I respectfully disagree. It was THE most anticipated camera in 2007/8, But now that it's finished 3 years behind schedule and has a fixed lens and a CMOS chip like a DSLR - no way can it compare to the AF100 series.
I'm afraid with the Scarlet you're back to the vertical skewing, rolling shutter issues with camera flashes, ceiling fans, brick walls, etc that remind one of the DSLR's. Combine that with the fact that the AF101 shoots with pro-grade audio and can fit SLR lenses...
@josephrawlins Their is some Scarlet footage on Vimeo of it panning, no rolling shutter, but honestly I could never imagine RED putting out a camera for high end pro work and movie usage to have those problems you listed. Their whole bragging rights are the fact that those things aren't an issue with their cameras. And it looks like shipping will start shortly after april/may time frame.
The BBC wont accept this camera at 24mb/sec and 4:2:0 so watch yourself if you are looking to sell to the BBC. They can be bas*ards and their site says there will be no exceptions. The cheapest camera that is approved by the BBC is the Canon 305 but I dont like it.
@tywilliams100 I looked at he Canon, 305 but was disappointed at the fixed lense, and tiny imaging sensors, to me its a HD news cam. Yes the codec on the AF101 is limited to 24Mbits, but wait for the hacks, in overcranking it jumps to 35 Mbits per sec. previous Pana cameras have been hacked
Also just go external storage if flogging to the BBC, full HD SDI out to a nanoflash or ATMOS ninja... sorted..
The bit rate is unimportant - lowbitrate internal recording is useful for reviewing rushes, the HDSDI out can be recorded on whatever you like, be it direct capture to uncompressed HD via a blackmagic card or 280 Mbps MPEG2 via the ultraportable nanoflash or indeed direct to prores on the ki pro with identical timecode to the internal low bit rate native files.
24 mb/sec is VERY depressing. Why did they waste their time making something that produces such low quality images!! ?? Don't buy this. Stay well away!!
Only needs a follow focus or simple focus puller and then its is perfect. Like the new Sony prosumer version the VG10 zooming is done only on the ring; no rocker...
im hard @ hearing, did he say a lot of bricks? cause thats what it looks like ....a brick!

@MrVultcher Yup, it's now on the BBC acquisition list if you use external storage at 50 Mbits/sec.

I like it,but I'd like to see a version or model that can shoot directly to P2 at 10 bit
intra 100.Other Panasonic cameras should all be full raster sensors.Panasonic is nearly there.

$12,000 my guess.? Still way out of my budget. lol. With all those features it's not going to be sold under 6 grand.

It's got a rubbish data rate that will hold it back from broadcast though, unless you use the brick like AVCintra add on.
