I cannot comprehend Stoke councils ridiculous decision to sell the spode museum collection and see it removed to Coalport. Our pottery industry has been destroyed and consigned to history and now that history is sent from us.
@PaddingtonsShotgun The museum collection hasn't been sold. The Spode paper archives are held at the Stoke-on-Trent City Archive and the collection of ceramics formerly on display at the Spode Museum are now at the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery.
Some of the finest ceramics ever known have been produced at this legendary factory in Stoke-on-Trent. The founder, Josiah Spode, invented the formula for fine bone china, and perfected the technique of blue underglaze printing. Since 1770 Spode has revolutionized the English tableware industry and set the standard by which all others have been judged.
Sadly, this great company is now in administration, largely as a result of incompetant management outsourcing production to the Far East.
