  • Was this recorded at Crystal Palace garden party May 1971

  • People talk about 'Comfortably Numb' and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond' - but this has got to be my favorite Gilmour guitar solo ever. It still gives me chills after thousands of listens over a 15 year span.

  • So much better than the cd version

  • Country with more views: Italy.

    Fucking proud to be italian.

  • @lnzgabriel94 Me too.

  • fucking great solo.

only roger waters woudl think otherwise.

  • Best version, in my opinion!

  • Increíble el sonido crudo de los lejanos 70's, tremendo tema, de mis favoritos de Pink Floyd y la vida

  • who in the hell can give this a thumbs down! this is freakin awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hey David bless you, thanks from Andon....

  • this solo is so different from the studio version

  • @bozboz777 Most live versions are different from the studio.

  • I love this song! I love Dave's solo

  • One of their best songs imho.

I'm amazed at the number of PF "fans" I've met over the years who don't even know of it's existance....

  • @mrkalashnikov I agree, went to see The Australian Pink Floyd Show this year and they did Arnold Lane, I think I was the only one in the theatre who recognized the song...

  • What soul-less bastard disliked this song?

  • @achemachew I did. During the mind-blowing orgasm I got from this song, I tried clicking the 'Like' button, but alas, I missed it.

  • @NAAMxLOOS I see.

  • it's little bit like Beatles

  • Am I the only one that thinks that this sounds exactly like Ray Davies and this could be a KInks' song?

  • Am I the only one that thinks that this sounds exactly like Ray Davies and this could be a KInks' song?

  • How beautiful voice!

  • This song is a lullaby to alot of us. Or lullabye? either way, it is beautifully done.

  • the beauty in this musc will live for ever!!!amazing amazing amazing'!!!

  • BEAUTY IN MY EARS.

  • Amazing, thanks for the up.

  • Transcend!

  • This is a tremendous peace of history.

  • like sumone really disliked this what a douche ... this is so amazing

  • gilmour's guitar playing - so sweet, so lyric and so powerful, it's magic

  • Do you know were to get this concert

  • ludilooooo

  • ive got an old mp3 of the Floyd recorded in Lodon in 1972. It has Time etc on it. It's quite long, pretty good quality, has bizarre sound effectcs etc. If it's not already on YT could upload it. It could be 20-30 mins duration

  • it says this was also the first time they played some of their pieces off meddle? would anyone know if pillow of winds or fearless is included on that set and if so if theres a way to get them? or if they're posted somewhere

  • I was listening to this song just before the Tornado in Joplin Missouri hit. I think I know now what song will remind me of that day(May 22,2011)

  • "Sing to me....sing to me" ....

  • this and animals are floyds best work in my opinion..light and shade the old formula

  • I think this intro eventually became the intro to the Dark Side of the Moon album.

  • Thumbs up if you think Pink Floyd should release a live album from 1970-1973.

  • @pagani43 ummm ever heard of ummagumma? Half of it is live

  • @Noseheros Sure I've heard of Ummagumma, I've got it myself. But what I'm trying to point out is that they should release a live album with lengthy (bluesy) jams and improvisations like on here (they turn "Fat Old Sun", not such of a special song, into a fourteen-minute jam) which they did best (in my opinion) between 1970 and 1973. Oh, and by the way, Ummagumma was recorded in 1969, not between 1970 and 1973.

  • @pagani43 yeah that would be sweet, I love all of their music, but I think there's something special about the music after piper and before darkside

  • @pagani43 They could've easily released an album like this instead of the Anybody Out There album (if you haven't heard that yet, simply listen to The Wall and add some reverberation and crowd noise to it).

  • Ooohh David....you have a voice of an angel and play like a god.

  • This is one of the best songs ever, and this performance in particular is the best one.

  • this is my favourite version of Fat Old Sun, 5:27 it sounds like a bell for me, David is A-Ma-zing :D

  • excellent and beautiful. i would of loved to be sitting in the room when this was recorded. amazing what real music is compared to now a days music. thank you for posting

  • THIS IS EPIC AS FUCKK!

  • Outstanding performance and the feeling is voiced bravely!

  • Syd was gone in 68

  • there aren't any dislikes

  • Dave or Syd?

  • @Cowboy742617000027 - Dave

  • @grantchestermeadows, I would check out pink floyd podcasts...

  • very good !!!!

  • sonidos que van desde "con" hasta "cona"

  • do you have "one of these days" from the same show? i have this bbc show on an old cassette that's pretty worn.

  • This is the first track from the Meddled bootleg :)

  • Grazie Dio per i Pink Floyd.

  • Comment removed

  • Love it !!! thanks

  • The first time I listened the song on AHM, I almost cried. It was too beautiful.

  • @SamTalmadge the fiirst time i heard this song i did cry lol for e few months this was all i could listen to i used to leave my house at sunset everyday and drive while listening to this song and watch the sun set..... yeah.... i still do.... anyway your not alone brotha

  • David always makes me shed a tear.

  • un chef d oeuvre cette chanson encore une de pluss, j adorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    bisous à tous

    Val

  • Awesome - -awesome...

I have this on a cassette tape recorded from an old "King Biscuit Flour Hour" radio broadcast - and I've practically worn it out.

So happy to get it in digital format.

"New mown grass smells so sweet"

    THANKS!

  • I have this on vinyl bootleg, with One of these days and Echoes on the b side.I also have a double live from Hamburg, one from the Fillmore west in New York where they playedAtom Heart Mother and the well known one Winter tour 74. All great stuff.

  • Though Gilmour's Fat Old Sun solo at his Royal Albert Hall concert, done a couple of years ago, is truly amazing and probably technically better than this one, something about this one with its psychedelic echo and spacey feel just blows the roof off of my head - The best I've ever heard. In this version, Gilmour takes this song to where it truly was meant to go. Unbelievable.

  • @jamesp2 DO I EVER AGREE WITH YOU.... ITS AMAZING HOW MUCH THIS SONG MOVES ME, BOTH VERSIONS .. EVEN THE ALBUM VERSION.... ITS JUST SOO BEAUTIFUL !!

  • that was fucking beautiful..... they really are a one of a kind band. these guys will really be missed when there day comes. hopefully not too soon

  • i've been finding good ones on dimeadozen- copenhagen and san diego.

  • I have a 20 minute version of fat ols sun,how can i get i on you tube

  • THIS IS THE BEST VERSION OF THE SOLO ITS FUCKING Awesome yeeeeeeeeah

  • does anyone catch Dave fucking up the lyrics in the first refrain? listen again.

  • Adoro questa canzone....!

  • classic

  • I love the studio version. I must've played it like 20,000 times. But the solo in this live version rips!

  • I would llllove to hear Gilmour play Dylan's Lay Lady Lay... he has the perfect voice for it

  • Beautiful stuff.

  • The best version - surreal!

  • Nice clean recording; way better than the old vinyl boot I've had for decades.

  • the very first guitar solo i ever played such a long time ago this song makes my heart long for my childhood ..one of the floyds best tunes..if not the best

  • OMG this song recognize the pain in me, it makes me feel So good, this rocks

  • Where can I download PF bootlegs like this one? I've been searching everywhere and can't find a good site. I would kill to have this song to listen to all the time.

  • got this one in a trade with a fellow. don't know where he got it from...

  • I had this on casette tape

  • @aurora1957A

Its not a bootleg, its off a BBC CD. Buy it from Amazon, or straight from the BBC

  • @salforddude

wow thanks for the tip! I never thought of that!

  • @salforddude Well, as far as I know none of the BBC sessions have been officially released on cd so I still think this is from a bootleg.

  • Try RoIO as a search term (record of illegitmate origin) it's the net term for a pf bootleg :)

  • Thanks so much!

  • @grantchestermeadows1 Just download it here off YouTube.

  • @grantchestermeadows1 , mostly on blogs, there're tons of blogs with this kind of bootlegs

  • @grantchestermeadows1

torrents. I think it's on the pirate bay or demonoid.

  • @grantchestermeadows1 yeeshskull or something of the sort

  • @grantchestermeadows1 i got the meddled album off of piratebay a couple of weeks ago

  • No words....awesome!!!

    Beautiful lyrics and composition!!!

    Just listen and reflect!!!

  • Everytime I hear this song Im reminded of "Voice of God".

  • This song, Grantchester Meadows, and Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast's Sunny Side Up; all of these I find to be such a breath of fresh air.

  • this guy is the alan in Alan Parsons Project. because he was the one who support this album(Atom Heart Mother)

you can see the one of this album's song title is Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. and when i listen to this radio, i rapidly recognize that this voice is Alan because one of their song have exact same voice as he :D

  • Beautiful !!!

    Bellisimo!!!!

    muitu bono

lo mejor de pirin pink floy

  • Atom Heart Mother . what a great album. beatiful song. Fat old Sun

  • it makes me cry

  • Escelente esta versión.... fat old sun es una de mis preferidas de Pink floyd

  • One of the best floyd songs. I personally love this recording. It means alot to me. Beautiful!!!!

  • DIVINO!!!

  • I probably ought not say it, tempting fate, morbid, or what have you, but you know how there was a tribute concert to Freddie Mercury... well Neil Young may well live to a hundred but were he to leave us early and such a concert occured I could see Gilmour doing Like A Hurricane. I just glimpsed a bit of that guitar effect on this.

  • Absolutely. And although this tune/version is crystalline in it's perfection and always takes me back to the best moments of my childhood; I'd be curious to hear Crazy Horse and Neil give it a go.

  • Oh okay then... forgot I'd made that comment. How about Gilmour doing Ten Years Gone, Led Zep? That's one of those solos where Page has obviously worked it out and plays it more or less the same live (I think), a Gilmour type approach.

  • @nezuwest

"I'd be curious to hear Crazy Horse and Neil give it a go"

Let me say: a fantastic idea. The music is in you!

    Bye

  • WHAT A BAND!!

  • Perfect settings on the Echoplex...EJ must have taken some lessons here (another Echoplex perfectionist).

  • this song is amazing dave only wrote this when he was 24 maybe younger

  • If they had made it available to be bought maybe he would have maybe.

  • im sure they dont care. pink floyd made music to be appreciated, not to make money.

  • What a solo. Talk about telling a story

  • I thought is was really live

  • dave > jimmy anyway ;)

  • wahnsin !! gefällt mir besser als das von der LP :D

  • This song always makes me think of The Kinks - especially the album version, where Gilmour's voice is similar to Ray Davies's

  • Ray Davies is really underrated as a singer in my opinion; he sounds good singing all his songs, from "You Really Got Me" to "Lazy Old Sun"--which reminds me, I wonder if Gilmour was inspired, if just subconsciously, by "Lazy Old Sun."

  • I first heard this in 1982 on 95.5 KLOS in Los Angeles, recorded it on tape and lost it. Thanks aurora1957a, WHAT A TRIP!

  • This might be my favorite Floyd song ever. This version is amazing. Thank you aurora! I really need to know where I can get some good Floyd bootlegs if anyone can guide me.

  • I have a lot of Floyd bootlegs. Have you heard the Paris Theatre sessions? Amazing!

  • thnx..gettin it now :)

  • Hi excellent version; Thanks for sharing!

Any idea where i can buy it?

  • thank you for tjis video

  • Thank you very much I love this song, the intro kindah reminds me atom heart mother (song) in the live versions

  • So Awesome. It is not as clean as recent versions, and you could tell it is a song he just wrote, but it is so cool to hear one of originals of this song. It is beautiful

  • Thank you!!! :D

  • You're welcome!

    :)

  • We are all in awe of Gilmour's solo! Transcendent!

  • KILLER solo by Mr. G.!

  • This has to be the best live recording of Fat Old Sun among those that are circulating on You Tube. When I first heard Pink Floyd was back in '73 when Dark Side of the Moon was first released. Back then I thought they would be best in the studio; yet they continue to amaze me as to how great they were live!

  • Just simply awesome.

  • Whatever you comment here ,is your comment ,only other commentors understand it or don't and comment on it or disregard it.

    Nobody needs anything else

  • Beautiful voice..and the solo is just out of this world

  • Stupendo,l'assolo e la voce di Gilmour sono bellissimi

  • what a fantastic song daves solo is just the absolute mutts nutz

  • Gilmore unleashes a blistering solo >5min.

always cherished this live version of FOS! Top 5 personal PF moments.

  • Thank God for Pink Floyd

  • RIP Rick Wright 1943-2008

  • Poor Rick =[

  • Brilliant, he is the BEST!

  • Oh man, the solo at 4:45 is so incredible...

  • Now this is the real Pink Floyd....recorded at the BBC Paris Theatre? Excellent post..nice one aurora

  • In the out solo David Gilmour goes from hell on fire to such a gentle touch as they play into the fade. Such range.

    Excellent!!!

  • The last 1:00of the song gives you a taste of his slow bluesy Hendrix riffs, that often compared him to his style when let loose. He was a more defined lead guitar player that Jimi, and not as off the wall, but could basically play the same level. He just kept it more melotic and rtyhmic not just ripping and screamign notes outs. And thank god he did or we might not have darkside, wish you, animals, the wall, etc. God bless Gilmour. He is my man to go to when i need a sympathy solo.

  • David, please i am sheddign some tears from the solo and its structure. You bastard.

You make me weak with tone and notes, like no other can for sure. You are the best David.

  • Awesome, thak you for posting this. I ad it on LP a bootleg, long sice ruined. Had a blue label of London downtown it, and where they were playign was circled in yellow, LOL.

I got it in 1980. And can bare to listen the record. Thank you. Gilmour was right on this noght as usual, so where the rest of them. Thats what made Floyd Floyd.

  • amaaaaaaaziiiiiiinggg song

  • superlativa .fat old sun:vecchio grasso sole ,mi ricorda momenti passati della fase adolescienziale .tank you Pink Floyd ,tank you roger tank you david

  • Shame the ending is cut short.

  • you'll want to give part 2 a listen, perhaps?

    :)

  • Sorry, what a dumbass, I didn't notice the pt1. I taped this on my "8 track" off the radio back in 71 and hadn't heard it since. This is a great version of this, brings back great memories, thanks for posting.

  • haven't heard this version in prob 20yrs...nice job, cheers!!

  • Now this is what it's all about! The sweetest version of Fat Old Sun you will ever hear. I've had this bootleg for 20 years, but this sound quality is much better than mine. Thank you for posting this!!!

  • great song
