I personally think that Step 1 is the most important step out of all of them. You can do that alone and recognise that it is the first drink that does the damage and you will not drink, you will be a dry drunk, but you wont drink. I personally reinforce Step 1 each day on a piece of paper also writing down everything that I have lost due to drink and also everything that I will gain by not drinking. I have been sober for 9 months now and it is working! I have also done all the other steps!

Admit that we can not control our drinking. If we have any alcohol at all, we can not control our behaviour and it has a negative affect on our life. We must not have another drink.
