You should check out The Postal Service then. It was a short-lived project by Ben Gibbard of DCFC. They have a similar sound: synthesized with touches of that 16bit style, but they're more mellow, and the lyrics are a bit deeper and less trippy. No doubt they strongly influenced Adam of Owl City.
