  • it helps if you have more tools than a hammer, milk crate, and a vice unmounted to the floor.

  • @bloosummer Its always easier if you have more and the right tools. When making tutorial videos, its nice to refrain from using industry standard tools and using what most people have at home have....a stool , a vise, and a hammer lol. It being the bare minimum and still making it work is nice for people who would rather not spend the money on more tools.

  • Good video and he got the job done with the tools used. My advice: safety glasses!! We can get cuts or dirt just about anywhere on our body, but eyes are the worst to get an injury. Mechanics gloves. A small sledge or ball peen instead of a claw hammer. Brass drift instead of a piece of pipe. Also I wouldn't hammer directly on the trunion or drive shaft.

  • Don't hammer directly on the driveshaft you're risking knocking it out of balance/ phase.

  • why dont you use a choope hide hammer and hit the driveshaft the vibrations cause the uj caps to just vibrate out and it makes you feel better

  • You could post a video here for how to boil water, and you'd get a dozen guys saying you're an idiot for doing it wrong. If you followed these procedures, would you get your u joints out? Yup. I guess they're good instructions then! I didn't have a big enough vice to do it this way, but the tips about using the old sockets helped me tremendously. Thanks for the video!

  • @adv512

    shut the fuck up

if you knew seventh grade physicr you would know that it would be the same weight on that side even with a dent in it

    fight me punk ass

  • rather use a press and some PB blaster......or beat the crap out of it with a sledge, and throw the whole thing away!

  • Thanks for all the videos related to this procedure... you just saved me $300 or more!

    Thanks and YOU ROCK!!!!!!

  • Everyone whos saying oh just beat it out.... Yeah it can be a bitch, as far as damaging it.. yeah probably so, but this is a good LAST option for extraction.

  • God, this guy is retarded... How about just take a punch, and a BFH, and beat the cups out? There, I just shortened this video from nearly 5 minutes, to 1. So much useless shit being done... "In this clip, we're going to break free the corrosion rust bond here between the cap and the shoulder." Oh yeah, I bet a hammer and a punch wouldn't be able to do that, right? I mean, it's not like that's the point of those tools...

    Expertvillage is pathetic.

  • I don't know where some of you get this crap about balancing. I've been using this method, balljoint press and regular press and all work fine. Ive never had an out of balance driveshaft after doing it this way but I have had weights come off (during operation not when repairing the joints) because the weld rusts off. There are two clip types. One is inside and prys out, the other is outside and uses pliers to squeeze. There is nothing wrong with this method unless you are careless and damage it

  • absolutely wrong! NEVER HIT A DRIVE SHAFT! ITS BALANCED! the correct way is USING THE PROPER TOOL! none of this mickey mouse crap. and how about some info on the clip it used? such as dana and cleveland. and what the difference is. for example this vehicle uses a dana type clip.

  • @adv512

Fuck, dude, you don't need any of this "mickey mouse crap", even with just those tools. He should have just beat them out instead of doing all this other junk to complicate the process.

  • 2;19---2;47 never hamer a weld end yoke like that ! I BUILD DRIVE SHAFTS FOR A LIVING YOU DO SHIT LIKE THAT . YOU WILL BE COMING TO SEE ME TO BUILD YOU A NEW SHAFT! I SEE PEOPLE SCREW SHIT LIKE THAT UP ALL THE TIME. than they pay the price in the end.

  • It must be ballanced on the ballancing machine after replacing the uni joint

  • Steel does' nt corrode it dissintigrates into dust--- its all the same dude.

your new car is just rust waiting to happen.

  • Good video as usual---however get rid of that claw hammer and get a proper ball peen .Also helps a bit to spray it down with some penetrating oil .( W-D40 works )

  • Awsome man .... I'll tell you what if you lived where i'm at ....my car would only be in your shop ... Thanks for your help

  • You are one awsome dude for doing these vids.

    Greetings from Iran

  • it's freakin called RUST, steel doesn't corrode. And sweet press by the way

  • steel does corrode its how rust is made its a mix of air water and steel thats the only way it forms

  • why NO closed captioned in here video

  • cheaterbars and claw hammers. sweet! Ive never squished a ujoint to free it. I never get to keep them inlong enough. Damn, thats a shitty driveshaft! good work

  • or a bolt would be better :)

  • cheers mate... really helpful. i was stumped for a bit there.

    champ

  • thx for the upload, I got my rusted u joint out with your method thx!!!

  • the corrosion never seems to be too bad, even when cars still have the stock u joints after 20 years. Breaking them free is quite easy, it's not just his expertise that makes it seem that way. Getting them in is VERY easy.

It's a good idea to knock the pegs out of the end that was bolted onto the differential first, because then you can use the drive shaft as leverage on the second half. I did it backwards and it made it a little bit harder. This is a very quick and easy 1 hour job.

  • Can this be done just using a large C-Clamp?
