@HellsingGirl1 I don't know i haven't read that far into the manga, its possible that something else is going on there, either way the new generation of claymores could be very different from the likes of Teresa and Irene who are of the older generations, how hold exactly we don't know either (unless they started putting dates in) but claymores stop ageing after they become a claymore, so Teresa could easily have been over a hundred years old when she died.

@merksperk2 Hm I don' t think that Irene could do what clare did. when Clare awakened her legs, the legs were completely transformed(like aw.beings) but with irene's hand that transforming didn't happen. i thing irene can release and target her yoki towards her arm so that the arm reaches the speed that it would if it was awakened but it doesn't actually awakens like clare's legs. Clare can do that because she is able to keep her human consciousness better tha others cause she's 1/4 yoma only.

I agree. Irene manhandled Ophelia with little effort. Since Ophelia (#4) is stronger than Rafaela (#5), I would imagine that Irene is stronger than Rafaela too, since she basically would have been #1 if not for Teresa and Priscilla, the two most powerful characters in the series.
Without her arms, Irene may or may not have been killed by Rafaela. She could have survived, and I think this is the case.
Rafaela was the previously the #2 Claymore, second only to her sister Luciela. Rafaela, during Clare's time, was demoted to #5. Ophelia, however, quickly rose to #4. As a result, the Claymores' rank proceeds as follows:

Raffaella is Luisella's sister , a hold 1st rank claymore, and manga says that raffaella was just a little weaker because she's more yung than luisella, so i don't think a number 2 like Irene with 1 arm could beat Raffaella ^^
Considering that Priscilla and Teresa were the ONLY ones with a higher rank than Irene at the time, Irene may have had a chance to escape from Rafaela. If Irene had both arms, it would have been an even battle.
Teresa and Priscilla are stronger than Rafaela. Irene is the 3rd strongest in the list. She is faster than Rafaela. She beats Rafaela.
Remember when Clare sliced Rafaela to pieces using the Quicksword? At that time, Clare's speed was only 25% of Irene's. Irene, with both arms, definitely outclasses Rafaela.
I'm talking about overall skill here. Rafaela would beat an Irene without arms (no shit, how can a Claymore without arms fight?). But, with her arms, Irene would easily defeat Rafaela.

Still, Irene would definitely beat Rafaela. Remember when Clare fought and defeated her? If Clare defeated her, Irene certainly can too, given that her Quick Sword is actually twice as fast as Clare's.
@merksperk2 clare have defeated Rafaela before, so i can see your logic; Irene can beat her as well, but you have to remember that Irene does not have both of her arms anymore, she cannot weild a sword, all i can think of how irene survived is that Irene used her Yoki to run and escape very fast on her legs by sending Yoki down there.
I'm actually hoping that that's the case. Although, with the recent events in the manga, it's hard to find a fitting place in the plot for Irene (currently).

@PsiAbstract Irene wanted Clare to leave and continue forward without worrying about her. She wanted Clare to feel less guilty about taking her right arm. At least, that's what I believe for now. Until her status is resolutely confirmed (or the manga ends, whichever comes first), I consider her dead for all intents and purposes. It would be awesome if she came back, but this is Claymore - anybody can die, even if they're cool.

1) In this anime, everyone who's dead... is shown very explicitly DEAD. You see them getting hacked into little bits.

Wow I did not even consider that...I feel so idiotic. That is a very sound theory and somehow I really hope it becomes true.
On another note, I am curious of as to what will Clare's reaction be and if she will truly return the arm - as irrelevant to the plot as that sounds since Clare REALLY needs that arm. I am simply concerned since ARMLESS IRENE sounds less threatening than QUICK SWORD IRENE.
@Narkxia I'm curious too. Honestly, I think when all is said and done, she will try to. Hunting and killing Priscilla is her whole goal in life, to avenge Teresa. Once that's done, she won't have any use for Irene's arm. And honestly, I think the gesture of Irene giving up her arm was very meaningful to Clare, as was the subtext of some of the things that Irene said. On some level, Irene cared deeply for Teresa, and that would definitely garner a lot of respect from Clare.
@DevilChildVorn some of you might go "Wtf makes you say that?" but there IS some proof. :p In the anime, the ONLY time you see Irene smile is when Clare is attaching her arm (on top of the fact that she cared enough to cut off her own arm...) and in the manga she said "Live, Clare. You're the only proof that Teresa ever existed." Irene is protecting Clare the only way she can, since Teresa is no longer able to. Irene's not heartless, just aloof... kind of like LoTR elves, actually XD
Well just like most of the claymores in the orgy's (organization's) employ, they're made to be aloof in order to keep their dirty little secret well a secret. I even told my siblings who also watch Claymore that Irene does care about Teresa and Clare. I cannot word it out and I ran out of english (it's not my first language) trying to type it her but short version: I totally agree with what you said. Irene's smile as well as the title of that episode is very symbolic.
@merksperk2 yea, not to mention that after the butchery that Miria went through and survived, the idea that ol' Elf Ears lived isn't so crazy. Also the fact that they are reviving the previous number ones....
@Pyrfalcon Well, Miria wasn't really hit that bad, after she *spoilers* 'got attacked', they made it look like she was killed beyond question, to save her from the 'onlookers'. They hid her behind their bodies, and then making hundreds of tiny flesh wounds, not hitting vital spots. Like the dialogue, "if you had killed even one of us you may have died" and why they're on her side her . But yeah, Irene may have done that, but she wasn't exactly in a fighting mood- hope she was though... =)
Lol elfs? The transfusion from the yomas make your skins paler and your hair also turns lighter kinda like albinism, some become blond others are like Irene, somehow the transformation is more acentuated and the hears are part of the process since the transformation hits them harder their bodies change as well.
This is probably my favorite claymore character theme song yet. I fucking love irene. She's one of my favorite claymores. My number one fav is probably clare though.

Clare felt in Irene's arm that something happened. I doubt Rafaela would have shown mercy to Irene, but I guess it is possible. Clare will be able to know for sure when she finds time to sort through Rafaela's memories. If Irene died, it will probably show it in Rafaela's memories.
Technically we don't know if she was killed-- everyone else who died we saw them die in grisly detail, so there is plausibility deniability of this particular death.... it's a bit odd that we didn't see it happen.
I'd say somethin about the new manga chapter but don't want to post spoilers.
sadly Irene did die at the hands of Rafaela. Rafaela said she was coming for her head even though she had no arms. Later in that episode she said something about killing Irene.
But does that really mean that she is dead and that she did die by the hands of Rafaela? No it does not. There is in face a possibility that she is dead but there is also a possibility that Irene is in face alive.

In the manga you learn that Irene can regenerate her arm but its going to take about a month and it wont have the power that her other arm possessed. You learn that she can regenerate but the arm is going to be about the strength of a humans arm.

I have a theory that she's still alive. Remember her talk with Clare that she has extreme control of her yoki, which allows her to perform Quicksword? So, she may have awakened during her encounter with Rafaela, escaped, but retained her control over herself.
Just a thought.

The manga is ongoing, although there's no confirmation on Irene's status yet.
You should read the manga. There's like 70+ chapters in the manga which aren't in the anime.
The last 2 episodes in the anime aren't canon, in case you didn't know.

Raffaella is Luisella's sister , a hold 1st rank claymore, and manga says that raffaella was just a little weaker because she's more yung than luisella, so i don't think a number 2 like Irene with 1 arm could beat Raffaella ^^

Considering that Priscilla and Teresa were the ONLY ones with a higher rank than Irene at the time, Irene may have had a chance to escape from Rafaela. If Irene had both arms, it would have been an even battle.

Teresa and Priscilla are stronger than Rafaela. Irene is the 3rd strongest in the list. She is faster than Rafaela. She beats Rafaela.
Remember when Clare sliced Rafaela to pieces using the Quicksword? At that time, Clare's speed was only 25% of Irene's. Irene, with both arms, definitely outclasses Rafaela.

Still, Irene would definitely beat Rafaela. Remember when Clare fought and defeated her? If Clare defeated her, Irene certainly can too, given that her Quick Sword is actually twice as fast as Clare's.

@merksperk2 clare have defeated Rafaela before, so i can see your logic; Irene can beat her as well, but you have to remember that Irene does not have both of her arms anymore, she cannot weild a sword, all i can think of how irene survived is that Irene used her Yoki to run and escape very fast on her legs by sending Yoki down there.

@PsiAbstract Irene wanted Clare to leave and continue forward without worrying about her. She wanted Clare to feel less guilty about taking her right arm. At least, that's what I believe for now. Until her status is resolutely confirmed (or the manga ends, whichever comes first), I consider her dead for all intents and purposes. It would be awesome if she came back, but this is Claymore - anybody can die, even if they're cool.

1) In this anime, everyone who's dead... is shown very explicitly DEAD. You see them getting hacked into little bits.
2) actually piggy backs onto what you said... Irene's arm pulsed on clare...which usually only happens when a character is awakening their yoki aura. I think you hit the nail on the head.

Wow I did not even consider that...I feel so idiotic. That is a very sound theory and somehow I really hope it becomes true.
On another note, I am curious of as to what will Clare's reaction be and if she will truly return the arm - as irrelevant to the plot as that sounds since Clare REALLY needs that arm. I am simply concerned since ARMLESS IRENE sounds less threatening than QUICK SWORD IRENE.

@Narkxia I'm curious too. Honestly, I think when all is said and done, she will try to. Hunting and killing Priscilla is her whole goal in life, to avenge Teresa. Once that's done, she won't have any use for Irene's arm. And honestly, I think the gesture of Irene giving up her arm was very meaningful to Clare, as was the subtext of some of the things that Irene said. On some level, Irene cared deeply for Teresa, and that would definitely garner a lot of respect from Clare.

@DevilChildVorn some of you might go "Wtf makes you say that?" but there IS some proof. :p In the anime, the ONLY time you see Irene smile is when Clare is attaching her arm (on top of the fact that she cared enough to cut off her own arm...) and in the manga she said "Live, Clare. You're the only proof that Teresa ever existed." Irene is protecting Clare the only way she can, since Teresa is no longer able to. Irene's not heartless, just aloof... kind of like LoTR elves, actually XD

Well just like most of the claymores in the orgy's (organization's) employ, they're made to be aloof in order to keep their dirty little secret well a secret. I even told my siblings who also watch Claymore that Irene does care about Teresa and Clare. I cannot word it out and I ran out of english (it's not my first language) trying to type it her but short version: I totally agree with what you said. Irene's smile as well as the title of that episode is very symbolic.

@Pyrfalcon Well, Miria wasn't really hit that bad, after she *spoilers* 'got attacked', they made it look like she was killed beyond question, to save her from the 'onlookers'. They hid her behind their bodies, and then making hundreds of tiny flesh wounds, not hitting vital spots. Like the dialogue, "if you had killed even one of us you may have died" and why they're on her side her . But yeah, Irene may have done that, but she wasn't exactly in a fighting mood- hope she was though... =)

The transfusion from the yomas make your skins paler and your hair also turns lighter kinda like albinism, some become blond others are like Irene, somehow the transformation is more acentuated and the hears are part of the process since the transformation hits them harder their bodies change as well.

Clare felt in Irene's arm that something happened. I doubt Rafaela would have shown mercy to Irene, but I guess it is possible. Clare will be able to know for sure when she finds time to sort through Rafaela's memories. If Irene died, it will probably show it in Rafaela's memories.

Technically we don't know if she was killed-- everyone else who died we saw them die in grisly detail, so there is plausibility deniability of this particular death.... it's a bit odd that we didn't see it happen.

sadly Irene did die at the hands of Rafaela. Rafaela said she was coming for her head even though she had no arms. Later in that episode she said something about killing Irene.

But does that really mean that she is dead and that she did die by the hands of Rafaela? No it does not. There is in face a possibility that she is dead but there is also a possibility that Irene is in face alive.

In the manga you learn that Irene can regenerate her arm but its going to take about a month and it wont have the power that her other arm possessed. You learn that she can regenerate but the arm is going to be about the strength of a humans arm.
