when they do that its a sing of mating also when their beird goes jet black and they either do the headbanging or the waving what yours did its a sing of mating if you look at the one in the cage its beard is almost fully jet black its mating and its... well its horny also i think the male wanted to protect the female from you considering your huge compared to them they have a sence of proectivity with each other

@Kieranoe The main things with BD's is floor space. 1 adult is recomended as 4*2*2. The one in the video is 4x3x3 and it houses them fine. 4 foot is probably best but it's what you can afford. I find you need decent floor space but also height as well to fit the lighting in as the BD's shouldn't be able to reach the bulbs cause they will burn themselves - used these guys and they are very good valuevivariums.co.uk - the VX48 range is pretty good but look for 4x3x3 if you can

i have my female and male in the same tank, but forr the past few days it looks like shes fatter, but she wont eat ANYTHING. She has also gottin lazy and i think her head turned more pale. can someone please help me out :/

often a male and a female living in the same viv, wont breed because there isn't enough room to manoever round, but once let out they will be more likely to show their breeding behaviours and mate. They should be fine in the same tank. But if you notice any signs of stress then you should consider seperatting them. Signs of stress can inlcude eating less, hiding more than often and weight loss. If you notice digging behaviour from the female this may meen that she is preggers.

mating behaviour. it seems brutal when its in the process... but thats beardies for you. If she isnt doing well as a result of it, just keep them separated until you want bubs :) Put her in for a mating... then remove her once you witness mating. And yeah... the mating looks brutal... he will bite her and thrash about and she wont look happy. But if she runs during this and puffs and hisses... take her out.

Males will blacken their beards as a sign to impress females, and attract them. If she does not want to mate with him, you will tell. observe, he will know if she does not want him. but usually in captivity, they will always mate.

the male is not killing her, he is trying to mate, and its aggressive. its what we would consider rape, but its normal for them. i use to breed them a lot. arm waving started by the female is a major sign she wants to mate. If its a mate who starts it, then its more like "hey you" get out of here or else.

my male and emale are both 8 months well soon they will be and shees pritty fat and she eats alott and when ever i put my male with her in a open area he always puffs his chin out and leads to side and iav read that when they do that he wants to mate but she runs away and he will chase after her after 10 seconds so i dont know if she pregnent or she dosent want to mate can u give me some advise please

@andrewf95 Ok there's no easy way to say this but the bearded dragon mating ritual is quite violent - the male will basically grab her by the back of the neck and not let go until he's done - although it can take a few times of that before she gets up the duff. A few things to keep in mind:

- If you don't want her to be pregnant then separate them NOW!!

- Females can keep male semen for over 6 months - means a lot of batches of eggs!!

- You will need a second cage soon!!

@andrewf95 Also - the female can get over sexed if she is left in the same cage as the male - she will need her own cage/viv either way - you will need to put the male in the new tank if she is pregnant though!! msg me if you want any more information................

@andrewf95 they are 8 months old - that is usually when they become sexually mature - basically pretty soon he's going to start going for her - If you can picture a bearded dragon rape attack (I know it sounds like I'm going overboard but I'm really not!!) happening - that is what it looks like!!

Also what will happen is the male will dominate food in the tank.

What i mean by oversexed is: she will become withdrawn - usually hiding away and he will just keep wanting more and more!!

you might want to take them to a herp vet or a specialty shop where someone can sex them, but you can kind of get a goo idea by checking fo little ridges on the back legs or for one or two bumps by the cloaka. ridges and two bumps mean boy. hopes this helps)

can someone help me, i have 2 beardies bruce my mail and princess my female. since we changed the lighting bruces had been more agressive not to princess but to his reflection and princess would just wave thinking it was towarsd her. now about a week ago i gave both of them fuzzies 2 each and they aet them like nothing after that princess was puffing her chin and doing a whole body bow , i cant explain it i thought she was constipated but shes not , is she droping eggs or is this agression?

Ok 1st things 1st. It has nothing to do with your lighting!!

If i was to guess I would say that they are both about 10months-2 years old right?? They are basically becoming physically mature.

The head bobbing and the chin puffing is a female sign of "sub-dominance" and so is the waving.

You'll find if you stay in the same room as her it's not his reflection that he's being aggressive towards it's either hers or princess herself. This is normal behavior as males are VERY teritorial.

well thank you very much but also ive come to notice that princess is extreamly bloated though ive seen her poo a couple times and shes eating like always and i adopted her but bought bruce so on their age im not sure but they have to be atleast 10 months or so. but her bloating i cant explain wouldnt she bee dead now if it was a blokige its been almost 3 weeks shes been like that. she runs around her eyes are still bright everything seems fine besides the bloating...can u help me there?

Is she digging a lot?? Like trying to bury in the sand/whatever substrate you are using?? If she is then she is up the duff - I can give you advice on that if she is.

well lastnight she just droped 17 eggs so yeah she was prego we placed her in a box with slightli damped peatmoss and when we woke up there was 17 lil eggs waiting for ue , but were not sure if theri fertil or not its the 1st batch shes had

i just got my bearded dragon, he is a juvenile, he had a previous owner but he had to get rid of it because his wife got pregnant. I was wondering, whenever i get my hand close to him, he puffs up and and shows his beard. i was wondering if that meant that he dosnt like my hand around him. i have held him before at the pet store and he was pretty docile. it also closes its eyes whenever i put my finger up next to him while my hand is outside the tank. could you help me?

From what I've read it basically means "I'm a bearded dragon and I'm here" The main thing to watch is what color his/her beard turns. If it stays the same color you're fine, if it turns black it's him/her showing aggression!! If he's cautious with your hands grab a big leaf of cabbage, tear off a long strip and try to hand feed him (watch ya fingers cause they WILL mistake them for part of the food!!!!!). Beardies are naturally curious creatures, they tend not to bite unless they tell you 1st!!

Beardies need a lot of floor space. They aren't really climbers but they will try to get near the heat to bask. It's all about floor space with them. The more floor space the better. 55 gallons..... really not sure - post the dimensions and i'll give u a better answer :0) - thanks for the question.

ps. to give you an idea 3ft long by 2ft wide by 2ft tall should house an adult male (or male and female) But a 4x2x2 is recommended if you keep more than 1 in a viv

In my opinion they can both do it as much as each other to be honest. My male does do it more than the female but in terms of tail thickness I'm not too sure. If you genitally lift up your dragon to see it's ummmm parts you will see either 1 bump or 2 bumps above their opening. Check on google to see which is which (I keep forgetting which is which but it's how i sexed mine!)

It's a 3ftx2ftx2ft tank.

I also have a 3ftx2ftx18in which i house the female in occasionally!! If you are after a decent size go with the 3x2x2 as there is more floor space to work with.

General rule for Beardies - the more floor space the better!!!

I have two like you, but I keep mine apart a little less everyday. I've had the female for like a month now and he is always black around her, but she isn't scared of him like she used to be. She can hang out with him in his cage and they both jump out and sit next to the window together. They sleep next to each other at night now most of the time too.

Ummm you're looking at about a year ish i think. But they grow very very quickly!!! Don't forget the Calcium dust for the crickets to make their bones strong when growing!!

Haven't seen anything online about Brocoli. Mainly fed shredded carrot and dark cabbage - obviously with the crickets as well.

sand can be bad for baby dragon's as their stomach lining is not tough enough to deal with it, but juvenile onwards is fine, especially if it is calcium sand as it helps boost the C intake aswell as feeding.

Also I heard carrots wasn't great for them  0.o

I used to give mine Broccoli but they grew off it but nowadays they prefer rocket and italian lettuce >.>
