use pressure plates for "automatic doors" just put 2 of them one on each sides of a door and that will make the door open when ever u get in front of it and closing it self this works fine with steel doors and wooden doors, they can be crafted out of wood or clean cobblestone and they are 3 on a horizontal line

@MurderCorn yes it will but if have a bunch of doors inside your house/cave this is best thing to do, also for the exit door of your house/cave u only use the pressure plate inside and is best if u use a wooden door since to open it from outside u only need to hit the door or use a button if u wish, but still pressure plates is best shit for doors!
