Thanks for reminding me Simon. Interesting to compare what was groundbreaking footage and view of the sport with today. The very idea of pros using an air mat for fun so no one gets hurt (!) compared with what is seen as present extremes at Mavericks, Jaws, and the insanity of Indonesian reef breaks makes this really uplifting to watch as it still shows the sport to be accessible and cool for anyone and everyone
I saw this Crystal Voyager with Echoes Music from Pink Floyd when it first appeared in the Cinema. Been looking for it ever since. hanks for putting it on here
This is groundbreaking work by a genius. Modern surfing is based on this mans technique (these films don't show how radical he was at 10' Rincon). I saw George filming on a mat at Little Drakes in January 1970. Had the pleasure of talking with him on the beach when a big wave knocked the film off the camera reel and he had to come to shore. He explained how the equipment worked and it was a mind blower. "Innermost" had just came out. He looked exactly as in this film and had the CHP car etc.
I grew up watching this - probably watched it over 100 times in my room on the VCR stolen from the living room - thanks so much - great stuff!!!!!!!!!!
I HAVE DOWNLOADED THE WHOLE MOVIE ON MY IPOD AND LISTENING EVERY MORNING ON THE SUBWAY GOING TO WORK UNTIL ONE DAY I`LL MOVE TO HAWAII OR AUSTRALIA,PEACE!
This film was it for me. I was 10 years old and I started riding the same air rafts, graduating to Boogie boards, then knee boarding, and finally standing on Boogie boards riding functionally all the way to shore. Becuase of this very film, I eventually. like G.G. , was ahead of my time due to following his frame of mind. Firts landed aerial in 1985. Went pro in 1995, Ha ha retired by my sponsors in 2000 at age 30, ready to settle down and start a family. It all started with this film. God Bless
Finally found this film that impacted so much on my young life back in the 70s! For me the ultimate surf movie. So evocative of the glory age of 70s music and being young and carefree. An intoxicating mix of music and image, just losing myself in the long, spacey scenes from inside the waves. A trip.
I remember seeing this amazing film in a hall in Fulham London in 1973 this was the first film followed by Fanyastic Planet far out what a night so pleased to see it again after so long, thanks a million.
