I'm only 17 years old and i love Peter Gabriel's music, although a lot of people don't understand it because I'm supposed to listen nowadays music which is very comercial.
@calebjoseph12 I'm 23 and I've loved this style of music since I was atLEAST 9 or so. Honestly, I've loved 80s music nearly my entire life, even though I was only 3 when they ended. I love pretty much any kind of music [including, yes, the much disdained rap & country], but I've always held 80s new wave at the top... well, right below Enya. Because has always been and most likely will forever be my absolute fave artist. Of course... her 80s work is perhaps my favorite... so there ya go. :^P
This is not a religious thing in the Christian sense people. He's pulling from the goddamn universe. You gotta be deeper than that. Gabriel is on a whole other level...
ugh religous comments -_- heres a new one. PRAISE SATIN. there now you know how it feels to be annoyed by religious comments that piss you off and have nothing to do with the music.

@powermichiel You're watching this now, on Youtube..you could very well burn it to disc with the right software. Why the drama? Oh........you're one of THOSE people. Ah.
Every time I view this video I am blown away. This is a true artist at his peak. His charisma hits a pitch that cannot be emulated by anyone. This is a man who incorporates mind, body, and spirit into every performance in a way that has never been matched. His manic emotion and brilliant mind transforms the medium of live performance into something almost spiritual. The level of faith and trust which mounted within him to prompt the drop into the crowd is spectacular to see. Most Excellent.
@KennyWorldshow Phil Collins is only "way better" if you're non-stop on a crack pipe. Let's not forget Phil Collins was the artist that felt the need to remake "You Can"t Hurry Love" by The Supremes. Peter is such an amazing musician and showman. But what really stuns me is that he never looks the same way twice! Like some kind of shape shifter! LOL! I could not pick him out of a crowd if he were standing next to me. One of the best concerts I have ever attended.
Insomma, ma quanti cantanti potrebbero fare una cosa del genere senza essere fagocitati dalla folla? Un pazzo? Un profeta? Un grande e spettacolare artista. Da sempre e ancora adesso!
@sutherGABland I had the pleasure and honour to be at his concert in Munich 83 and I belonged to those ones carrying him through the hall. It was a very deep and "touching" moment. Peter for sure is one of the greatest artist and human beings who found his way over the channel to us. May he live long and healthy.
We pissed and moaned that we were behind the stage..Then we saw the setup and Peter sang to us half the time on a platform..He layed right out on the Worcester Centrum just like this and we had the best seats..Blew us away..5 encores to end with BIKO..Best concert, once in a lifetime
I honestly think that going to a Peter Gabriel concert will give you the ultimate experience of live/life! I have never seen anybody with his charisma on stage.
I honestly think that going to a Peter Gabriel concert will give you the ultimate experience of live/life! I have never seen anybody with his charisma on stage.
Peter Gabriel just got better and better...check the Milan performances. Very special artist. Many thanks for posting this, really an amazing video. Terrific stuff.
the first time peter gabriel did that was with Genesis in a concert around 1970-71, and then nobody laid theirs hands on him, and the poor gabriel broke several of his bones...peter has been always that kind of artist that feels the music in a powerful way (like the lyrics of "the rythm of the heat")
@coverchenko read that he had a boatload of these jackets made for this tour...just for this purpose. Remember seeing this tour at outdoor Ampitheatre in 1987.....AWESOME!
My musical taste started with PG and P. Hammill. VdGG, Genesis, Later The Police! King Crimson, Marillion, Rush, Japan, R.Fripp, B, Eno, H Budd, D. Sylvian, R.Sakamoto, P.Glass, M.Nyman, J.Cage,... Well, for me music is like air or water. I need it to survive in this strange and sometimes crazy world. Thanks Mr. Gabriel for teach me a musical way in my life. Music is wonderful, music heals!
I will never forget this 1982 tour we passed him around he had a head set mic on but not in this vid and lost it he asked everyone to look for it one of the people with me found it on the floor and got to go up onstage and handed it to him! amazing artist and totally awesome show.
he is not in the yellow press, u never hear anything about him, but he is always busy and working on great projects and music, even if he is , well, ..."slowly" (or just carefull?) to release his efforts.....^^
you can't really say "slowly", look at the amount of great songs and albums he released as a solo artist (not to mention his genesis efforts and the numerous soundtracks he made/worked on)...there is already enough PG around to last an eternity...but of course i hope there will be more...i am looking forward to "I/O" and some more great live performances...pity i am too young to experience sth. like this video...must have been awesome to see the 80s Gabriel live =(
Peter Gabriel. What an amazing guy. have loved him since i was 14 and the more i know about him the more i admire him for everything he has done. recently watched some old footage of his genesis years and i was knocked out by how good they were. love his solo stuff too. thanks peter and thanks for posting this.
I always found it very moving that Peter risked going out onto the crowd. It was an important element in his live shows, and one that he refused to give up for a long time, even though those around him thought it was too dangerous. And it was, and I think he understood that. After all, this was the man who wrote a song about the assassination of JFK from the killer's perspective. A lot of darkness in his work. It made his trust all the more powerful. His shows from those days were unforgettable.
essaydodger this is the track#6 of 4th Gabriel's album, called just "peter gabriel", known as "IV" or "security", maybe the best album of Gabriel, not very commercial but too too interesting and well well done!
Most favourite, especially the track 'family and the...'. It was my thirth CD I bought, after PF's Animals (and Meddle my last LP) and Marillion's Script back at '86. And still one off my all time favourites, even after all the CD's I bought since then.
I love music. . .many different artists and styles. . .but no other artist reaches my inner soul like Peter Gabriel! His music takes one to another dimension. . .brilliant! Thanks Peter and thanks for posting this amazing performance!
I still have the POV tour on video somewhere. I grew up watching it. I can't find it on DVD though. I want to see it again. I watched it about 5 years ago or something, and it still had the same intensity as it did when I was young
I've attended this tour in Rome. Well, I've seen thousend of concerts, but I'll never forget that night.. all the times I come back here altought I have a POV vhs and all the times I'm hipnotized.
this guy is so cool !! and how do you say in english... he's very confident with the people, excuse my english, je veux dire qu'il faut etre confiant, mais en meme temps c'est beau !!
Absolutely amazing. Great song, and the performance makes it even better. To think, such a cool presentation towards the end, and with little help of lighting or video effects. Awesome.
I saw him on this tour. I was 19, and I had bought the "So" album, having only known "Shock the Monkey" prior. (I know, the shame.) But seriously... when he did this song and that stage dive, which i think he did at every show on the tour, it was absolutely electrifying. I've been a loyal fan for 21 years. Love Peter.
I would be so scared to do that, of course some people had to ruin it and tear off his white shirt...I am suprised he wasn't totally naked by the time he got back up to the stage!
I saw Peter perform this stunt at the Cincinnati gardens on this tour. Still sends shivers up my spine.
wastingtime2day, it was 1982 and we were civilized back then. Even the mosh pits at hardcore punk shows (where I pretty much lived at the time) had a great deal of camaraderie and we would never have even thought about deliberately hurting each other. IMO it wasn't until the early 90's that the grunge scene and testosterone filled frat boys made moshing into a lethal activity.
This "Lay your hands on me" video, was fillmed at Likavittos Hill, Athens, Greece.I was there that night and i was only 14...it was a 3000 volts feeling for us. The crowd was not interested to get him totally nude..Greeks respect Peter very muc....he admited it himself, while on stage that this is maybe the warmest audience he has ever played in front off....He was the artist who changed my point of view in music.THANK YOU PETER.
Great to see this again. Went to the show when Security came out. Wish I'd been to the Lamb Lies Down tour too. That was my other favorite of his albums, but I was to young ..
hmmm...Security is one of the greatest works ever in modern music and there are a lonely 15,000 views here. I would guess that Brittney has millions of views of her latest train wreck. Well, good for us for we keep it to ourselves. This is MAGIC. Thanks to Peter.
This is stunning. The prelude is so cool. Lay Your Hands On Me is not just PG uniting with mankind but is singing and hammering " Lay Your Hands On Me" by Manu, T. (god) Levin and mr. Rhodes. Respect. It will never b better. "I'm living way beyond my ways and means, living in the

Most favourite, especially the track 'family and the...'. It was my thirth CD I bought, after PF's Animals (and Meddle my last LP) and Marillion's Script back at '86. And still one off my all time favourites, even after all the CD's I bought since then.

I still have the POV tour on video somewhere. I grew up watching it. I can't find it on DVD though. I want to see it again. I watched it about 5 years ago or something, and it still had the same intensity as it did when I was young

I totally agree with you !

@fenderjazz61 yeah, Manu has the touch and feel like noboby else. Perfect for the world music style Gabriel likes to do now and then.
cyberwing777 1 year ago
@fenderjazz61 Too bad Larry Fast wasn't with him. He always added so much and yet so little! But David Sancious does a great job on this tour.

It`s hard to choose out a "PG-top-ten-list", but this one surely would find a place there - PURE EMOTION !

The only other crowd surfing song that comes close is "Going Under" by Evanescence. Anyone know any others?

Absolutely amazing. Great song, and the performance makes it even better. To think, such a cool presentation towards the end, and with little help of lighting or video effects. Awesome.

I saw him on this tour. I was 19, and I had bought the "So" album, having only known "Shock the Monkey" prior. (I know, the shame.) But seriously... when he did this song and that stage dive, which i think he did at every show on the tour, it was absolutely electrifying. I've been a loyal fan for 21 years. Love Peter.

Lol, you too? That got me as well!!
Darkmind1970 2 years ago
I would be so scared to do that, of course some people had to ruin it and tear off his white shirt...I am suprised he wasn't totally naked by the time he got back up to the stage!

This has been flagged as spam show
I saw Peter perform this stunt at the Cincinnati gardens on this tour.

Funny thing, Jon Bonjovi & Richie Sambora went to see him on this tour and just happened
to come up with a song with the same title!
Those Jersey boys couldn't come close to the master! Come on guys get real!

hmmm...Security is one of the greatest works ever in modern music and there are a lonely 15,000 views here.

"I'm living way beyond my ways and means, living in the
zone of the inbetweens"
