  • They invited a virtuoso guitarist to take the stage with them. What did you think he was going to do, Play chords?

  • i wear big boy pants and all i can say is i'd like to see you do a better job.

  • Lol its funny how Nils doesn't give a damn if music is going on while he is setting up his guitar just the way he wants it to sound!

  • sorry geezer, watched it again and still think it's fretboard overload. Michael is caught a couple of times with a hand to his head with a look of WTF resignation on his face. Peter appears to try and end the song 16 bars earlier but Nils just carries on. Maybe one day when you start wearing big boy pants you'll realise that having an opinion that differs from yours doesn't necessarily make someone an idiot/dufus

  • @malzawag Michael will often put his hand over his head like that during the solo part of this song..watch some other performances...doesn't mean you're not right, but that's not an indication whether or not Michael likes what's going on.

  • @malzawag he`s doing so...thats michael and his stage apperence.have you not seen micheal before at stage..? peter are looking at nils and looking pleased...you know, there is a reason they invited nils to play with them, dont you think..?

  • Michael Stipe has never heard so many notes coming from a guitar on his stage!

  • Nils is a marvellous player and his solo work and stuff with Neil Young, Stringbean etc is testament to that but absolutely the last thing this glorious song needs is fretboard wanking, I don't care who it is.

  • @malzawag you guys are friggin idiot's!! next you'll say somethin about Hendrix playin Dylan song's.... that shit is bad ass!! listen to it another 2000 times if need be.....good lord...dufus...that shit is good son!!

  • Still it would more relevant to the song (but does he care about that? Has he heard it before?) if he shoved his guitar up his ass. It would impress me much more anyway. Fucking pros.

  • @mantra3000 fuckin pro's?nice....genius, you are a genius!!

  • ..check out his 1976 album.."Cry tough". I think his best.

  • didiroesler, Peter and certainly the audience seem to love Nils effort. Better show with him than without him, obviously. Try to get up to speed on guitarists. Hee Hee.

  • Oh I WAS THERE !! It was amazing, this does not do it justice but many thanks for the posting !!a

  • what a guitarist.. That's all i can really say right now.

  • While in H.S. in Northern Virginia, I wore a button with Nils's picture on it on my jean jacket (around 1973). I was a big Grin fan and supported the l"ocal boy". My other musical hero about the same time was a relatively unknown guy named Bruce Springsteen. Imagine my happiness when the two of them got together about 10 years later. Thanks for the many memories of driving in the car listening to the 8 tracks and those sweet high school nights, boys!!

  • kneel down in front of the best guitarist ever to hit a stage. didiroesler: You got no idea of real greatness!

  • Lol....They can only wish they could play like Nils!

  • i can't help, but all of his guitar-wanking doesn't bring anything special to that wonderful song...

  • I have just checked out what you have uploaded. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA BLOODY HA!

  • @didiroesler I think the band would disagree

  • the faces of Mike and Peter tell averything about how good is Nils. They are mesmerized.

  • Anybody here know Nils pre Bruce Springsteen? Lotsa solo albums and before that Grin. He has always rocked, as has REM. Amazing video

  • Oh yeah, and that other guy he played with, Canadian dude, just closed the Olympics and the Conan O'Brien Tonight Show--what's his name?

  • WOW!!!! That was an amazing rendition of my favorite REM song!!!!

  • superb!!!!!!!!!

  • suberb!

  • bejesus.....this is off the hook, astonishing, BUCK is loving it...you can see

  • that is fucking insane

  • Nils Lofgren, If Carlsberg made great guitar players they would make them like him. The best.

  • I must be fucking dreaming.

  • that was kind of my thought, when I witnessed Nils come on stage joining R.E.M. for Country Feedback at the Orlando VFC tour, always one of my favorite R.E.M. songs, it was a magical evening of great music, probably a once in a lifetime, so so great this is online now, now let me enjoy this jam

  • I always thought that was the kind of guitar-wanking that REM loathed and were reacting against? Hence why they didn't have poodle-perms in the '80s? Sure, he's good with The Horses, but poor Mr Buck must be going: ''Erm, eh...erm...I can play Seven Chinese Brothers, though.''

  • the video keeps locking up on me, about halfway through!

can you send me the video? or the direct link?

  • sorry, but Peter is better!

  • hes "better"?? he has another style yes, but "better"?? NO!

  • Absolutely awesome! Nils is the Greatest!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome! I was at this show and it was absolutely breath taking! Nils is completely underrated. Check out his solo on the live versions of Prove It All Night. simply amazing.

  • Nils ..THE MASTER...

  • amazing!

  • he's god

  • Haunting!
