  • 10 that disliked this were in London in 1940

  • my home town had a a few very loud ones scattered, but they only played during tornados D:

  • Fitting one in my attic to piss the town off

  • Sounds like Axl Rose

  • at first it sounded like a cow....

  • both my dad and my sister's father-in-law remember going to school and having air-raid drills.

  • darn it,here comes the jerries again.

  • that sounds horrible

  • lol if a pale accul;ty just came out of noware and bombed them

  • I would buy one if I'd have a flat in downtown L.A. Better than an alarm system!

  • Japanese used them, watch the movie "Letters From Iwo Jima"

  • and then BOOM!

  • where did you get that? I must have one!

  • @carlorocky no idea, they do come up on ebay now and again!!

  • @carlorocky theres one on sale right now on ebay. its at £300 now and has four days to go.

  • The curfew hasn't been in effect for many years but it's a tradition to blow the whistle every night.

  • We Hear that sound every night at 8:30 in our town. It's at our fire station and they still blow it every night to let the kids know that its curfew time. Now that I'm older I know I have half an hour to get to the liquor store...LOL

  • We Hear that sound every night at 8:30 in our town. It's at our fire station and they still blow it every nnight to let the kids know that its curfew time.

  • @helenbach1002 how come they have a curfew in your town??

  • @ruuman

maybe he life in a small town in england of something ...

  • @ruuman because thats the time when things go BUMP in the night

  • @ruuman so that pedophiles wouldn't kidnap them

  • maybe he lives in ghetto country like China

  • @helenbach1002 awesome, where do you live then?

  • i have the loudest home made air raid siren...

so i must go to my little sister's room and kick her in face

    150+dB in whole house :)

  • what is the war and peace festival? sounds cool...

that's a cool sound, I would live to stage a fake airraid on my school and crank that thing:)

  • @Airborngirl13 it's a week long festival in the UK at a place called paddock wood. tons millitary vehicles from WW2 to present day are shown and re-enactors host battles. Tons of stuff, it's supposed to the biggest in Europe and possibly one of the biggest in the world. Great fun

  • in the end the cameraman's like:''where's the fu*king airplanes!'' xD

  • in ww2 this means o fuck lets go to hide somewhere :D

  • Haha, brilliant! I was there about 3-4yrs ago, walking through the re-enactors bit with English-German re-enactors on one side of the road, and German-German re-enactors on the other...when the Spitfire came over one of the Jerries shouted "Achtung, Spitfeur!" and started cranking one of those sirens! Was fun to see them all run to their 'posts' as if they were about to be strafed...esp as some little kid (about 4yrs old) started shooting them with his capgun! They played along and 'died' well!

  • @wasp27 war and peace is a great event, never ceases to amaze me how much effort they all put in

  • sounds like a lawnmower at the beginning!

  • You can search for an original one of them out of ww II (prices around 400 euro in germany). Or - buy a new one. The exact copy made of 5 kg iron is still produced...

  • cool, do you know Malcolm Dunlop?

  • @boucledhor no afraid not

  • ok cool, and can you give me a link the price ? Because i want one like your. I always go to Beltring every year, i'm french ^^

  • @boucledhor no afraid not, just type "air raid siren" in ebay.

I know nothing about them, I just asked the guys to spin it up and filmed it. There were a couple at beltring last year on stands, think £150 was the average price

  • Hi, Where did you find this one ??? I don't manage to find a hand cranked air raid siren =/ Please answer ! =D

  • @boucledhor they come up on ebay now and again, but not cheap, no idea where these guys got theirs

  • jooj!! dad already well wake up well ^ ^

  • i dont know why, but i like the sound of air raid sirens..weird, since it means danger

  • What is the mechanism? I mean what exactly makes the sound so loud?

  • @LucaTurilli89 it's a set of special fans being spun very very fast and forcing air through small holes. if you have a look at the bigger electric ones it's a bit clearer how it works.

  • I've always wanted to try one of these ever since I saw one on TV.I think it was M*A*S*H.

  • i spent a year w/ my aunt in Kansas and during one night the sirens scared me to DEATH!!!! (maybe b'cuz she had one on her street, but still) i rememeber cuz when i was 6 or 7 the sirens woke us up and my aunt took us all out to the storm cellar in her yard and the tornado was only like an F2, but it was still scary!!! :(

  • We have storm sirens in our area that sound the same. I never heard one till a few weeks ago. There was a tornado warning and I had to drive past one while it was going off.

  • sounds very cool

  • its just like silent hill

  • scary film

  • gotta love the klaxton

  • this sound is heard very very far, and as soon as one of these babies goes off, hundreds more in that area will to.

one way or another you will hear the air raid, either the bombs, the sirens or maybe the shitload of huge bombers flying over your head, not to forget the flak 88 and anti air shooting at the bombers to hehe, you'd find out:)

  • the guy lathink in the end sounds rather nervous and i cant plame him the sound is making ppl feel uncomfortable looking up in the sky and stuf ;P

  • lol.... WW2 setup? or WW1?

  • WW2 I believe

  • yeah right WWII did have air raids over the years from '39 to '45

  • Sounds like my lawnmower :3

  • wow! wish my lawnmower sounded like that!

But seriously you might want to take a look at that ;)

  • @deenotheman2 sounds like my teachers ass :D

  • it would be freaky to hear that knowing someone was about to attack

  • this is how we wake the batallion up during reenactments sometimes they come out and hit the dirt!!!=)

  • fucking awesome sound

  • if u heard this in WW2 u wouldnt be so happy and thinking, "this is a wonderfull sound"

  • @PitbullNL It's a wonderful sound, because we're still here to hear it.

  • We can laugh now

  • i lvoe it

  • in a pelite way lol whyyyy ;o

  • Horrible sound.

  • lol nice

from los angeles california, and i love the tank action haha

  • sounds exciting man. I've always had a knack for WWII. Im very thankful to now live in Germany and have the opportunity to go see all the fascinating 20th sites. So do you know exactly where in England the next show will be?

  • cool, where you from originally?

The next show will be 22nd -26th July 2009 in paddock wood, England.

It's supposed to be the largest show in Europe and there's tons of stalls and demonstrations. Check my latest video for some tank action.

  • Be thankful to be living there now and not 60 years ago

  • why sure you have ww2 but if you lived in 1944-1945 and up it was great now a days we have terrorism disease oil prices global warming and terrorists disguised as presidents

  • I believe you're on to something. Anytime a government leader sticks his hand in the private sectors cookie jar (Obama and GM)...you're heading for socialism. If the private company falters...so be it. But when the President will become the controlling share holder of GM stock? It doesnt look good

  • Awesome! I just recently moved to Germany. I want to attend this festival. Is it in England?

  • hi mate, yes england, just google war and peace show. It's good fun, hope to catch you next year.

  • blackalbino69 = mug

  • wow the guy below me is ritarded

he ment the sound the camera picked up was good quality because most videos pick up this sound with poor quality due to the fact its so loud

hes obviously not saying that he likes the idea of people get bombed

    your ritarded

  • It's spelled "retarded," cretin.

  • Yeah, I am sure it wasn't such a great sound for the poor people who had to live through WW2 in London during Blitz.

  • neither for the germans

  • I agree completely.

  • i live in kent just down road from this show i go every year! im so lucky i get rist bands so i get in for free!

  • that sounds like a sentry siren. I like that

    siren.

  • HAHAHA

  • that made my mom scream and make me go to the basement thanks. i laughed so hard!

  • haha, your a bad man, I like your style :)

  • mom! help me!

  • that sound scares the shit outta me when you hear u know it dont mean anything good

  • i love that sound!

  • I want one

  • turn it faster next time

  • uuuuuuuuoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu....

  • What he said...^^

  • Yep. xD

  • Hey i was wondering if they made a plastic type of a hand crank siren that you could hold with your hand (Not with a stand).

  • I have a german hand-cranked vehicle siren in my vid list.

Does anyone know anything about it?

There are pictures linked from the siren vid.

It's small, brown, and I guess, SA equipment.

    Helin 1940 Help?

  • man these have to be 140 db. at least maybe 145. I read any noise level above 140 you are to have no exposure to that level. I do not like any siren. LOUD.

  • No alarm in the world is over 138 dbs.

  • yeah, but that's measured from 100 feet away, not right in front of it...although this siren doesn't have a v8 powering it...

  • Its loud but nothing beats that chrysler air raid siren.

  • Apparently you have never heard of the HLS diesel German siren.

  • Of corse not im american but that siren your talking about must be a monster

  • Haha thats because we never needed them :)

  • I want one! :)

  • This would scare the hell outta me too. If it was between the year 1939-1945. Even more if I lived in London.

  • ill be using that sound as a back drop for a rap track wicked!!!

  • sweet, send me a copy when it's done ;)

  • I had one of these still left over in my town in the UK when I was growing up in the 70s. It was up the top of a pole. During the war, if the bombers came over, they would sound this, and everyone would head for the airraid shelter at the bottom of the garden. My mum remembers the sound, and it used to frighten her. Dont thi8nk I will show her this clip ;-)

  • Do these sirens warn for tornadoes or nuclear attacks?

  • I think this siren was used at small military outposts and small towns to warn of air raid attacks in WW2.

  • The air raid siren sounded great, but 60 odd years ago that would of sounded scary as Hell.

  • hell yea dude..it'd make me shit my pants....

  • it just made me shit mine then
