I have an option of buying a used D60 for a reasonable price. I haven't owned a DSLR before but I have done my research bout the basic stuff I need to know like aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc. Would you recommend to buy a used D60? (It's in good condition)
What a NIKON beast!! i have one and i love it :P Great for time-lapse photography. i just need to trigger it for time-lapse with this little remote TEMPUS. works with MEX 5, 5N and 7. website at: tempus.bymac.org
I would not thank you for a D60. Very average camera. Only 3 Autofocus points and you cant use non-motorised lens on the body. (Well you can but they won't autofocus)
I sold mine for £200 in MINT condition boxed with a 18-55 lens. To be honest I though this was a good price for a very average camera.
Can I permanetly set the image size to 640x480, the "fine" "normal" and "basic" sizes are way to big for the job I'm doing, and its a pain to resize every picture from the menu options. The D60 does have options for 640x480 (and smaller) just not anywhere, where it allows you to set it as default. Only in the editing options is this resizing feature found.
Help, I dont want to resize pictures the rest of my life!
@vainparasite the Nikon d60 was my first SLR camera for Christmas and would like to answer your questions, yes there is a fully auto mode where advanced controls like iso and White balance are taken care of and basic controls of a point and shoot camera are left to you, also, I find that if you are starting off on dlsr cameras then the d60 is an excellent choice for beginners to intermediate photographers :)
Hi im looking for a dslr and have seen a d60 2nd hand locally with 18-55 lense for £200. I know extremely little about dslr's but would love to learn more so i have a few questions, Is there a fully auto point and shoot mode to use until i get to grips with it? and is it a good choice of starter? I will be taking it to florida later this year and i was a little dissapointed with the shots i could get with my compact last time especially at low light with light in the far background.
this nikon d60 is not that great. my aunt has one, i used to use it until i found the canon SX2010. its amazing! the nikon doesnt show clear pictures or it doesnt show the exact features of the person.
Has this product been removed from the production line or something? I find it harder to find D60 now. Even on the official Nikon site, D60 is no longer shown on their "Product" list.
For timelapse video's you can use the free program Camera Control 4.0. You hook the camera too your laptop using the USB cable and the program takes the pictures. You can choose how many pictures and what interval it should use. Also other settings like iso, shutterspeed, etc.
Thank you so much for your videos. Im a beginner and dont even know how to begin but because of your videos, I now can. Amazing videos. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
is there a way to turn the LED screen on so you can see what your taking a picture of through it, like all the other digital cameras? i just got mine and i cant figure it out :[
@kkeithhh and when you press this button here, A small rocket will shoot out and hit whatever you have been focused on causing a small nuclear explosion.
Hi Cameralabs! You guys are one astounding place and I'm very thankfull for all the videos. I recently just purchased (finally) my Nikon d60. I'm enjoying much more than my d40x AND even my d90! Once again thank you!
Im looking at getting a DSLR camera as im getting more into photography and it would help loads in my art. Im 16 and need some advice on a good DSLR that is not to complicated??
i saw this statement in one of the reviews for Nickon D60.....(Since the D60 is half as light sensitive, the D60 has to use twice as long a shutter speed or a larger aperture, which makes it more likely to make a blurry picture than the D40),
I don't believe this is true. the d60 is the new d40, so it probably has higher iso settings meaning the it is more sensitive to light, i don't think its half as sensitive, that would be retarded for a new model.
No problem, but if anything its not as sensitive as the d40 because of a sensor size maybe, but i doubt it, prolly more sensitive considering its a new and "improved" cam.
the d60 is better for a beginner it has simple controls and is really good to learn on with it automatic and manual focus settings. i have a d60 and i love it always go with a Nikon.
@DontForgetMeLindsayx haha wow you just failed that big time... In japan... it's Neekon... British English speaking people generally say Nickon... Us americans... we completely missed it and said Nyekon.
I bought a d60 4 months ago and ive notices a few dead pixels both in the viewing screen and in the actual images. is this going to cause a problem for me in the future? should i take advantage of my warranty and get Nikon to have a look at it?
clean your ccd sensor with a air pump not a COMPRESSED AIR CAN youll ruin it if you use a Compressed air can. use a pump. from like henrys blacks. etc.
flagstaffffatsgalf : i just bought a Nikon D60 so far i love it!! it will be hard to tell which one is better for me.. i like canon i was about to get the canon xti or Xsi but i got D60...they are both good cameras and will always compete to each other...
Flag, it's a personal preference. I've used them both and I prefer the Canon XSi. My sister also recently purchased one and she loves it. It's a great camera and you can get some awesome deals on it. Google is your friend. :)
nikon d60, omg its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good, ive done several events and parties and all the pictures have come out good, its almost impossible to take a bad picture with the nikon lol
yes it has the digital one and live view is right on top of it. I will be getting it in a few days, I got it at bestbuy online. From what I been reading this is the camera to have for entry level photography.
I have to buy a camera for my design classes. I've used the D40 all through high school. Now I'm looking to own this myself. A friend has a Cannon, and since I'm used to Nikon he suggested this, and I'm loving what I see.
Very good review and video, I enjoyed all 9 minutes. I am thinking about buying my first DSLR and have been searching all over for various info about these advance cameras. So far I really like the D60!
Hi trackrunner908, I haven't reviewed the new Sonys yet, so can't comment, but the models I'd recommend right now are in the best buys section at cameralabs . com. PS - no need to post the same question twice.
Hey Gordon how long would it take an already novice photographer to out grow this camera? I've grown up using a 35mm SLR camera and I have enough experience to use it in full manual. Should my first DSLR be the D60 or the higher spec D80/90?
It's impossible to say how long it would take you to outgrow it, but remember it still has full manual control, so there's plenty to play with. I'd only go for the D90 if you can make use of its benefits over the D60, like the video, faster fps, better AF and viewfinder etc. Feel free to discuss this further on the cameralabs forums...
Its a matter of preference really. When it comes down to it, they all do the same thing. I like Cannons image stabilizer, but Nikon has that to in the D60. Just pick one and go with it.
i gave this to my dad as an early parents day present, but really ive been using it the most, wow what a fucking amazing camera, beautiful but... if you dont use the flash the picture is dark and the continous shooting is not too good
With live View you tend to hold camera away from your body like a snap and shoot. Not comfortable for SLR's. I think you want to keep close. Compose, shoot.
Thought live view is important but dont think so now.
i just got my D60 just now! im so in love with it. I tried both at the shop. D60 and canon's 450D. I just prefer the D60 due to some reasons. It all depends on what type of photography you wanna do. =)
good day cameralab i do have a little problem right now choosing the right camera between the d60 and the 1000d which camera do i hook up this two lovely cameras and it would be my first DSLR camera i been in photography for 1 year now i just decide to purchase my first DSLR camera but iam stuck with this two glorious camera so straight to the point i need your advices and suggestion which one do i get. the d60 or the 1000d
Great reviews! I watched most of them! Im torn between the Sony Alpha 300 and the Nikon D60. Any thoughts... recommendations? should i just forget them both. go large and get a D90... keep up the good work... laters..
Thanks! It depends what features you're after - check the verdict pages for each review you're interested in at cameralabs . com and it'll compare them.
I have this 28-200 mm lense from Tokina and I really want to know if it fits on the d60 so can anyone tell if it does? I have an old nikon film camera ca. from the 80s and it fits on there fine. I don't really care about the autofocus and all that since I can manual focus it but I just need to know if the 80's lenses are adaptable with the current lenses. thanks so much for anyone who can tell me.
There's pros and cons to both - check out my reviews of both at cameralabs . com and also our best buys section there... feel free to discuss your options on the cameralabs forums!

It gets around 4-6 straight shots and then stops, 5-6 are a little bit slower

i gave this to my dad as an early parents day present, but really ive been using it the most, wow what a fucking amazing camera, beautiful but... if you dont use the flash the picture is dark and the continous shooting is not too good

Gonna get either the Canon 450D or this. Dunno yet, meh.

hey everyone, I have a big question.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I would say canon, partly because you can get lenses wich are much cheaper!

The D40 and D60 will both be phased-out in favour of the D5000...
