I'm sure people fuck to a lot of shit that surpasses the indifference of this.. Second off, why the fuck do you care? The one's talking shit like that are probably the same folks worrying about homosexuals having sex behind closed-doors at home. Just because you're insecure for whatever reason doesn't mean you need to act like a spiteful little child to feel secure.
What the fuck, Youtube? The ad I'm getting before this video is fifty two minutes long. This is just ridiculous. Either way, this is a great album, and this song was easily one of my favorites on it.
I know this song is specifically about Bolton's Ridge. Yet it could also be about D-Day & Normandy or even Iwo Jima. I hafta admit, this album is brilliant. She definitely deserves a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year. I know she won't get it but just to get the recognition it deserves IMHO. Definite winner for Best Alternative album though.
No, its about Battle of Gallipoli 1915, where British Imperium (ANZAC forces) attacked against Ottomans. There died about 470 000 soldiers. At least this song, "battleship hill" and "the colour of the earth" tell about that.
Yep, the change in lyrics reflect that too, it starts off as "Death was all and everyone" then becomes "as we advancing in the sun, sing "death to all and everyone"" it's a very clever transition from an outside observer to getting caught up in the violence, and then cutting out to the flat and mournful sax. Favourite song off the album.
I really dont know, why i was thinking her new album sucks at the first listening. (Although, while writing this, i got it: U have to listen to that songs more than one time ;D)
@Thomasknife69 What has PJ Harvry got to do with Patti Smith?? I don't see the comparison other than they both happen to be female and in the music business. I'm not sure that this song works tbh. It's too disjointed for one thing.

@m06een00 In the past she has sounded very like Patti Smith and I always assumed she must have been a big influence.

That change down is just so eerily and tragically beautiful. The onward, relentless march to death by brainwashed minds captured breathlessly.

How can it not be her style when it's her music and her songs? It's like saying that she doesn't look like PJ when she wears a hat. Or something.
Sweetforthesoul 1 year ago
Comparing her to Patti Smith is like comparing apples and oranges.
