Thank you. That is so nice of you to inform us all about truvia. I just bought a package yesterday, I wasn't "Really"" sure about using it constantly, but after seeing your video, I feel much more comfortable eating it. It's just a little too good to be true that we are able to taste sweet, without gaining weight, or causing problems to our bodies. I wonder how popular Truvia will get....
there is a company that has stevia mixed with FOS (fructoolgliosaccharides) which I would probably prefer over a sugar alcohol..although erythritol is one of the better ones
I want to say that Truvia is amazing. I do not like the taste of it straight (yuck!) but in baking it is fantastic. I made a cheesecake with splenda and it had an awful after taste. With Truvia it taste just like regular cheesecake. I am so exited about it.
I bought some of this over the weekend. I noticed it says 3grams of carbohydrate which i assume is the sugar alcohol. So if i am thinking right, unlike splenda, you do not have to add 1 gram of carb per packet that you use, right?
When you were in NYC, you should've asked them why they had to go and test Truvia on innocent laboratory animals? Last time I checked, stevia and erythritol were the safest sweeteners out on the market.
I Love u two, thanks for all the low carb info! I tried Stevia but left a bitter after taste to me *yuk* :-) so am willing to give this a try....I like that it is natural.
Hey Jimmy I love your blog and I was excited to find your YouTube channel!!! I am new to lowcarbing and hoping to lose weight and get healthy with this lifestyle!! :)
I am been devoted to Zevia for a few months now. I love the Twist. I don't get why they changed the name but I guess the name Truvia is good too. I tried the iced tea by chance at Rockefeller Center event and it was great! I kinda miss the carbonation though.
First off thank you and your wife sooooooo much. i am going to make it this time. cravings totally went away, i don't obsess about food and for the first time in my life, i have to remind myself to eat. weight watchers was an expensive nightmare as i ran to the store to get low-fat sugary products that only encouraged my hunger. i feel great a lost another 1.5 lbs since yesterday. all i need are your videos! you all are like youtube life coaches, luv you, luv you. thanx
It's supposed to be in stores everywhere in a few months. It will probably be sold as a sweetener. I think it'll do VERY well. Where in SC do you live. :)
Spiky Haired Girl yields the floor...really cool you went to Cargill's conference!
So do we still don't know definitevely if it will bear the title "supplement" or "sweetener." Pretty riduculous that a plant used for centuries couldn't get GRAS status, IMHO. A company had to isolate and patent part of the plant first, it seems. That being said, I can't wait to have some!!!
One more question -- it is one thing to sweeten lemonade, but another to be able to cook with it. Did they demonstrate any cooking recipes or foods with it -- like cheesecake, cookies, etc.? Splenda does ok in cooking recipes, but there is obviously a difference between it and real sugar in cooking.
I was disappointed that they didn't do that at this event, but I did ask about that. They said it works well under heat unlike aspartame much in the same way Splenda does. So it's perfect for baking. I don't know how it will do, although I did make a cheesecake today with it and it turned out amazing! :)
That's the true calling for one of their marketing geniuses -- get a low carb person like Splenda did with Jennifer at Sweety. Just have them go through every recipe like America's Test Kitchen and build a recipe cookbook. Or how about a Trevia cooking channel on Youtube? I hate to give away all my ideas to Cargill, but that is one way to drive interest to your product -- create Youtube buzz like P90x does.
So which is better in your opinion -- Coke with Truvia or Coke with Splenda? Have they planned to release a non-erythritol sweetened liquid form of the sweetener, such as Sweetz-free for Splenda? The bulking agents don't bother me since I bought liquid version of Splenda.
To be honest, I don't know yet, Kent. Coca-Cola was not at this particular event, so I haven't tasted what they've come up with yet. I also don't know how much erythritol they will be using in the soda product. Each packet of Truvia has 3g erythritol. At this time, there are no plans for a liquid version, but I'll be sure to let them know that's what we'd like WITHOUT the erythritol. :) Wish you could have been there, buddy.
It would have been fun. There is such a cause for real sugar free living in this world. I can appreciate the non-maltodextrin as well -- you don't want to know how much I hate crystal light bulks their stuff with that. Let's hope it takes off and pushes the aspartame and malitol options further to the back.
I would kill for a good widely-available, non-aspartame diet root beer soda. Dad's Diet RB is great, but I can't get it where I live.
I have tasted stevia and it's terribly bitter and to me very nasty tasting. I threw the whole box away. Erythritol is great and I do like that. You say this is not bitter that is interesting.
This is NOTHING like the stevia you have had in the past. This is actually the rebiana part of the stevia leaf which is the sweetest part. NO BITTERNESS at all...Scout's honor! :)
BTW: how are they selling it online as a sweetener when the FDA hasn't approved stevia as a sweetener yet... did something cool happen when I wasn't looking!
OMG OMG OMG! I'm sooo excited! I just can't hide it! WooHooo! I can't wait till I can get a nastytamless and splendaless soda! Did the erythitol get ride of the bitterness or was it in their processing? I'm hoping the come out with a liquid form that's less bitter too *crosses fingers* Thanks for the video
YEPPERS! Coca-Cola is working with Cargill to get this rebiana-based Truvia in diet sodas, too. This is the highest quality of stevia there is and there's ZERO bitterness at all. A liquid form would be cool, but I don't think it will be out initially.
Splenda packets are loaded with maltodextrin, a bulking agent that actually adds SUGAR back to the carb counts. That's why you have to count the carbs in Splenda packets as 1g a piece. Truvia has 3g carbs, but it's all erythritol which I subtract as part of my net carbs. This product has a cool sensation on the tongue, but it's more like sugar than Splenda is. I like it and there's NO bitterness at all with Truvia.
Thank you. That is so nice of you to inform us all about truvia. That's exactly right! NO MALTODEXTRIN (corn starch) in Truvia.

Oh man if Cargill is involved it might as well be called poison!

Have you tried the product yet or are you simply dismissing it by association?

Splenda packets are loaded with maltodextrin, a bulking agent that actually adds SUGAR back to the carb counts. That's why you have to count the carbs in Splenda packets as 1g a piece. Truvia has 3g carbs, but it's all erythritol which I subtract as part of my net carbs. This product has a cool sensation on the tongue, but it's more like sugar than Splenda is.
