanding.
I dont care how many times you use the word "fuck", YOUR RIGHT about Ted.He wants the min wage to go up to the level where the goverment can withhold more tax money. After thats taken out, they are back to where they started. The only thing I disagree with you is what you said about Republicans. We are much better with them in charge.
I'm sure small businesses will love an increase in the minimum wage. Democrats care about small businesses? ha. Very true about what's going on in the Gulf states, or what could happen.
... but poverty went up too, because it doesn't help the poor. The Republicans & Democrats know this, but it sounds like a great idea - so they use these tricks to rally support. God knows what's being added in to that bill ?
Here's part of the issue Carl ... you want people to tell you who to vote for. Currently there is only one person that has pointed out the extremism in politics and corruption of our Senators & Representatives and that's Barack Obama.
No Joe, I don't want people to tell me who to vote for. But I also don't want people to tell me who NOT to vote for. I don't want you telling me who not to vote for. Your "dynasties" comment particularly comes to mind. With all due respect, you have to watch what you say. You say, fuck all these Dems and Reps but then use Obama as an example of someone who is pointing out the extremism in politics.
So, Obama could very well run on the Libertarian ticket. I stand by what I said, people understood me - extremism is rampant in our political system ... both sides have disolved any common ground between them.
Obama's Dem who doesn't fit in the generalization you put forth, and I agree with you him, but be careful on generalizing.
I have to disagree with you on the issue of minimum wage. Louisiana and Mississisppi and Alabama are still reeling from Katrina, but don't you think that those working minimum wage jobs in tha area can only benefit from an increase?
No. Because I know who the minimum wage benefits, so do politicians. It's been this way since the 1930's when it was assumed it would help ease the Great Depression. It didn't help the poor at all as it doesn't help anyone on the poverty level, because everyone in poverty is either not working, a single mother, or working and going to school. The only ones working minimum wage jobs are kids in the 18-21 year range that need extra cash.
The local McDonald's isn't going to shut down because of a $2 increase over 2 years. And Kennedy wasn't ranting on whether or not to have an increase, he was trying to get at the point of WHY in the world would the Republican Party insist on delaying something like this? If most states have a higher min. wage than what is proposed, then why not pass this bill? Why ask for all these amendments on this bill? It's a stalling tactic and he'd had enough.
You've come in late. I've responded to all of this before so just look through the comments and find them. They won't pass the bill because they all know this is "grandstanding". They won't pass the bill because there's a better way to help the poor than forcing companies to pay higher wages in the middle of a terrible economy.
When considering the short term affects of a minimum wage increase, this is true. In a short period of time it will increase the cost of producing services and products, and thus causing more unemployment.
However, when you look at the issue in the long run, increasing the base income increases demand, causing more jobs to become available as more and more corporations join the market. This again produces more jobs, further increases the income level in the area and again starts to give a positive effect on the market.
You are right about it if you consider short term. This quarter. But looking, say 10 years into the future, those states cannot afoard not to increase the minimum wage. The problem is, these issues are reviewed mostly in the short term. Quick tactical descisions, instead of creating a long term strategy, that is supported by short term tactics.
Kennedy argued this is an struggle for poverty ... that arguement is as old as the minimum wage law is, and the reality that Roosevelt missed during The Great Depression is what Kennedy is playing on:
"The working poor are not the driving force behind the minimum wage laws" ... never have been ... so, THINK; Who is this really for ?
Speaking of states, I'm tired of seeing the money from states that actually pay into the federal government go to support the ones that don't. If we cut them off, we wouldn't have to hear ignorant rants from idiots like this, because he wouldn't have the electricity to use the internet, and would have to go back to having sex with farm animals to keep warm.
You want to cut funds to places like Louisiana because your State is better off and shouldn't have to be bothered - and it would shut-up people who stand up to politicians that have over 4 decades of power, wealth & influence in this government. You're a fool.
I can use the Institute's epionline(DOT)com website to show you what's wrong with a minimum wage increase and why it does nothing for the poor. So obviously you haven't researched anything.
You need proof ? Pick up a history book and read the origins beginning with the 1938 Law and about the effects the minimum wage had on ... gee I don't know ... The Great Depression!
It was a fvcking failure because just like today our working poor struggling to eke out a living were not the driving force behind a minimum wage requirement!
you say it would be a bad idea to raise the minimum wages because of the economy of cities like flint. bull fucking shit. you raise the wage. raise it to the roof. drive the rich bastards that own the corporations into ruins. you need to put your aggression where it's most needed. point it at big business, not the hardworking backbone of america. fuck wal-mart for ruining local economies. don't fuck the common man and tell him he can't his due. you stupid motherfucker.
The AFL-CIO is attacking Wal-Mart for the sameDAMNthing every other comany in America does - except for the fact that Wal-Mart is a huge corporation that does not have a union. Goddamn Kroger's pays less than Wal-Mart and has worse benefits, but they get left alone because they're unionized.
are you fucking kidding me?? i've worked at both krogers AND wal-mart, and the difference is HUGE. wal-mart, on the dollar, pays women $.27 less than men. they consistenly keep workers under 40 hours so's not to pay benefits. they also DO NOT PAY OVERTIME AND GET AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE THE FINES ARE LESS THAN THE OVERTIME MONEY. you are fucking moron. your views are totally baseless. unless you've actually had experience with these things, then shut your fucking mouth.
So go vote in John Edwards he's just the most expensive puppet the AFL-CIO has. He'll run Wal-Mart out of your town and fix everything. Yeah! Never mind the other giant conglomerates that destroy small businesses ... it's all Wal-Mart's fault. LMAO
wal-mart has set the standard for modern corporations. if they go down, they all go down. and fuck john edwards. i've seen him speak, and he's as slimey as they come.
Wal-Mart is not the standard for modern corporation LOL it was built from the ground up with support & financing from its employees and the communities Wal_Mart first established itself in.
I bring up John Edwards because he's the spokesman behind all of this sh!t right now ... you're spewing the same crap that he is and I'm telling you this is lobbyist propaganda.
The US has the highest poverty rate for children of any industrialized nation in the world. Britain raised their minimum wage and got 1 million children out of poverty. Ireland went to the equivalent of 9.75/hour and cut child poverty by 40%. The %age of high school kids of rich families would be small, I would think, since many kids of rich families don't work anyway. You think a hike would hurt more poor than it would help? I like the idea of the earned income tax credit. I'll check it out.
Britain just introduced a minimum wage like 8 years ago and raised it for the first time 2 years ago; Also Britain set their wage limits by "age groups" and their "minimum" targets 18 to 21 year olds.
Britain has one of the highest rates of child poverty among industrialised countries. Between the 1980's & 1990's child poverty increased in Britain more than in any other country ... Check with Save The Children organization or the Child Poverty Action Group for a better understanding.
High school kids of well-to-do families is anyone above the poverty line. Most people working minimum wage jobs are teenagers from middle class America.
Look at the demographics for people in poverty: SSI, SSDI, WELFARE AND SINGLE MOTHERS going to school and working part-time jobs to make ends meet. None of them would be effected by a minimum wage increase BUT THEY WOULD through better government assistance AND an "earned income tax credit" for the ones that are working.
The reality of the situation, sir, is that the economy IS bad (as you say). You're blind if you think a minimum wage increase has nothing to do with a bad economy. If the top 2% of people in the country have the most money, that means 98% of the people can't afford to buy much. Personal insults are an empty argument. If we "should vote out everyone", then YOU run. DO something about it instead of sitting on your behind (probably as long as you claim Ted Kennedy has) and go make a difference!
The best approach is an "earned income tax credit". It delivers benefits directly to the working poor and not all low wage workers so the EITC wouldn't have to provide government aid to (say) high school kids of well-to-do families. Ted Kennedy is playing a game and you're the sucker.
here in MN, you can work at a gas station for no less than $8, but if you work at a small locally owned business, its minimum wage. i think thats a good thing, because it helps support the small business owners. i also like that EITC thing. "goddamnit quit falling for this stupid f*ckin bullshit" lol.
that is... if you don't have to support yourself solely on the minimum wage salary. because its impossible. its good for the owners to sustain and build the business, but as the employee, i couldn't make ends meet making $5.25/hr. i'm lucky i had relatives to pitch in for rent until i got a 2nd job. i dont think anyone should have to try to live off minimum wage an i'm glad the "living wage" is higher.
Lowest to who ? We have 28 States with a "living wage" HIGHER than the Federal government's. 16 States that are using the same as the Federal minimum. We have 5 States with no minimum wage & ONE State (Kansas) with a lower minimum wage limit than the pre-set.
The best approach is an "earned income tax credit". It delivers benefits directly to the working poor and not all low wage workers so the EITC wouldn't have to provide government aid to (say) high school kids of well-to-do families.
When I watch myself get all mad, it just makes me laugh. The stuff I say, like, "getting chicks, getting drunk and partying" that was so stupid that it made me laugh. Now I think I should redo the video before anyone sees it LOL.

Like I said, "Politicians know this sh!t!"
But they use tactics, like the game Kennedy played to sway voters instead of solving real issues!
It's been this way for decades and I want to stop it!

BIndeed 5 years ago
that is... if you don't have to support yourself solely on the minimum wage salary. because its impossible. its good for the owners to sustain and build the business, but as the employee, i couldn't make ends meet making $5.25/hr. i'm lucky i had relatives to pitch in for rent until i got a 2nd job. i dont think anyone should have to try to live off minimum wage an i'm glad the "living wage" is higher.
BIndeed 5 years ago
Well, I'm against there even being a minimum wage, but the fact is that minimum wage is the lowest it's ever been when you adjust for inflation.
TheAmazingAtheist 5 years ago
Lowest to who ? We have 28 States with a "living wage" HIGHER than the Federal government's. 16 States that are using the same as the Federal minimum. We have 5 States with no minimum wage & ONE State (Kansas) with a lower minimum wage limit than the pre-set.
The best approach is an "earned income tax credit". It delivers benefits directly to the working poor and not all low wage workers so the EITC wouldn't have to provide government aid to (say) high school kids of well-to-do families.
