BUT, if I was to ask her "why do animals deserve rights too?", she would give me a typical vegan answer like "I see animals and humans equally".
I would choose to kill the pig, but that does not mean that they are not equal in worth. But as a human being I would value the life of another human being more than the life of a pig. As would any other creature on this planet. If you had to choose between letting someone you know and love be killed, or a person you have never met before, you would spare the person you know. That does not mean that the two are not equal in worth.

Everybody looks pasty faced with no makeup and bad lighting, what are you gonna' do? You can do your own research regarding the benefits of a plant-based diet, I'm not trying to change anybody, here...just entertian and educate...and if I do live to be 90, I imagine they will have invented some sort of cool hovering chair for those who can't walk, and I wouldn't want to miss that.

There's enough compassion to go around. Now, I can't single-handedly bring back our troops from Iraq (although I'd like to), and I don't have the means to feed starving chidren throughout the world (I leave that to Brangelina and Madonna), but if I don't have to eat a cow to survive, or thirve actually, then I'm not going to.

@lukin: No, I think you're the one off the mark, captain. Sarah would kill a pig over a 3 year old, meaning she values the girls life more. To her, the pig is INFERIOR to the girl, therefore it isn't EQUAL to the girl. I can't make it any clearer. BUT, if I was to ask her "why do animals deserve rights too?", she would give me a typical vegan answer like "I see animals and humans equally".

I would choose to kill the pig, but that does not mean that they are not equal in worth. But as a human being I would value the life of another human being more than the life of a pig. As would any other creature on this planet. If you had to choose between letting someone you know and love be killed, or a person you have never met before, you would spare the person you know. That does not mean that the two are not equal in worth.

As you may know English is not my first language, so I'm not sure if I'm able to make myself understood when I say that the only thing that speaks in favor of the child is the fact that I am also a human being and would rather spare the child and kill the pig simply because I relate more to the child. That fact aside there is nothing that makes it more right to kill the pig.

In general we are all equal in worth, human and animal alike. But the ones that are closer to us will benefit from that when a decision like the one with the girl and the pig is made. So you're right, to ME, one is valued over the other. Both when it comes to choosing a human over an animal and choosing one human over another. All humans are equal - surely you don't deny that, even though you would choose your own family over mine?

Nah, this is also about humans. If your "rules" apply when it's animal vs. human, they can also be used when it's human vs. human. No, you see all humans as equal in the same way as I see all beings as equal. But if this means that I can't choose a human over an animal, then it also means that you can't choose one human over another. Because then all humans wouldn't be equal, according to your theory.

@Sarah: The girl vs pig decision you made was quick, and "obvious", which means you didn't even put thought into it. In a situation like that, you'd be forced to decide between two humans, and it'd make even Jefferson look like he was contradicting his own theory. A decision between two things that are equal to you shouldn't be obvious. You were easily able to pick one thing over another, which implies that the two objects may not be as equal as you said they were.

I have no idea where you got that vegans see animals and humans as equal from. Life is life in the sense that an animal is not simply property but is seen as a LIFE, a being that FEELS. Do animals have the same intellect as humans...no...same capacity...no. If my house was burning down and I had a child and my dog in it, would I save the dog first?...no. The point is not about equality it's about not abusing the power we have as humans over animals. .

@itfell: I suggest you pick up a couple of grammar and punctuation books, so you'll learn to use periods and commas, and so your posts won't make you look like a tool. The child & dog question comes from PETA, don't say it doesn't. PETA isn't a singed rep. of vegans, but I welcome you to find a vegan that honestly doesn't support PETA. I don't know what the hell you were trying to say in the rest of your post. Pay more attention in English class.
