Great video man.. i acually built the same ones you just showed me how to buid... now when it cam down to the ratchet tie downs i got lost... my question is how did you get the tie downs to srap around your leg... pleas help me.
I'd probably were this under my costume for halloween. Then after i'm done with the all the streets,I'd take the stilts off,Put a mask on,and got to the same houses for more candy. Thanks for the tutorial :)
I think your stilts are very well made. I am actually going to replicate these stilts for next halloween. I have a question. What do use to ratchet your legs onto the stilts?
The third point I saw is to do with your leg bindings. They look very narrow. I ALWAYS recommend that the bindings are as wide as possible. The wider they are the tighter they can be without discomfort. I would also use at least 2 bindings for each leg, because if one slips or gives under stress of going up hill or down steps, a fall due to uncontrollable loose stilt could cause broken bones if the shoe is bolted to the stilt. Always think "How can I make stilting as safe as possible for me
Yeah I know, this video has many problems, It was just a project idea that we used for my video production class. I'll probably make a "Stilt Safety" video or a better one later this summer. I've fallen many times before and know what it's like. We had to keep the video under 5 minutes, which was hard. I should maybe put a disclaimer on this video.
Nice video with good instruction. I saw 3 problems. Firstly the wood you used appears to be very knotty soft wood. After time in use you may find that a knot will fail and cause you to fall. A far better wood to use is Ash which has much fewer knots. Secondly I did not see you use any knee pads. When stilting, safety gear is essential. When you get it wrong you will fall. It is good to have something to fall on that will not hurt or injure you. Skateboarders knee pads are ideal for this

If you don't feel like building your own stilts buy mine: PegStilts(dot)com
They're not as bulky as the ones in this video.

A disclaimer should be useful. If you want to talk about safety in the future, send me a message and I will be happy to help
