The expectation of having a blast crater under the LM is flawed. The DC-X was a test flight program of a vertical takeoff and landing rocket. On one of its last flights, it made an emergency landing outside of the pad area. Despite the hydrogen/oxygen engine producing a thrust of some 60,000 pounds (about 20 times the thrust of the LM descent engine!), the engine produced a mark on the desert floor that was barely recognizable.
@J801506 Australia wasn't even supposed to have been the downlink site. But when Neil and Buzz decided to come out before sleeping (i.e. early) Australia suddenly was in the hot seat. The Goldstone tapes exist, it's just that some bright person in Oz realised that the Oz tape was better. It was the Oz tape that was lost. The machines to play these tapes are so rare now that even had they found it, they would have to strip away the data to get to the TV signal, IF they had a machine.
@Apogeebooks Well when you land is a small airplane... as the ground is coming up the last 2000 feet or so, objects on the ground get progressively bigger very quickly.
If you look at the Moon Landing and listen to their calling off the decent rate and watch out the window at the same time you will see that the talked about descent speed does NOT match the visual

Absolutely none of the same features you see in the LM window stay there long enough to be able to distinguish how far away they are or how big. That's why some SMART people figured out the pilots would need a radar altimeter for landing. They figured that out in 1951. The film is free if you want to go get it from NASA, just not synched to the sound. I did that, and I don't work for free. Do you?
@J801506 Considering I was the person who broke the story about this to the world press, I think I know what I'm talking about. The original US master was long ago wiped. They reused the tape. However, the controllers who worked in Australia knew that the downlink to OZ was better quality, because someone took polaroid pictures of the monitor that night and it was clearly better. When they went looking for those tapes they couldn't find them either.
@J801506 The whole thing is on this DVD. The original master video tape from Houston was wiped a long time ago. Someone realised that there used to be a BETTER version that was recorded in Australia, because they hosted the downlink. This copy could not be found. There are still plenty of low generation videos, just not the 1st gen.

@jalusbrian Because the audio was recorded on the ground. When the signal reached the Earth, the mission controller responded as soon as he heard it. I synchronised the audio with the onboard recorder so that there was no echo.

The guy on the ground heard it simultaneously and answered immediately. I removed the delay to be able to synchronize the onboard sound with the sound recorded on the ground so that it made sense and was stereo.

This version is beautiful. I get SO annoyed as I'm watching footage of the landing where the engine-safing procedures (between the "Contact light" call and announcing "4-13 is in") are omitted. Without hearing ALL the communications, the stripped-down, edited versions over-simplify everything, making the voyage seem like a trip to the grocery store. The blocks of black and white were there to monitor any axial roll rotation of the Saturn 5 while filming the ascent. Even lacking telemetry, an unplanned (or planned) roll would be evident and measurable by just how much (the ratio) of the black or white was seen. If all one color, rotation would be almost impossible to determine visually as the rocket got farther away.
The coloration scheme actually goes back to the Peenemunde days of von Braun. Check Wiki"V-2 rocket" page for such an image.
Actually I believe that Hubble is capable of showing the descent stages but it would require some kind of "downgrade" because the moon is too bright. I believe that they have to make sure Hubble doesn't point at the moon for fear of burning out sensitive optics. I may be wrong but I seem to remember reading this somwhere.
Actually, I have seen hubble pictures of the moon. It just doesnt have the resolution. The smallest things Hubble has taken a picture of are hundreds of miles across, and most are light years across. The decent stages wouldn't make up 1 pixel.
I spoke to the Chief Hubble controller and apparently they HAVE taken pictures of the moon but only in wide-view infra-red. The problem is not resolution it is tracking speed. The moon is moving too fast for a close-up with Hubble. It can't move fast enough to keep pin-pointed on the moon long enough to take a high-rez image with enough detail to show the Apollo landers.

Escape velocity for the moon is only about 6,600 mph, which is why they could leave the moon's surface in the small ascent stage of the LM, and return to earth in a spacecraft as small as the command module (which was left in lunar orbit).

yea, i know its edited. It was a rethorical question. U see, i believe that what we are looking at is a model and a fake moon landing! So its a convinient place to edit it, cause if u start paying to close attention to the craters as the module descends, then u see there is a disproportionate relation with the altitude and their size. Try and look at all the landing films and u'll notice it!
What i mean is, the craters themselves dont change that much in size although the altitude changes enormously! Look for it and u will start to notice it. And then look at the big models of the moon nasa was doing tests on and it all begins to make sense.

watch all lunar landing films as the lander aproaches the surface. Look at the craters and get a sense of the altitude as the lander descends. U will notice a very odd thing. The craters barely change in size although the voice talks u through several thousands of feet of descend! Its not real my friend - they are filming a big model on a film set...no more no less!!
I see. Well, I have SEEN the film (not video) I have also seen the telemetry from both England and the onboard flight recorder, and there are no inconsistencies. I have also compared the film to the orbital photography and it fits perfectly.

They ran two concurrent lunar landing programs that kept taking money from each other. Then when they finally got things sorted their giant lunar rocket blew up four times during launch, so they gave up. They did fly two unmanned versions around the moon in 1968-69.

It's conceivable that one of the tens of thousands of employees might've said that. But the tooling doesn't exist anymore. You need the tools to do the job and most of the tooling has been scrapped. e.g. The first stage of the Saturn V was so big it required a lathe capable of machining a 33 foot diameter cylinder. The only machine in America that could do that was an old World War I battleship gun turret lathe. That tool no longer exists.

It must take an amazing amount of thrust just to beat earth's gravity! How did the Apollo 11 mission manage to power itself towards the moon did they rely on gravity? It seems that most of that massive rocket was discarded several hundred miles above the earth! Is there just less gravity in space so no further need for thrust such as to leave the launch site?
7.5 million pounds of thrust, ditching massive chunks of the rocket into the ocean on the way up. Once it was up to 18,000 mph it is like a bullet that falls back to earth at the same speed the earth rotates away underneath. It is in free fall, or orbit. Gravity is still there but not felt, like falling off a bridge but the Earth curves away before you hit the ground.

It was very powerful but once the spacecraft is up to "escape velocity" (7 miles per second) there is nothing to slow it down other than the rapidly decreasing gravity of Earth. No air friction. At that speed it would never return to Earth because it is simply moving too fast.

I have only one main doubt on why moon landing couldnot be fake. Any experts who claim it real please clarify it. In all moon landing videos they show one US flag flying horizontally (like in earth). We all know that in moon there is no air. So naturally a flag cannot fly on moon, it should have its flag ponting towards down due to moon's gravity. How they shooted a waiving flag in moon, Can anybody clarify this?
The flag was mounted on a coiled spring. When Aldrin and Armstrong deployed it the flag was held horizontally by the spring arm. Hoaxsters claim that it "waves" on its own. The only time it "waves" is when someone is twisting the pole.

NASA have lost the original master reels of the television broadcast of the moon walk received in Australia, NOT the 16mm film of the landing. Nor have they lost the copy of the moonwalk that was transmitted from Australia to Houston. There very definitely is a DVD available of this at apogeebooks website.

They say we got telescopes that could see a candle on the moon (I know a candle will not burn on the moon) . So why can't we get someone to focus one on the landing sites, I would think we could see the bottom half of the lander at least maybe the rover and some tire tracks. or at least the sun light reflecting off them or best yet a foot print. Have CNN, fox news or someone at the telescopes that could show the world. and then we can put this to rest.

@Apogeebooks Well when you land is a small airplane... as the ground is coming up the last 2000 feet or so, objects on the ground get progressively bigger very quickly.
If you look at the Moon Landing and listen to their calling off the decent rate and watch out the window at the same time you will see that the talked about descent speed does NOT match the visual
So... smells fake to me LOL
Besides if it WAS original NASA footage its in public domain and should be FREE :P

@standauffish Armstrong was moving at 58' /sec sideways. Absolutely none of the same features you see in the LM window stay there long enough to be able to distinguish how far away they are or how big. That's why some SMART people figured out the pilots would need a radar altimeter for landing. They figured that out in 1951. The film is free if you want to go get it from NASA, just not synched to the sound. I did that, and I don't work for free. Do you?

@J801506 Considering I was the person who broke the story about this to the world press, I think I know what I'm talking about. The original US master was long ago wiped. They reused the tape. However, the controllers who worked in Australia knew that the downlink to OZ was better quality, because someone took polaroid pictures of the monitor that night and it was clearly better. When they went looking for those tapes they couldn't find them either.

@J801506 The whole thing is on this DVD. The original master video tape from Houston was wiped a long time ago. Someone realised that there used to be a BETTER version that was recorded in Australia, because they hosted the downlink. This copy could not be found. There are still plenty of low generation videos, just not the 1st gen.

@jalusbrian Because the audio was recorded on the ground. When the signal reached the Earth, the mission controller responded as soon as he heard it. I synchronised the audio with the onboard recorder so that there was no echo.

@jalusbrian Because the recording was made on the ground! The signal leaves the moon. Arrives on the ground a quarter of a second later and was recorded. The guy on the ground heard it simultaneously and answered immediately. I removed the delay to be able to synchronize the onboard sound with the sound recorded on the ground so that it made sense and was stereo.

This version is beautiful. I get SO annoyed as I'm watching footage of the landing where the engine-safing procedures (between the "Contact light" call and announcing "4-13 is in") are omitted. Without hearing ALL the communications, the stripped-down, edited versions over-simplify everything, making the voyage seem like a trip to the grocery store. The film being slowed down is easily debunked. Note the arm movement. The blocks of black and white were there to monitor any axial roll rotation of the Saturn 5 while filming the ascent. Even lacking telemetry, an unplanned (or planned) roll would be evident and measurable by just how much (the ratio) of the black or white was seen. If all one color, rotation would be almost impossible to determine visually as the rocket got farther away.
The coloration scheme actually goes back to the Peenemunde days of von Braun. Check Wiki"V-2 rocket" page for such an image.

Actually I believe that Hubble is capable of showing the descent stages but it would require some kind of "downgrade" because the moon is too bright. I believe that they have to make sure Hubble doesn't point at the moon for fear of burning out sensitive optics. I may be wrong but I seem to remember reading this somwhere.

Actually, I have seen hubble pictures of the moon. It just doesnt have the resolution. The smallest things Hubble has taken a picture of are hundreds of miles across, and most are light years across. The decent stages wouldn't make up 1 pixel.

I spoke to the Chief Hubble controller and apparently they HAVE taken pictures of the moon but only in wide-view infra-red. The problem is not resolution it is tracking speed. The moon is moving too fast for a close-up with Hubble. It can't move fast enough to keep pin-pointed on the moon long enough to take a high-rez image with enough detail to show the Apollo landers.

The spacecraft was being pulled on at all times by the Earth, and its velocity decreased from the 25,000 mph escape velocity to about 2,000 mph before the increasing gravitational attraction of the moon caused the spacecraft to accelerate once more.
Escape velocity for the moon is only about 6,600 mph, which is why they could leave the moon's surface in the small ascent stage of the LM, and return to earth in a spacecraft as small as the command module (which was left in lunar orbit).

There was a closed circuit TV camera in mission control which was sent out to networks, and also a 16mm handheld camera. You can see the 16mm crew filming on the TV feed. One segment of Charlie Duke shows him saying "Its the same type, we're go" during the landing. (responding to the 1202/1201 alarm)

So its a convinient place to edit it, cause if u start paying to close attention to the craters as the module descends, then u see there is a disproportionate relation with the altitude and their size. Try and look at all the landing films and u'll notice it!

watch all lunar landing films as the lander aproaches the surface. Look at the craters and get a sense of the altitude as the lander descends. U will notice a very odd thing. The craters barely change in size although the voice talks u through several thousands of feet of descend! Its not real my friend - they are filming a big model on a film set...no more no less!!

They ran two concurrent lunar landing programs that kept taking money from each other. Then when they finally got things sorted their giant lunar rocket blew up four times during launch, so they gave up. They did fly two unmanned versions around the moon in 1968-69.

Science was never my strong point, but i blame bad teachers....
I've been watching a docu on here that dis-proves the conspiracy theories, its very interesting.....
Its great to debate these kind of things...truth and fiction....
can you recomend any good books on the apollo missions? id love to find out more...

is it true NASA have said that now it would now take 23 years to plan then send a man back too the moon, even though they've already been there? am i right in saying they took 8 years to plan and get a man too the moon in the 60's? with only 32k of computer memory?

It's conceivable that one of the tens of thousands of employees might've said that. But the tooling doesn't exist anymore. You need the tools to do the job and most of the tooling has been scrapped. e.g. The first stage of the Saturn V was so big it required a lathe capable of machining a 33 foot diameter cylinder. The only machine in America that could do that was an old World War I battleship gun turret lathe. That tool no longer exists.

Without sounding too much like I'm plugging our stuff. We have a book called Virtual LM which shows every component of the LM in 3D models. It has a CDROM of LM stuff included. We have another book called Lunar Module News reference which includes a DVD of silent footage of the LM being assembled.They're both on the Apogee books website.

It must take an amazing amount of thrust just to beat earth's gravity! How did the Apollo 11 mission manage to power itself towards the moon did they rely on gravity? It seems that most of that massive rocket was discarded several hundred miles above the earth! Is there just less gravity in space so no further need for thrust such as to leave the launch site?

7.5 million pounds of thrust, ditching massive chunks of the rocket into the ocean on the way up. Once it was up to 18,000 mph it is like a bullet that falls back to earth at the same speed the earth rotates away underneath. It is in free fall, or orbit. Gravity is still there but not felt, like falling off a bridge but the Earth curves away before you hit the ground.

It was very powerful but once the spacecraft is up to "escape velocity" (7 miles per second) there is nothing to slow it down other than the rapidly decreasing gravity of Earth. No air friction. At that speed it would never return to Earth because it is simply moving too fast.

BTW. I have absolutely no intention of stating that the Apollo astronauts didn't land on the moon. Since I've met all of them and know all of them personally. I have studied tens of thousands of documents and every single photo and am familiar with every single moment of footage shot during those missions. I think I am qualified to comment on this intelligently. So why don't you share your qualifications with us all and present your argument? Instead of demanding that I abide by your directive.

The same one who actually said,"If some of the film was spoiled, it's remotely possible they (NASA) may have shot some scenes in a studio environment to avoid embarrassment." I have only one main doubt on why moon landing couldnot be fake. Any experts who claim it real please clarify it. In all moon landing videos they show one US flag flying horizontally (like in earth). We all know that in moon there is no air. So naturally a flag cannot fly on moon, it should have its flag ponting towards down due to moon's gravity. How they shooted a waiving flag in moon, Can anybody clarify this?

The flag was mounted on a coiled spring. When Aldrin and Armstrong deployed it the flag was held horizontally by the spring arm. Hoaxsters claim that it "waves" on its own. The only time it "waves" is when someone is twisting the pole.

NASA have lost the original master reels of the television broadcast of the moon walk received in Australia, NOT the 16mm film of the landing. Nor have they lost the copy of the moonwalk that was transmitted from Australia to Houston. There very definitely is a DVD available of this at apogeebooks website.

They say we got telescopes that could see a candle on the moon (I know a candle will not burn on the moon) . So why can't we get someone to focus one on the landing sites, I would think we could see the bottom half of the lander at least maybe the rover and some tire tracks. or at least the sun light reflecting off them or best yet a foot print. Have CNN, fox news or someone at the telescopes that could show the world. and then we can put this to rest.
