If you watched all of the episodes its pretty much laid out piece by piece; ultimately its because of a hereditary disease that his brother peter died from a long time ago. Chris died because of all the pills he was taking and that conflicted with the disease he had that made him have swelling in his brain that basically kills him like this. (seizure and internal bleeding)

Chris' life is really hard-his dad hates him and left him and his mom for a new family, His big brother died, his mom abandoned Chris afterwards an now-he dies. You really should watch Skins UK it's a really nice show. :)

I still can't decide which Gen was the best. I started watching Skins from Series 3, and then went on to Series 4. I thought Gen. 2 was the best! But then watched Series 1 and 2 and was stuck between them two. I think the first, two Gen's were AWESOME! One of the most geniune characters on the show. I loved how he's such a party animal yet very romantic when it comes to Angie & Jal. (although it's more of sex for Angie) First gen was very real, and certainly most relatable, eg Sid & 'Chelle. Second gen was more meh and forced, and I sure hope the third gen is good, if not better than the first gen. I didn't really like first gen at first, but it grew on to me. Tom's such a good brother.
