definately not man made, if a prehistoric man was to have made that he most likely would have made it more purportionate being that it would take a great deal of effort to make such an artifact. The "eyes" are completly different in size, I would say its nature made
In order to meet pre-requisite to qualify as a stone tool a piece must reflect four or more percussion blows indicative of systematic pecking or flaking. Four was derived as the magic number that should be unachievable by natural events. I don't know how that would a apply to a multi holed paint pot that looks like a face.
Honestly, I disagree that it's an artifact. Take it to a specialist to have it authenticated (not just having a ranger look at it and give an opinion, actual documentation), but I'd say it's a geofact.
that is good info. I have a couple of the tiny "dolls' that were created under/for the same circumstances. I knew they were worked but didn't have a clue...thought they might be game pieces haha. Just triangular bottom with rounded top, per the folks that do more than dabble in this field the tradition of presenting a carved doll at birth goes way back to paleo.
Man, that is sweet!!!! You can see the "human influence" or "precussion" marking in the eyes, it is a no brainer, nice human head effigy! Thanks for sharing that with all of us, dont get to see artifacts of that magnitude very often.
Good find,Mastodon State Park? It could be the find comes from the time of the Mammoth Hunters. You'll find that artifacts from this era fall through the cracks when presented to archeologists due to the "great wall of Clovis". The size and face on your artifact are consistent with pieces identified as "Border Stones", marking some territorial boundary. Google "daysknob" or "Figure Stones" to see finds like yours. I think paleo-era folks are suppressed for land development and religious reasons.
