Attending a buriel in our local graveyard at Ravensdale Co Louth, I noticed a gravestone with the inscription in Irish - the grave of Count & Countess George & Josephine Plunkett - parents of Joseph Plunkett whose last words are imortalised in this great ballad. Joseph was 1 of 16 Leaders of the Irish Rebellion in 1916 executed in Kilmainham Jail. He married Grace Gifford, love of his life, hours be4 his death. She never remarried - true love! Her sister Muriel wed Seamus Mc Donagh also shot.
