  • I love it!

  • Peter Gabriel is all class

  • Love a lot of his songs, but when he slows it down he really can get under your skin. Great stuff.

  • Amazing ! Speechless ....

  • Tony's on bass...

  • @zoewolf as always been with Peter!!! ;)

  • WOW

  • I'm only 17 years old and i love Peter Gabriel's music, although a lot of people don't understand it because I'm supposed to listen nowadays music which is very comercial.

Sorry for my bad English is that I am Spanish.

  • Peter is an incredible personality. I never saw this before. Love the guy.

  • Great song ! I'll never forget his coming to Chile after the dark Pinochet years.

  • incredible moment of trust when he dove the stage

  • Mr. Gabriel is truly epic, legondary, unforgetable - moving. Just love his lyrics and of course his voice!

  • Fantastic album, fantastic song, fantastic performance!!!

  • What a show!!Fantastic!!

  • Am I the only 15 yr. old in the entire world that thinks this is the most extraordinary live performance to date?

  • @calebjoseph12 I'm 23 and I've loved this style of music since I was atLEAST 9 or so. Honestly, I've loved 80s music nearly my entire life, even though I was only 3 when they ended. I love pretty much any kind of music [including, yes, the much disdained rap & country], but I've always held 80s new wave at the top... well, right below Enya. Because has always been and most likely will forever be my absolute fave artist. Of course... her 80s work is perhaps my favorite... so there ya go. :^P

    - $

  • I am 18 and I want a movement where a radio station is made that only plays art (AKA PETER GABRIEL). Would make my life complete.

  • This is not a religious thing in the Christian sense people. He's pulling from the goddamn universe. You gotta be deeper than that. Gabriel is on a whole other level...

  • i wonder how is it possible to be so so amazing as this guy is. No words!

  • Simply genius !!!

  • ugh religous comments -_- heres a new one. PRAISE SATIN. there now you know how it feels to be annoyed by religious comments that piss you off and have nothing to do with the music.

with that said, who thinks that tori amos singing a duet with peter gabriel would have been incredible?

  • @sTapleEVA I prefer cotton actually. Much easier on the skin.

  • in your eyes used to be my favourite pg song till i got pg4[1982 album] on cd and heard this song on my discman.the drums were just incredible. back in may 1993 when i was 21 yrs old,i saw pg live in dublin, ireland;i was right up at the very front of the stage and it was bloody amazing to say the least;i will never attend a gig as good as it!-im certain

  • i wonder who the two idiots were who disliked this song were...they must have no taste in music :(

  • Outstanding..im lost for words.. this is SIMPLY AMAZING !! If anyone notised , David Copperfield used this song in one of hes illusions, what a show

  • Luv this song.....

  • Saw this at Buff State college (Buffalo, NY), small intimate concert and probably the best concert of my life...I knew he was going to stage dive for this song but was still absokutey blown away...PG must have bought hundreds of those white jackets as his was torn off at my show too!

  • It took three spread apart views, but I finally really appreciate this as excellent.

  • Manu Katché & Gabriel's music: Perfect symbiosis! How he adjusts his toms while playing is just cool!

  • The concept taking to the body itself.....

  • This song never got the air time it deserved. What a song, what a performance, and what an innovative artist. Love you PG...

  • Oh my god, that's amazing. Check his t-shirt out after that, he's lucky to have anything left at all lol! Brilliant

  • I am not religious in the slightest, and those who know me well would be pretty surprised to hear me use this sort of language... but I just can't think of another way to say it: there's something intrinsically holy about Peter's performance in this video. I've seen it in other videos, too. He's worked hard on himself, the story is written in his music. And when he shares that with us... holy.

I think he got more energy out of that stage dive than the audience did, and they were *stoked*.

  • Crowd steals one shirt and tears up another, he has to be freed by security...

And he still gets back up bouncing and smiling and asking for more. What a consummate Goddamned performer!

  • really nice song.. it makes me feeling better...

David Copperfield used this song in one of his perfomance

  • C'EST ENORME !!!!!!!!

  • One of the great live performers I've ever seen. A true rock n roll treasure.

  • Quality! I was 2... yet even now i know it? odd... passion :)

  • Dear Peter,

If this message reaches you, i beg you on my bare knees; please, please, please release this on DVD. This is one of the best performances ever recorded in human history. I have this concert on VHS but it is completely worn out with hideous audio.

Please Peter, i beg you. I'll do whatever you want me to do in return. Paint your house, polish your shoes for the rest of your life. Anything at all !

Please give your thumbs for this message if you agree !

I remain hoping on a miracle.

  • @powermichiel cute...if PG responds, let me know...I can supplicate....

  • if someone has it can they PLEASE post the video of Peter doing this track with Daraa J at Womad two years ago. It was the absolute hightlight of the festival .

  • @powermichiel You're watching this now, on Youtube..you could very well burn it to disc with the right software. Why the drama? Oh........you're one of THOSE people. Ah.

  • Every time I view this video I am blown away. This is a true artist at his peak. His charisma hits a pitch that cannot be emulated by anyone. This is a man who incorporates mind, body, and spirit into every performance in a way that has never been matched. His manic emotion and brilliant mind transforms the medium of live performance into something almost spiritual. The level of faith and trust which mounted within him to prompt the drop into the crowd is spectacular to see. Most Excellent.

  • phil collins is way better

  • @KennyWorldshow Phil Collins is only "way better" if you're non-stop on a crack pipe. Let's not forget Phil Collins was the artist that felt the need to remake "You Can"t Hurry Love" by The Supremes. Ugh! When you look up artist in the dictionary you find Peter Gabriel's picture. But, to each his own.

  • If you think 5:46 to the end is silly or you just don't understand why people would act like that, then you have not had your soul roused sufficiently by live music and you should check yourself for a pulse as you may be dead.

  • @zippyman818 Yeah, kind of moving- for some reason...

  • @ArtsPatron2008 It is universally hypnotic, a quality that live performances have over a recording.

  • Peter is such an amazing musician and showman. But what really stuns me is that he never looks the same way twice! Like some kind of shape shifter! LOL! I could not pick him out of a crowd if he were standing next to me. One of the best concerts I have ever attended.

  • Insomma, ma quanti cantanti potrebbero fare una cosa del genere senza essere fagocitati dalla folla? Un pazzo? Un profeta? Un grande e spettacolare artista. Da sempre e ancora adesso!

  • Thanks so much for all your posting...

Never forgot this performance... in 1983, at France.

    .

  • @sutherGABland See hunkydorey2 he has the full video uploaded for POV concert.

Thank you for posting this memorable clip, I enjoyed watching it.

  • Sorry man, this show was in Athens in 1988...

  • @sutherGABland

This is Athens, Greece, September 1987.

  • @gmikro

You are quite right : This video (POV) was filmed at Athens (by Scorcese ?)

But the first time I saw him, his dive stage, and heard this song, was in live 1983.

    Sorry for my bad english.

  • @sutherGABland I had the pleasure and honour to be at his concert in Munich 83 and I belonged to those ones carrying him through the hall. It was a very deep and "touching" moment. Peter for sure is one of the greatest artist and human beings who found his way over the channel to us. May he live long and healthy.

  • Bad Ass!

  • You can gett this mp3 at ezmp3grab..com

  • mastermastermasterpiece.

  • Listen....

  • We pissed and moaned that we were behind the stage..Then we saw the setup and Peter sang to us half the time on a platform..He layed right out on the Worcester Centrum just like this and we had the best seats..Blew us away..5 encores to end with BIKO..Best concert, once in a lifetime

  • Most amazing song I have ever seen in concert

  • I honestly think that going to a Peter Gabriel concert will give you the ultimate experience of live/life! I have never seen anybody with his charisma on stage.

  • Peter Gabriel just got better and better...check the Milan performances. Very special artist. Many thanks for posting this, really an amazing video. Terrific stuff.

  • STILL AWSOME !!!!

  • i was at tht show and got to touch the great peter

  • @anksunamun1967 LOL! That sounds a bit naughty!!!

  • Love Peter Gabriel's voice

  • THANKS for uploading this video

Best regards from Mexico City . . .

  • the first time peter gabriel did that was with Genesis in a concert around 1970-71, and then nobody laid theirs hands on him, and the poor gabriel broke several of his bones...peter has been always that kind of artist that feels the music in a powerful way (like the lyrics of "the rythm of the heat")

  • Possibly the most epic crowd surf ever...

  • I wish I'd seen him way back then- but I was just a babe...

  • the best in the Universe

  • fantabuloso! This video has been my favourite for 20 years. forget technology, this is pure talent! Find better!

  • sublime!!....this and U2 at Live Aid are my two favorite performance ever!!

  • Comment removed

  • from one of the 10 greatest albums ever made

  • Wow!

  • And still your warmth flows through me, and I sense you know me well.

  • Years before anyone had ever heard of crowd surfing. I still get chills.

  • i think a lot of things of my life and the life of all... I Cry.

  • Apoteosico!

  • great

  • One of the most underrated performers of our time..

  • nice security era live video.

  • @coverchenko read that he had a boatload of these jackets made for this tour...just for this purpose. Remember seeing this tour at outdoor Ampitheatre in 1987.....AWESOME!

  • My musical taste started with PG and P. Hammill. VdGG, Genesis, Later The Police! King Crimson, Marillion, Rush, Japan, R.Fripp, B, Eno, H Budd, D. Sylvian, R.Sakamoto, P.Glass, M.Nyman, J.Cage,... Well, for me music is like air or water. I need it to survive in this strange and sometimes crazy world. Thanks Mr. Gabriel for teach me a musical way in my life. Music is wonderful, music heals!

  • Almost identical musical taste to me. Add Talk Talk, The Blue Nile and Thomas Dolby and we'd be twins !

  • My favourite song

  • the NEW Peter Gabriel album "SCRATCH MY BACK" - out middle of February in Europe and Canada, beginning of March in the USA : )

  • Luv the energy this song has, espicially towards the end.

  • awesome song, I love Peter Gabriel, I'm a fan since '86 and I'm a fan 4 life!!!

  • I will never forget this 1982 tour we passed him around he had a head set mic on but not in this vid and lost it he asked everyone to look for it one of the people with me found it on the floor and got to go up onstage and handed it to him! amazing artist and totally awesome show.

  • @THEPOCONOJOECHANNEL your joy is contagious...

  • PG is the best.

    A genious.

    At the top.

  • he is not in the yellow press, u never hear anything about him, but he is always busy and working on great projects and music, even if he is , well, ..."slowly" (or just carefull?) to release his efforts.....^^

  • @rula42

you can't really say "slowly", look at the amount of great songs and albums he released as a solo artist (not to mention his genesis efforts and the numerous soundtracks he made/worked on)...there is already enough PG around to last an eternity...but of course i hope there will be more...i am looking forward to "I/O" and some more great live performances...pity i am too young to experience sth. like this video...must have been awesome to see the 80s Gabriel live =(

  • I saw the Security tour back in the day. Watching this brought tears to my eyes. He is remarkable.

  • Astonishing!!!!

  • Peter Gabriel. What an amazing guy. have loved him since i was 14 and the more i know about him the more i admire him for everything he has done. recently watched some old footage of his genesis years and i was knocked out by how good they were. love his solo stuff too. thanks peter and thanks for posting this.

  • I will love this guy forever.

  • One of his best song (with "WHITE SHADOW") !

  • I always found it very moving that Peter risked going out onto the crowd. It was an important element in his live shows, and one that he refused to give up for a long time, even though those around him thought it was too dangerous. And it was, and I think he understood that. After all, this was the man who wrote a song about the assassination of JFK from the killer's perspective. A lot of darkness in his work. It made his trust all the more powerful. His shows from those days were unforgettable.

  • I could'nt agree more, he never stops too amaze me.............

    All heart

  • Fantastic Art Rock from Peter

  • wanted to hear the song again... oh,nice performance:) :) (have seen the same song live without the crowdsurfing)

  • f-kers ripped his shirt and took the other one. What's the matter with people? I would've just gone for the wallet.

  • @arpakyna Clever, my friend! :S

  • SICK!

  • This was a song used in one of David Copperfield's 80's magic specials.

  • essaydodger this is the track#6 of 4th Gabriel's album, called just "peter gabriel", known as "IV" or "security", maybe the best album of Gabriel, not very commercial but too too interesting and well well done!

  • thanks for that redmapp1. i've been singing this all day - im goin to have to buy it, i think!

  • yea its my favorite gabriel album

  • Most favourite, especially the track 'family and the...'. It was my thirth CD I bought, after PF's Animals (and Meddle my last LP) and Marillion's Script back at '86. And still one off my all time favourites, even after all the CD's I bought since then.

  • ho avuto l'onore di ascoltarla dal vivo... da brividi

  • does anyone know if this is available on any album??

  • the studio version is available on the fourth peter gabriel lp (shock the monkey, san jacinto ..) and on plays live... amazing artist

  • all the Peter :))

  • amazing! what a performer, wish i'd been there.

  • Bon Jovi's Lay Your Hands on Me is better. :U

  • for the layman

  • @MARIOFREAK821 It is great but this is fantastic.

  • I saw this tour, wish I had been at this show. This has to be the best video on youtube.

  • thanks for the video, happy to see Peter again

  • This video is mesmerizing. He has complete mastery over the audience.

  • He stopped crowd surfing when a fan in Germany came at him with a knife.

  • What year was that?

  • not sure, sorry.

  • 1987,i was there.

  • The song was written in 1982

  • I love music. . .many different artists and styles. . .but no other artist reaches my inner soul like Peter Gabriel! His music takes one to another dimension. . .brilliant! Thanks Peter and thanks for posting this amazing performance!

  • Still sends chills down my spine.....

  • I still have the POV tour on video somewhere. I grew up watching it. I can't find it on DVD though. I want to see it again. I watched it about 5 years ago or something, and it still had the same intensity as it did when I was young

  • love how he gets energised after the surfing - great stuff

  • wow! incredible!

  • Fantastic. Unbelievable. Beyond words.... With the dream team : Manu Katché and Tony Levin.

  • I totally agree with you !

  • @fenderjazz61 yeah, Manu has the touch and feel like noboby else. Perfect for the world music style Gabriel likes to do now and then.

  • @fenderjazz61 Too bad Larry Fast wasn't with him. He always added so much and yet so little! But David Sancious does a great job on this tour.

  • @fenderjazz61 Well said!

  • I remember that tour well, incomparable concert.

  • It`s hard to choose out a "PG-top-ten-list", but this one surely would find a place there - PURE EMOTION !

  • Man! How cool is that!

  • Bloody hell! An ex put this on a mixtape and I'd forgotten all about it, but wow, what a sexy song...Thanks for bringing back some pleasant memories!

  • I've attended this tour in Rome. Well, I've seen thousend of concerts, but I'll never forget that night.. all the times I come back here altought I have a POV vhs and all the times I'm hipnotized.

  • this guy is so cool !! and how do you say in english... he's very confident with the people, excuse my english, je veux dire qu'il faut etre confiant, mais en meme temps c'est beau !!

  • I guess to say that you could say, he has got great charisma.

  • The only other crowd surfing song that comes close is "Going Under" by Evanescence. Anyone know any others?

  • This is the best song I've ever listened to.

  • Absolutely amazing. Great song, and the performance makes it even better. To think, such a cool presentation towards the end, and with little help of lighting or video effects. Awesome.

    Gabes is the man.

  • I saw him on this tour. I was 19, and I had bought the "So" album, having only known "Shock the Monkey" prior. (I know, the shame.) But seriously... when he did this song and that stage dive, which i think he did at every show on the tour, it was absolutely electrifying. I've been a loyal fan for 21 years. Love Peter.

  • Lol, you too? That got me as well!!

  • I would be so scared to do that, of course some people had to ruin it and tear off his white shirt...I am suprised he wasn't totally naked by the time he got back up to the stage!

  • This "Lay your hands on me" video, was fillmed at Likavittos Hill, Athens, Greece.I was there that night and i was only 14...it was a 3000 volts feeling for us. The crowd was not interested to get him totally nude..Greeks respect Peter very muc....he admited it himself, while on stage that this is maybe the warmest audience he has ever played in front off....He was the artist who changed my point of view in music.THANK YOU PETER.

  • Thanks for the lyrics.Always thought he said "Could do without dust in your eye"!

  • Great to see this again. Went to the show when Security came out. Wish I'd been to the Lamb Lies Down tour too. That was my other favorite of his albums, but I was to young ..

  • if only PG could live forever. Imagine!

  • PG, the real artist and original bodysurfer! Todays music's only a lot of crap & pseudo artists, money reigns..

  • Excellent!

  • O MESTRE!!!!

  • This was the So Tour it blew me away for life!

  • Funny thing, Jon Bonjovi & Richie Sambora went to see him on this tour and just happened

to come up with a song with the same title!

Those Jersey boys couldn't come close to the master! Come on guys get real!

  • hmmm...Security is one of the greatest works ever in modern music and there are a lonely 15,000 views here. I would guess that Brittney has millions of views of her latest train wreck. Well, good for us for we keep it to ourselves. This is MAGIC. Thanks to Peter.

  • This is stunning. The prelude is so cool. Lay Your Hands On Me is not just PG uniting with mankind but is singing and hammering " Lay Your Hands On Me" by Manu, T. (god) Levin and mr. Rhodes. Respect. It will never b better. "I'm living way beyond my ways and means, living in the

    zone of the inbetweens"

  • Wow, what an incredible moment in rock history. Unforgettable...

  • Rock Stars is there anything better!

  • I watched the "So" tour behind the stage in 86...thought I had the worst seats...Not a chance...Greatest concert I have ever seen
