Yes the place is good because it was built by americans. Everything they left behind, the design and the planning after they've been kicked out by greedy (you know who), and I agree with MaruhaMasbatenia, it is hard to be proud as pinoys and this is exactly my sentiment.
Did three tours, Subic, USS STERETT, and NAVMCOMSTA San Miguel. Stayed to Decomm San Miguel. left just before Pinatubo. A lot of good memories, but when the locals got up in arms and we could only travel between bases in convoys. It was time to go.

SBMA is probably one of the best places to live if you are considering retiring in the Philippines. I have a place in Old Cabalan, right outside of the base. My place is quiet and I've never had a problem. SBMA does provide an even more secure enviroment. I have friends who live in SBMA and it is dead as doornail quiet at night. The police on SBMA can be very anal at times but at least they have everything under control and there isn't any riff raff. I'll end upon retirement in nine years.

Well, I guess where you came from there's no theives, beggars and prostitutes. Your senses can't miss them. They are all over the place especially in the big cities that you are so proud of. TRUST ME I LIVED THERE.
I guess sometimes things changes, for what i heard they do salvages some of those you have mentioned.I'll be honest with you few of those theives they only do it for fun! to some asshole!!
What you learn in 3 years of stay in the Philippines doesn't mean shit compared to what I learn about it for 21 years add the years that I studied in the United States. The US govt. was renting the bases from the RP govt. and in 1998 RP congress refused to extend your lease. And that my friend is how RP govt was able to recover the bases from the US goverment. By the way, you can't miss the beggars, theives and prostitutes at the tenderloin because they smell so much like urine.
Subic Bay is much better without the US military there. It's a fantastic place now.

I was stationed there for 3 years. They did it ...they finally managed to steal the whole base ! This was once the base housing for the US Military.
