Increasingly over the years Seven has become my very favourite Doctor of all. Such a masterful, varied, deep and enigmatic performance. McCoy had the mystery of William Hartnell, the whimsy and darkness both of Patrick Troughton, the abrupt shifts in mood of Tom Baker. Ace was fantastic, together they were pure magic. By far the most underrated era of the Classic Series. Rediscovering Season 24 (mostly not as bad as it's deemed) has been fun. Seasons 25 & 26 are some of my favourites in all Who
@BinroWasRight Could I have said it any better? No, I don't think so! Sylvester McCoy has been my favorite for the three years I've been a fan. He was the fastest of the classic Doctors to catch my heart, hands down. His mysterious Time's Champion persona is just brilliant. By any chance have you read Lungbarrow?
@LokianEule Why thank you :~). Yes, he was brilliant indeed. There was a level of epic to the 7th Doctor that I don't think would be seen again until the 10's time. As for Lungbarrow, though, I'm conflicted. A part of me doesn't *WANT* to know all the Doctor's backstory, his mystery is one of the most intriguing aspects to the character. We'll see what happens on the Fields of Trenzalore
@BinroWasRight Oh I don't think Lungbarrow ruins all the mystery. I mean we still then have to ask each other who the Other is and what other secrets seven has locked away...
Sylvester...the last of the classic doctor whos...but he was a Classic in all sense of the world. Take a break from the Hobbit Sir McCoy and get back for the 50th!
Oh lovely! It's so nice to see Seven getting the appreciation he deserves!
By the way -- it's taken me this long to step out of the closet and admit to a fondness for the McCoy years. Mainly because everyone I knew hated him. I felt contrary.
This is a great tribute, well done BabelColour. Joy! I am going to meet McCoy in 2 DAYS! He is somewhere in my top 5 doctors... don't know the exact place.
Forget eccelston and eleven, McCoyu's Doctor started off the more darker version, hell he even tricked Davros into destoying Skaro with the hand of omega, tell me if that isn't dark!
i remember watching ghost light and it wos fucking scary considering then 1989 me mam watched and banned me from watching the rest coz she said it wos too scary for a 5 year old but ive seen cof and survival and there mint aswell

well i love mccoy's doctor and ace is my favourite compainon and as someone said on the 8th doctor tribute, you can really tell a good doctor by how they do in bad stories. He did well.
I have quite literally been watching this at least once a day. The editing in this is a sheer masterpiece! The audio and video clips synch perfectly with the music, creating a totally captivating video.
There were so many good things going for Doctor Who at this time (Ace, Mccoy, Cartmel, Ben A.) it is such a shame they didn't have the budget or BBC backing to realize their ambitions.
@MegaDratsab That would be from 'The Greatest Show in the Galaxy'. They cut it so close that Sylvester wasn't sure there was anything left on the back side of his costume...and person for that matter ;~)
I liked the Happiness Patrol. And the one in the post-apocalyptic hotel. And the ice planet one. In fact, those were the only episodes I understood at all from his era.
i think poor colin and sylvester got a raw deal, for a start colin got the awful costume which he himself hated, and I think if sylvester had carried on it would have got better and better.. is a shame... I love a lot of your tributes, I like it best when you use this kind of music. Less singing and more soundtrack type stuff, it makes it makes me want to watch it. It makes it seem like a really good trailer. :)
That was fantatic. Just when I think that music cut is overdone, you find a perfect use for it, bravo. Sometimes people forget that this is the doctor that blew up Skaro; Of all the doctors, he's the scary one. Great character profile.
I don't care what anyone says I feel Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy got a bad deal from people, I think they are much better than they were made out! I love all the Doctors on their own merit.... it makes the show what it is and we all have favourites I love Doctor who and have done since I can remember and I turn 40 this year! Long Live The Doctor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The best one can say about the Sylvester McCoy era is that it was a marked improvement on the Colin Baker era. Still it was not one of Doctor Who's golden eras.
The McCoy years were like BOOM! Epic, classic and fully hectic jam packed stories with really cool explosions and action scenes and it was true TV. Nah not TV it wasn't meant for just a little drama show you watch to past the time it was to kick your ass and break the boundries. McCoy does kick ass. Much more then tennant did and in far less epsisodes
Even though, the writing from his first season is crap (becuase they where undone Colin Baker stories) and not all the supporting roles were good - But to me, Sylvester McCoy is MY DOCTOR! I grew up watching his episodes (well the repeats from the 90s) But everything "Doctor Who" from my childhood is SYLVESTER MCCOY!!!
He was my 3rd favorite Doctor behind Tom Baker and Davison until Tennant came along. I like a little darkness and mystery to the Doctor, and I loved the direction the show was going before it got cancelled.
I wish I had a TARDIS to go back in time and have the head of BBC replaced the way the 10th Doctor had PM Harriet Jones ousted.
Although the show was visibly cheapened by lesser production values & a few of the stories suffer from really bad writing in this era, Sylvester McCoy is my favorite Dr. Such a zany goofball, yet his portrayal is profoundly & dangerously intelligent & mysterious. You can't beat the chemistry McCoy had with Sophie Aldred who played Ace. As far as the original run of the show is concerned, it deserved a better thought out ending and so did McCoy. It is silly to say but I love him as the Doctor.
The 7th was the only one I saw as a kid and it was a miscarriage of justice that his time was cut short just as the show started learning to give thier characters some depth and not have cardboard cut of cariacatures, Personally though McCoy has undeniably got a little greyer with some hair dye I reckon he could be the doc again really, more so than baker and baker who are both fat grey and in Colins case bald now.
Script: McCoy wakes up in Tardis. Mutters to self: "Fuck me, I just had an awful prediction that some fat, queer, Welsh bastard turns me into a raving homo, gallivanting across the galaxy with a Cockney chav! The Master shaves his cool beard, and the Daleks got laid because they found 'pity' appealing! Now to walk out the door and hope I'm not in met by a bunch of trigger happy Chink-American's waiting to kill me off quicker than John Lennon. Should I use the scanner as usual? Nah.." Dumb Movie!
@MarcusBritish lmao, good one, u know what as crazy as that sounds maybe thye should take it back to the very point it got axed, continue on with McCoy and Ace then do the changoever to mcgann again and have his adventures which we shoudlve got in the first place, then show him dying and if Eccleston doesnt want to do a regeneration scene paul can just take the wig off he was wearing and shave his head. then insert the whole Chris, david matt years. there u go, sorted lol
@bluejeckett My thoughts exactly. Though I'd have a McCoy episode where the BBC gets invaded by Daleks and RTD gets Exterminated. Cos he's a stupid bastard. Lol!
@MarcusBritish he annoys me a little yeah, this is going to sound homophobic, which Im not but Dr Who became trendy camp rubbish thanks to him, tennant became some sort of emo barrowboy, I mean yugh, could u see Hartnell making glib pop cultural references every three seconds and gelling his short back and sides?? Get real Russ
@bluejeckett I think it was John-Nathan Turner took it half way up the camp track. Look at Colin's clothing, for one. RTD is full of himself, and turned DW into his own Queer as Folk soap-sci-fi, utilising BBC agendas to promote nonsense multi-cultural/gay right in a non-relevant scenario. Save it for Coro RTD. Moffat makes it far too childish and "cool" since Matt Smith - like Sarah Jane's kids series, it's very childish. As for "Dr Who may be gay" - yeah right.. tell the first 4 Doctor's that!
@MarcusBritish Colins clothing turned the Doc into pantomime really, which the whole show was becoming anyway, bad panto which by 1986 was seriously outdated for prime time television hence the move in timeslot also. There seems to be alot of conspiracy thoery amonst the die hard fans that not only Micheal grade but JNT as well conspired to make the show as awful as possible so it would die a slow and irreversible death. And yeah Russ was up himself and had agendas.
@bluejeckett What I want to know, is if the BBC is an "Equal Opportunities Employer" - why were many of the top members of RTD's crew gay, also involved in "Queer as Folk", or similar projects? Personally I feel the expectations of Classic Dr Who fans was grossly mis-represented by the team, with their own agenda. I'm sick of hearing the "we've redone this in our vision" excuse - eg new Daleks - what was wrong with the original look which survived 48 years? All for merchandising, control, money.
@MarcusBritish Yeah I daresay, although dont forget Russ had moved on when they revealed the new daleks, that was last year under moffats rule. I didnt like them though, I mean fine change the colours all you want if you want to start making robots that look like oversized crayons but what the fuck was going on with that hump at the back of the body?? Seriously crap redesign, havent seen such a screw up since they sold K9 to Disney ffs and theres a whole nother program to whinge about lol
RTD's Daleks were fine - basic body, good Gothic style colours, blue LED in the eyestalk was acceptable, internal workings was interesting. Some people didn't like his new Cybermen though. I didn't mind them - they were from a different Universe too created by humans, so we can't dismiss them as replacing the Classic ones from Mondas which were a bit crap sometimes in terms of the tinfoil costumes, plastic workings and cricket gloves.
@MarcusBritish As for doingf buddies favours to be fair to Russ regardless of sexual oriuentations you would choose the people youve worked with before cos in that industry it pays to keep consistency with the best people in the business and if youve found a winning team you wouldnt tend to go with people you havent worked with before, if those people happen to be gay is neither here nor there I mean this is television it shouldnt be an issue really, a good majority of TV people would be homos
@bluejeckett I have no problem if some of the crew are gay - that's life. The very first Hartnell ep, Unearthly Child was directed by a gay guy from India - but there are no gay undertones in the Hartnell- Tom Baker years. RTD flooded the episodes with strong innuendo, characters, remarks, activities. My point is, his team only seemed to represent gay interests - Moffat has switched back to being less sexually orientated, but also more childish. There has been no balance in the New series.
@MarcusBritish I think the key thing to highlight there was the fact that there were no sexual undertones of any kind in the old series regardless of orientation. Who wasnt spose to be sexual it was a simple sci fi come family show and that's what RTD and also Julie Gardner who Id like to name and shame forgot, she was the EP responsible for plumping for a sexual relationship between Eccleston and Piper that started all this shyte off in the first place.
@bluejeckett I don't think there should be any sexual undertones at all - can you imagine if Tom Baker had made a move on Sarah Jane. Or Colin Baker on Peri Brown? Would Davison get the hots for Ardic.. *crash* O_o
Dr Who is meant to be sci-fi, not soap. A lonely man who travels time and space with companions, not.. fuck buddies.. he's an eccentric hero, not a hunk or intergalactic dating service. I prefer the innocent "want a jelly baby?" not sex-driven "fancy a snog behind the console?" Lol..
@MarcusBritish I mean if that lot hadve been in charge of an Unearthly Child Ian and Barbara wouldve been definitely making innuendo laiden sexual remakrs to one another for a start and thats if they werent already in a rel and all over each other, Susan wouldve had a boyfriend and no dubt the Doc wouldve been makiing glib pop cultural references to The Beatles and the Stones and wearing a miniskirt lmao
Amazing video! I love this song and your use of the material makes me want to see him as the doctor again. I think he is an under-appreciated doctor, and you've done an amazing job of pulling the absolute best of his work and setting it to score.
I also think this is the best of all your tributes to the Doctor. Bravo!
McCoy, for some reason he's always struck me as not only the darkest Doctor but as the most intelligent, both he and Paul McGann need more time as the Doctor and possibly appearances in the new series
what character says "there will be no battle here!" i dont even know if im hearing it right. can someone please tell me? it kinda sounds like davros but im not too sure.
Truly brilliant! You always do each Doctor justice and here you've done it again! Amazing tribute which spanned both McCoy's early more comedic side and the darker side which i think he wanted his Doctor to truly become. Love it :D Thank you x
"Somewhere there’s danger, somewhere there’s injustice, and somewhere else the tea’s getting cold. Come on, Ace. We’ve got work to do". My appreciation for 7 (and Sylvester McCoy) grows with each passing year. His performance was so masterful, subtle and deep. And he was witty as all get out. Love him :D
SO AWESOME!! McCoy's era was all action packed with explosions, crazy aliens and weapons. love that part at 1:43 where the Doctor as a bad as just walks away from the explosion. And Ace the best companion to date and she kicked ass as much as dr who did. Bashing them daleks in Remebrance of the Daleks, god i loved that.
@Smallvillenerd Gets even more badass when you know that's a real explosion and Sylvester McCoy was convinced his back was on fire but didn't even speed up.
SO AWESOME!! McCoy's era was all action packed with explosions, crazy aliens and weapons. love that part at 1:43 where the Doctor as a bad as just walks away from the explosion.
@doctorwho786 ah ok...well then i doubt Davros is the one that messed with the Tardis in the new series to make it end the universe...so probably not the same voice then...
@DarkJoker7 I will laugh if it is Davros, but if it is, then the mood and all the secrecy would have just turned into a predictable plot, but Steven Moffat isn't like that =)
It won't be Davros and I am 99.9% sure about that! lol
this doctor is different than all the others he was very enigmatic and was more confident in his abilities he took on every situation with a cunning that frightened me sometimes.
@BabelColour not to be a smart-ass, but technically the song is titled "Los Anthemos", but it's the theme from the movie "Requiem for a Dream", eventhough everyone knows it as requiem for a dream.
@Valtrina its Requim For A Dream by Clint Mansell used in LOTR the twin towers (my dad's a LOTR fan, u get to hear these epic songsss) btw BabelCoulor, lovin the vid=too epic ^^
@HonestDav - But he didn't die from gunfire. He died because Grace Holloway jabbed a probe into his heart and he had a cardiac arrest on the operatng table.
@bigfatcarp93 - Do you think so? I think his death sequence convulsing to electric shocks is quite harrowing, and to be killed by a companion is quite unique. Certainly a lot less lame than Tom Baker's farewell. Or Colin's!
@BabelColour Surgery gone awry? If I were the Doc, I think I'd take the tripping over a brick described in "The Next Doctor". You're right though, it being caused by a companion is very unique. And yeah, I do think his regen sequence was EPIC.
@HonestDav If you believe that, try getting shot and see how it feels and what it does to you.....It doesn't just go into the body, it tears and rips the flesh it hits and twists and then stops inside....Causing more pain than just 1 hit...Plus, as BabelColour said, he died because he had a piece of primitive wiring stuck in one of his hearts and on the operating table he had a cardiac arrest...But the death wasn't pointless...Try getting shot...See what you feel and what it does...
Some of the last Who stories were brilliant: Remembrance of Daleks, Curse of Fenric, Survival. It's unfortunate the show was cancelled just when it was getting good again, but the final lines from the ironically-named Survival are up there with the 1st Doctor's farewell to Susan in Dalek Invasion of Earth.
I wish I had a TARDIS to go back in time and have the head of BBC replaced the way the 10th Doctor had PM Harriet Jones ousted.
Comicbookfan1970 9 months ago
Stunning :~D. Captures well the epic feel of Seven's era and its story arcs
BinroWasRight 10 months ago
Although the show was visibly cheapened by lesser production values & a few of the stories suffer from really bad writing in this era, Sylvester McCoy is my favorite Dr. Such a zany goofball, yet his portrayal is profoundly & dangerously intelligent & mysterious. You can't beat the chemistry McCoy had with Sophie Aldred who played Ace. As far as the original run of the show is concerned, it deserved a better thought out ending and so did McCoy. It is silly to say but I love him as the Doctor.

2:15...the scariest Doctor Who moment ever?
Flynn4Red 10 months ago
The 7th was the only one I saw as a kid and it was a miscarriage of justice that his time was cut short just as the show started learning to give thier characters some depth and not have cardboard cut of cariacatures, Personally though McCoy has undeniably got a little greyer with some hair dye I reckon he could be the doc again really, more so than baker and baker who are both fat grey and in Colins case bald now.
bluejeckett 10 months ago
Script: McCoy wakes up in Tardis. Mutters to self: "Fuck me, I just had an awful prediction that some fat, queer, Welsh bastard turns me into a raving homo, gallivanting across the galaxy with a Cockney chav! The Master shaves his cool beard, and the Daleks got laid because they found 'pity' appealing! Now to walk out the door and hope I'm not in met by a bunch of trigger happy Chink-American's waiting to kill me off quicker than John Lennon. Should I use the scanner as usual? Nah.." Dumb Movie!
MarcusBritish 10 months ago
@MarcusBritish lmao, good one, u know what as crazy as that sounds maybe thye should take it back to the very point it got axed, continue on with McCoy and Ace then do the changoever to mcgann again and have his adventures which we shoudlve got in the first place, then show him dying and if Eccleston doesnt want to do a regeneration scene paul can just take the wig off he was wearing and shave his head. then insert the whole Chris, david matt years. there u go, sorted lol
bluejeckett 10 months ago
@bluejeckett My thoughts exactly. Though I'd have a McCoy episode where the BBC gets invaded by Daleks and RTD gets Exterminated. Cos he's a stupid bastard. Lol!
MarcusBritish 10 months ago
@MarcusBritish he annoys me a little yeah, this is going to sound homophobic, which Im not but Dr Who became trendy camp rubbish thanks to him, tennant became some sort of emo barrowboy, I mean yugh, could u see Hartnell making glib pop cultural references every three seconds and gelling his short back and sides?? Get real Russ
bluejeckett 10 months ago
MarcusBritish 10 months ago
@MarcusBritish Colins clothing turned the Doc into pantomime really, which the whole show was becoming anyway, bad panto which by 1986 was seriously outdated for prime time television hence the move in timeslot also. There seems to be alot of conspiracy thoery amonst the die hard fans that not only Micheal grade but JNT as well conspired to make the show as awful as possible so it would die a slow and irreversible death. And yeah Russ was up himself and had agendas.
bluejeckett 10 months ago
@bluejeckett What I want to know, is if the BBC is an "Equal Opportunities Employer" - why were many of the top members of RTD's crew gay, also involved in "Queer as Folk", or similar projects? Personally I feel the expectations of Classic Dr Who fans was grossly mis-represented by the team, with their own agenda. I'm sick of hearing the "we've redone this in our vision" excuse - eg new Daleks - what was wrong with the original look which survived 48 years? All for merchandising, control, money.
MarcusBritish 10 months ago
@MarcusBritish Yeah I daresay, although dont forget Russ had moved on when they revealed the new daleks, that was last year under moffats rule. I didnt like them though, I mean fine change the colours all you want if you want to start making robots that look like oversized crayons but what the fuck was going on with that hump at the back of the body?? Seriously crap redesign, havent seen such a screw up since they sold K9 to Disney ffs and theres a whole nother program to whinge about lol
bluejeckett 10 months ago
@bluejeckett Yeah Moffat's Daleks.. ugh - colourful dildos!
MarcusBritish 10 months ago
@MarcusBritish As for doingf buddies favours to be fair to Russ regardless of sexual oriuentations you would choose the people youve worked with before cos in that industry it pays to keep consistency with the best people in the business and if youve found a winning team you wouldnt tend to go with people you havent worked with before, if those people happen to be gay is neither here nor there I mean this is television it shouldnt be an issue really, a good majority of TV people would be homos
bluejeckett 10 months ago
@bluejeckett I have no problem if some of the crew are gay - that's life. The very first Hartnell ep, Unearthly Child was directed by a gay guy from India - but there are no gay undertones in the Hartnell- Tom Baker years. RTD flooded the episodes with strong innuendo, characters, remarks, activities. My point is, his team only seemed to represent gay interests - Moffat has switched back to being less sexually orientated, but also more childish. There has been no balance in the New series.
MarcusBritish 10 months ago
@MarcusBritish I think the key thing to highlight there was the fact that there were no sexual undertones of any kind in the old series regardless of orientation. Who wasnt spose to be sexual it was a simple sci fi come family show and that's what RTD and also Julie Gardner who Id like to name and shame forgot, she was the EP responsible for plumping for a sexual relationship between Eccleston and Piper that started all this shyte off in the first place.
bluejeckett 10 months ago
MarcusBritish 10 months ago 2
@MarcusBritish I mean if that lot hadve been in charge of an Unearthly Child Ian and Barbara wouldve been definitely making innuendo laiden sexual remakrs to one another for a start and thats if they werent already in a rel and all over each other, Susan wouldve had a boyfriend and no dubt the Doc wouldve been makiing glib pop cultural references to The Beatles and the Stones and wearing a miniskirt lmao
bluejeckett 10 months ago
Amazing video! I love this song and your use of the material makes me want to see him as the doctor again. I think he is an under-appreciated doctor, and you've done an amazing job of pulling the absolute best of his work and setting it to score.

@HonestDav - But he didn't die from gunfire. He died because Grace Holloway jabbed a probe into his heart and he had a cardiac arrest on the operatng table.
BabelColour 1 year ago 26
@BabelColour ..........That's even more lame!
bigfatcarp93 1 year ago
@bigfatcarp93 - Do you think so? I think his death sequence convulsing to electric shocks is quite harrowing, and to be killed by a companion is quite unique. Certainly a lot less lame than Tom Baker's farewell. Or Colin's!
BabelColour 1 year ago 2
