I HAD NEVER HEARD THIS SONG TELL THIS MORNING. I GOT INTO MY VAN AT 6;22 A.M. TURNED ON THE RADIO TO HEAR THE LAST 4 SECONDS TO AN OLD MICHEAL JACKSON ONLY TO HEAR THIS SONG. IT PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE TO KNOW JUST HOW THE LORD WILL LET YOU KNOW THAT HE IS WITH YOU AND THAT HE LOVES YOU. JESUS IS MY LORD AND SAVIOR FOREVER.
I still have this 45 rpm hit released by Dot Records in 1958 as the B side of "It's Too Soon To Know." Pat Boone then eclipsed even Elvis in popularity as Presley had been drafted into the Army & Pat was on TV Thursday nights with his own show. The only singers close to these icons in status were Jimmy Rogers who ushered in the folk music craze & Ricky Nelson whose hits derived from his previewing them on the popular TV series, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet. Imperishable golden memories.

"Gonna be rewarded for the things we've done" Hardly a pure way to live is it? Anyone who lives by that code is deceitful, hypocritical and self serving. These lyrics/beliefs simply reveal a basic, uninformed view of the world. It is a lazy and insulting concept to decide that the human life form is so simply constructed as to follow 'good' or 'evil'. We are complicated beings and the decisions we make are based amoung other things on the life tools/skills we are given (or not) and influence...

If not and children are exempt then when does the lord decide who is an adult? At what age? The infinitely complicated questions of existence just cannot be brushed away by these religious views. People have a chance to live well if taught through positive nurture and healthy influence by stable parentage. The idea of heaven...

Take for example a person who is abused by their parents from infancy and is raised to believe theirself is to blame. This damage may well continue through to their adult life. This person will have no concept of innocence or love and the idea of treating others thus will be alien to them. Typical consequences follow. Are they condemned to hell despite never being given a chance?
Whenever i play this,it makes people laugh. "The lord is coming from his throne on high....he says he's coming back again to raise the dead!" LOL. Really, it's just a simple interpretation of the end times.
Actually, this only peaked #6 nationally in April 1958. Ironically, while it was in the to 10, "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands" was #1. Imagine...two songs about God being in the top 10 at a time when rock n' roll was dominating the charts. That would never happen again...the athiests and ACLU would see to that.

My goodness, the world has certainly changed since this happy, innocent little song was considered rock and roll music by some.

A Top 5 hit for Pat Boone around March 1958. It was kept out of the top spot by The Champs (Tequila). Drink up.

A rare instance where Pat really excelled on an uptempo song.

It's a great song, and if it inspires the faithful, fine. Leave it alone.

I don't think people hate God. I think they have a hard time believing in ghosts, holy or otherwise.

Happy 75th Birthday, Pat!!! Hard to believe that this man was the first teen idol, before the Jonas Brothers, before Miley Cyrus...
And a Christian too..

In light of today's hatred of God, it is hard to believe this was a top 5 hit in 1958!
It's evangelism-it's talking about needing to get saved to have a "wonderful time up there"-

Nope. Not at all. Talk to your local Mormon missionaries, one of the few religions that doesn't believe that God is a vengeful tyrant.

This is a catchy song--don't read so much into it. Have you ever had a good day in your life?

Pat was totally under rated and it's so unfair. He was an amazing vocalist. I also think there was alittle Rockabilly in him.. hmmm!
Watch out Brian Setzer, Pat's after your crown.

Loved this song by Pat. He was always standing strong on the Lord, never worrying how the media would treat him.
In the end he will have a special place in heaven as he did what the Lord says...to preach the gospel UNTIL... HE returns.
