  • Excellent! I remember this song from when I was around 10 years old!! Thank for the memories!!--Lee

  • Wonderful. It took me way way back in time. Thank you so much!

  • Love it! The 1961 cover version by Jimmy Dean isn't hard to take, either.

  • ill go huntin with jake

  • In 1948-49 this was playing over and over out in the living room when I was a young boy. My sisters and I were looking out the bedroom window down into the driveway where my Dad and our next door neighbor "Web" were fighting two men they'd been playing poker with. My dad rammed one guy's head into the grill of his new pickup while Web was getting his butt kicked. The two guys finally left and my Dad and Web came back in crowing about how they'd whipped them boys good. Over cheating...

  • My dad had this record when I was a kid, which horrified my mother. She hated it. Years later my sister found a 45 version of this at a yard sale and sent it to me. alas, it was lost too. Now I'm happy to have it here.

  • thanks for loading this my daddy used to sing this to me, i always wanted to hear it as it was recorded...thanks so much, GB

  • Amazing...I have never heard of this guy Stuart Hamblen and I thought I was someone who knew of all the great singers...

  • Hi zaaritha ... Homer and Jethro recorded this .... That would be the Great Homer Hayes and Kenneth ( Jethro ) Burns ....

  • A wonderful fun song. Thank God that Stuart wrote this before he 'got the Lord'.

  • My Grandpa sings this song everyday, he doesn't know what it's called or where he heard except a farm hand.

    P.F.C Charles Roy Hilbert.

    Combat wounded Veteran

    Saipan and Okinawa.

  • Does anyone out there have Stuart's "Sheep skin corn and a wrinkle on a horn, we'll

chase ole rock when the weather gets warm". Now that's one my Dad sang. Also in

the early 30's he did "You got the right key mama but you put it in the wrong keyhole".

How about someone putting those two up.

  • Once Stuart became a Christian, he no longer wanted this music out there...he repented of having done such. He took a strong stand for the Lord! Halllejuah! His life was truly transformed!

  • This is the other side of Big Bad John by Jimmy Dean. Stuart wouldn't let them put his name on the label since he didn't think this song was proper anymore. Interesting story. Good song.

  • very nice song,great humour,

  • Anyone know of the year this song hit the airways? Carl Stuart Hamblem was born on 10/20/1908in Kellyville, Texas. Singer/songwriter/actor. Acted in several western movies. Died on 3/8/89(age 80).

  • Words and music by Stuart Hamblen

I Won't Go Huntin' With You, Jake -

    recorded 8/49; released 10/3/49

  • Thanks 56Rickster! That song is on my list of ALLTIME TOP FUNNY SONGS.

  • My dad taught me this song when I was 4 or 5. To my mom's horror, I sang it to my kindergarden class on show and tell day. I can't wait to do the same to my boys!

  • @jdlempi I can relate with that. My sister got up in front of church at the request of her Sunday school teacher to sing a song. She sang All around the water tank by jimmy rogers.

  • Dad used to sing this too --bless his heart

  • fun song, thanks

  • I listen to 91.9 every sunday night at 8 the country gentleman. Every second sunday he plays old time country and I am sure I have heard stuart before but I havent heard or seen his name for years. We cant forget about him he was great!! THANKS!!!

  • I was so excited when I came across this song! My daddy's name was Jake and my uncle used to sing this to tease daddy with! This sure brought back a lot of good memories. Thanks!!

  • i have a copy by another artist.

  • Great!

    Who else has recorded this?

  • I only know of it by Stuart, & Jimmy Dean also had a hit with it in the early 60's.

  • My Dad always sang this after a coupe of drinks! Thanks for posting!

  • Sometime after he wrote this song, he had a conversion to Christianity. Partly because of that, and partly because of an incident that occurred when he and a friend were hunting, He wrote and recorded (as did many others) "This Old House".

While hunting with his friend, a blizzard hit, and they looked for shelter. His friend pointed out a cabin not far ahead. Stuart said "there's a dead man there. There's no smoke from the chimney, and a dog is on the porch. He wrote the song on a cerealbox

  • I've been looking for this song by Stuart for a long, long time! This is absolutely terrific! Please post more Hamblen tunes!

  • Ha ha. I havent heard this for ever. Reminds me of my son, lol. We call him the great white hunter but his game is usually 2 legged. Thanks enjoyed this.

  • Great one. I remember from a long time ago. Thanks.

  • Heck, you beat me to the song but I did not have it by Stuart.
