  • these sounds are so fucking awesome xD.

  • @SHODANFan they cant make a ss3. EA owns the rights to the franchise and

i dont see them giving it up anytime soon. Besides, the system shock community isnt that big like deus ex or half life. The closest thing to a ss3 is dead space

  • my #1 game of all time! fantastic atmosphere. todays games suck compared to system shock. fancy graphics but zero gameplay, crap story. too bad LG went bankrupt

  • I think you should turn on anti-aliasing and physX lol

  • lol dear GOD what a mess. This hasn't aged well at ALL!

  • they should totaly remake this with better graphics (thats IT.)

cuz i mean. I love these games but it would be funner with better graphics. and you cant say no to that.

  • @Pieperson277 I got the tools and the time.. I think I'm trolling a little here but I'm still trying to make a point and show that this is not an impossibility with noone wanting to do it. I am already attempting Myst and System Shock 2 in Source...

  • This game feels a bit dated, but System Shock 2 is still as great as the day it was made, plus there are still mods being made that update the graphics.

  • And now AeroShock. I mean Bioshock infinite. Whoopsie

  • This would be great if 2k(I'm assuming they were part of the original development team, if I'm wrong correct me) remade this for modern systems, the game looks amazing(the story at least) but the controls seem a bit awkward, and it's difficult to find any legal copies of it to buy.(I realize there is ebay and the like, but you don't know what you're really going to get, the game could be broken or have some other problem you're unaware of.)

  • @TheOblivionCrew

I completely agree. The storyline of 'System Shock' is intriguing, and Shodan is an astonishing villain (I won't say she's better than GlaDos; both are unique and sinister in their own way). With modern visuals and a user-friendly control scheme, the game would rock!

  • @Morrowinda

Remaking this title with a modern (ie PLAYABLE) control scheme would hardly dumb it down, especially if you maintain the quality writing and voice acting. It'll never happen, so all we can do is speculate.

  • @YoknapatawphaKid

The typical next-gen graphics whore bottom feeding maggot has all the games from 2005-20XX to choose from. Let them enjoy these pathetic new games. The original SS has a legacy of challenging controls and obscure graphics that add to the atmosphere of the game. Plus I would hate to see a streamlined remake being tossed around by scene kids. What we need is a SS3 not a overhauled SS.

  • @Morrowinda

Somehow, your previous comments, libelous as they were, have been deleted (though I'll get to cherish them forever through my inbox), but your last comment says as much — allow to set the record straight and utterly demolish all of your presumptions. I am by no means a conventional gamer. I'm more apt to spend my time playing 'Chrono Trigger,' 'Grim Fandango,' 'Earthbound,' 'Half-Life 2,' and the like than 'Halo' or 'COD,' which are unreal pieces of shit.

  • @YoknapatawphaKid

So why are you calling for a remake that would most likely feature next gen controls in the style of the source engine which would utterly change the pace of the game and turn it into a fast paced popamole?

You do know that the classic controls s serve more than the purpose of a floating gun. They set the pace of the game in many ways more than one. But, are you sure you want to make the SS series a sellout to this generation of weeaboos? Or as a SS fan, are you that insecure?

  • @YoknapatawphaKid

Now that I established my point, might I suggest that next time, mention games that are relevant to the style of gameplay at hand. Citing classic games of irrelevant genre that are more than worth living for and praising them for the sake of self glorification is just a waste of energy.

  • @Morrowinda

So, please do me the favor of not equating me with the litany of brain-dead gamers who have all but destroyed the industry; it demeans us both. Now, that being said, it's still a ridiculous argument to defend the frustrating controls of a game as "part of the legacy." Is 'Grim Fandango' a masterpiece? YES. The writing is some of the most clever of the '90s, regardless of medium; however, is it a difficult game to control, and would modern controls better the experience? YES.

  • @YoknapatawphaKid

"YES" sounds pretty vague to me. Be a bit more explicit if you want your argument to hold ground. You think that modern popamole system would preserve the pace that the story is being told...SS is a game driven by tedious exploration in a setting that demands repetition and patience. The way the controls are implemented wherein the character controls the reticle without affecting the movements constitutes an important aspect to the pace of the game.

  • Halo brought us Chuck Norris too.

  • Whats with the weapons in this game? Is it that time consuming to switch between them?

  • @tHecOmMeNtErSrEtUrN

    LOL nice troll.

  • @tHecOmMeNtErSrEtUrN: Yeah, it's pretty funny but some people really think that way. Sometimes console FPS community makes me feel like Halo influenced every possible FPS game out there (even on PC).. And ofcourse Halo also influenced such wannabe shooties like Doom, Quake 2, Half-Life, Deus Ex, System Shock etc.

  • @Mii85 don't forget castle wofenstien, thats another one halo inspired.

  • @tHecOmMeNtErSrEtUrN Halo also created me.If it was not for Halo,i would not have been conceived.

  • PC owns consoles cause it has emulators :D

  • these graphics are much better then those of doom

  • Heh :D I'm depressed now that I didn't play this game like 10 years ago because it looks horrendous now... I remember back then that I thought Doom's graphic was top-notched :(.

  • @xbriannova I played it for the first time a year or so ago. You get used to the graphics and the controls after a little while (get system shock portable with mouselook!). After that your imagination kicks in and it's just pure awesome.

  • @RiNSpy SSPortable is great! I actually liked the 1. SS much more 'cause of the more compact station like design. But the controls are really reeeally bad :D (still a much better game than Bioshock^^)

  • pc games use to own console games, now most pc games are just lame ass fucking console ports

  • That's true, but old games like System Shock still own newer games on any platform in my opinion.

  • Thats because the went for story and gameplay not how awesome it looks. XD

  • there are a few good titles although i dont particularly like cod4 multiplayer coz of nade spam

  • Oh my God, that is impressive of how old the game is, and how far we come. What year was this released?

  • This game is soo ancient.

I want to play this games but it cant be bought anywhere.

  • The only way to get them is downloading via BitTorrent.

  • its abandonware, google search it and you can dload it :) i just started playing it tonight and its amazing

    deff way before its time

  • Don't let this video decide it for you, go and have a look at Naco2k's commentary on SS1.

In comparison, the quality of this video is terrible - not to mention it's been recorded at 0 level difficulty, so the enemies do nothing, and are weak as hell!

  • what is the name of the music at the start when he opens up the door

  • It's just the generic elevator music.

  • This is gameplay from second level of Citadel station.

  • what level is this?

  • Like Radard2 said, Level 2.

It's specifically the Science Labs, or research areas.

  • What decadence! You wasted a Magnum round on a box!

  • Shodan had a very scary face :(

  • It's not about "configuring the game to work with controllers", it's about seriously degrading the game's story, graphics and level design because of hardware limitations (mostly an issue with older consoles) such as memory constraints and CPU and graphics chip speed, as well as making the game a lot simpler by devices like auto-aiming and dumber AI.

Console ports are dumbed down. It's not about needing to feel superior, it's a cold hard fact.

  • Its true I hear that Pc gaming argument all the time, Listen I've been a pc gamer and console gamer from the very start, and for a long time this argument was true(pc games better/graphics storyline than con) up until about 3 years ago when the current gen consoles came out. Before that Pc's hardware was sooo much more powerful and capable than consoles and the average age was 16-28+. Now its a whole new gen making games and most are coming out on consoles , = a bitter[:*(pc fanboy it a $ issue

  • No, PC's are still superior. Your just stating that finally people are actually satisfied the way things look now. It doesn't put the PC and Consoles on par with each other whats so ever.

  • The fact is PC gaming is not commercial because the industry went console and dumbed down games that PC gamers refused to buy, so sales went down and publishers blamed piracy and so we get much fewer PC games, and those we do are console conversions that we buy less of....... etc etc. I.E. Alpha Protocol is a 25 hour RPG. Yes, that's right - a 25 hour RPG!!!!

  • pc may be superior but i think its a dumb idea to spend $6,000 on a computer that does the same thing the ps3 does. or the xbox for that matter. the pc was never ment to be solely for video games, and the market sucks because not everyone has the money to dish out for a video card that costs the same amount as a whole xbox 360

  • Its a common misconception that you have to spend 6,000$ just to play games on par with PS3 or 360.

I can make a $300 comp that can play games on par to said consoles and do everything that a comp can do, including emulating other consoles.

You also stated the market sucks, but you don't realize that the PC market for gaming is still the biggest market in the world.

  • yea, you can spend $300 on a computer, then turn around and have to dump another $300 into it six months later because it wont run anything. i dont necessairly think pc is worse then consoles, i just hate the endless money pit they create, and thats if none of your parts go bad or burn up trying to run some of these games.

i also dont understand how pc gaming can be the biggiest gaming market in the world. have you ever been to gamestop or eb games? they have like 1 shelf of new pc games

  • More misconceptions. You don't have to dump another $300. Future games will always support older software. Its no different than consoles. If you don't want new hardware, then so what? The games will always support older hardware, just like consoles. Its only a money pit if you are an idiot that just has to buy the latest and greatest hardware. I'm still using my two year old laptop to play the latest games. Just is just about the same age as the PS3 and 360.

  • Now about gamestop. Gamestop is a console store, not a pc game store. Selling games is an afterthought. i would know, I worked at Electronic Botique and Gamestop.

Why would you sell games that require you to go somewhere else to by the hardware to play it. Gamestop doesn't sell computers. Think about it. If you bought a PS3 game, and don't have a PS3. You can buy the PS3 right there. You can't do the same for PC games.

  • There are about 1000 games released for the PC every month, each compatible on all computers because there is no region restriction.

This number also doesn't count for all the free games released on the PC. Also, PC games are cheaper than the bloated console brothers and sisters. You can sell your game half off as a deal just because you can. I can buy Street Fighter IV for 19.99 brand new as one of the Steam deals. Plus, I can use the X360 controller on my PC for it and many other games.

  • i have never in my life seen a pc game store, and theres hardly 1000s of games a month coming out for pc every month that are worth playing. peggle and zuma hardly count lol

  • So I take it you haven't been to Best Buy, Target, and pretty much every other general tech stores? They usually have tons of games to buy.

Also, Peggle and Zuma came out last year. I would classify that has coming out this month or the last. There are about 15 adventure games that come out a month. 200+ casual games.

The point is, there are more games coming out for the PC than consoles.

Keep digging yourself a hole dude. Your fanboyism is starting to stink up the place.

  • i never said i was a fanboy im just stating a point, your the only fanboy as far as i can tell. i said so myself that i enjoy pc games, the vast majority of the mare garbage, just as every consoles releases are garbage. im not saying ones better then the other

FACT: pcs are NOT just as cheap as a console no matter what you state. anyone who says otherwise obviously dosnt know anything about PC's

seriously, who the hell wants to play a "casual" game? i dont mind every once n a while but im

  • not paying $20-30 for a game i can complete in an hour.

and no matter what you state i also know it for a fact that the PC game market IS declining and consoles are starting to take over. If things are going as you say why the hell would microsoft make its own console if its already making computers?

in your own words "Keep digging yourself a hole dude. Your fanboyism is starting to stink up the place."

  • You have proven my point. You stated a lie as a fact.

  • how is anything i said a lie? just stating its a lie because it inconviencies you dosnt mean anything.

and just out of curiosity how many of those games at best buy and all these other stores have ANY pc games that have sold well at ALL? mabye less then 5% of the total games.

I have been researching this for a couple of years as i am getting ready to go into the gaming industry, just keep living in your little farce fanboy, mabye some day your pcs glory days will come back.

  • FYI, I've been apart of the industry for 2 years. The main reason why you can't seem to find information that I'm stating mainly lies on the fact that gaming is sold digitally now. Steam, BigFish, etc. Looking at the monthly NPD doesn't provide factual information across the board. It only records PC games sold at Retail. It doesn't record digital distribution, except for the Console Market Place.

Redo your research. Casual Gaming is the place to be right now.

  • so what, like 3 companies do this and it makes the pc industry a success? i fail to see the logic

  • All these companies do is present a viable platform to distribute games.

Since you fail to see the logic in Digital Distribution and how that improves sales, then you aren't ready for the industry. This is my last post.

  • agreed. neither is superior to the other, and PCs were never ment for games in the first place. these people drive me fucking insane. fanboys need to grow up. theres good on every console if your willing to foot the bill for it.

  • its ok their just trying to make their e-penis bigger

  • lmao

  • This game definitely needs to be remade.

  • Its true that Bioshock may look slightly better than System shock, but both are a hrill to play.

  • Yeah yeah... go back to playing Bioshock on full detail. >_>

  • Man, not realizing that this game is nearly two decades old, you suck turds.

  • *shakes head*they didnt have the damn technology to make graphics back then like BioShock idiot...

  • Bioshock isn't anywhere as good as Half Life 2. They had graphics BETTER than Bioshock BEFORE Bioshock was even an idea.

SS3 should use the Source engine :D

  • if ss3 uses soucre there gonna be problems with me and the developer, i mean it just wouldnt work, the feel would be totallly different

  • No it wouldn't. The feel is created by the art director. Not the engine. If they wanted the same feel as system shock, then they will get the same feel. Engine has nothing to do with it.

  • Are you retarded? What did you expect from a game 3 times as old as you

  • Google 'System Shock Portable', download it, and play this game on XP at 1024x768, just like I am right now (and having a total blast that is as good as any modern game like Bioshock!) :)

  • Man, I've spent _hours_ in those elevators just to calm down.

    Ah, sweet memories.

  • theres nothing quite like standing in the elevator and listening to all your data logs

  • they should do wat the orange box did and put tis and ss2 on a the disc for the console, tell the makers to do it

  • i dont think that they have time for that. they are bissy whith creating Deus ex 3 at the moment.

  • And a console port of SS and SS 2 would be Bioshock all over again.

They'd have to dumb every single thing they did right with SS so it appeals to the console market. Shameful, really.

  • Looks like a pretty good game considering the graphics are bad.

  • it was made in 1991 i think, so dont trash the graphics

  • 1994

  • can't trash the graphics but you have to admit they're bad but its a badass game neverthless

  • not bad at all concerning the graphics. the graphics were revolutionary. i'm amazed how good this game actually looks if you consider it was made in '94 :)

well, there's no polygon models, but this was usual at that time, and the graphics are very detailed, colorful and varied.

  • well yes that is true but i was referring to todays graphics which really is unfair so you have a point

  • I rememeber playing this on a turbo machine in the dark at night and ahving to go to school the next morning, I love this game so much

  • This was a game before it's time.

  • to bad that i didnt played SS1 but SS2 was a game!!!!!!! Whatever, any game maked by Looking Glass entertaiment was a 100% hit!

Thief1,2 SS 1,2 THose games have super magicall atmosphere!!! and are spooky too..

  • wow the graphics looks good even today

  • What?!

Dude, I love retro games to pieces but even I have to admit this game looks like ass. Hell, it plays great, but it's hardly a looker.

  • Erhm... Not really...

  • uhmm.... right sure... if you say so.

  • Excellent game.

    My favorite classic DOS game.

  • i've never played the prequell to SS2 <-- <3.. this must be hard as hell to beat.. the game, that is.. :P

  • Wow, playing with both plot and enemies set to zero. What a real hero ;)

System Shock is probably the greatest game ever made.

  • Games like this are why I keep old computers around...

  • By the way, this looks like it is in 320x200 mode, the lowest, and there are a lot more sound effects than I can here here, so if you download it from strangebedefellows be prepared to be shocked at how much better it looks and sounds than this - no disrespect!

  • If you wan to play this fantastic game in glorious 1024x768 the go to strangebedfellows dot de (it's in English!)all the info/downloads required are on the one page and the instructions are easy! This game in 1024 just rocks totally, would need to go forwar a few years to Half Life and System Shock 2 to see it's EQUALS (nothing's BETTER IMHO!)

  • I think this is the Science labs level, right? =D Also, the elevator music is probably the best in the game. Nice Post! : )

  • I own a totally badass super computer. But i mostly use it for DOS games!!! It's pure gaming love, man!

  • brings back memories

  • Amazing game. I highly recommend it.

But I gotta ask, what is wrong with your computer? Mine runs much better than that.

  • Probly DOSbox. Its really not that great of an emulator.

  • It's better than it used to be...

If you have a creative sound card, and a floppy drive, the best thing is to just run this game from pur DOS mode with an old gaming boot disk.

  • There is nothing wrong with it, hes probly using DOSbox, and there airnt many computers that can rune DOSbox at full speed.

  • Ah sytem shock CD quelle superbe jeu. Et la musique d'ascenseur si apésante.

  • AH system shock CD et sa musique d'ascenseur apésante...

Dommage que le sound est un peu décaler par rapport a l'image.

  • wow that actually looks fun

  • It is fun, but can be frustrating at times when you get lost, and you get lost a LOT. PM me if you want to find a copy of the game.

  • LOL tell me bout it its was freaken sweet though. Speaking of which where can i find a copy of this game for Windows? my mac already is too old to play this game anymore =(

  • Check the website "Home of the Underdogs".

  • the owner of that site is going to turn it into a wiki, hurry up everyone

  • yeah I think it was put on easy... but it's to demonstrate the game

  • Nice vid but its kinda dark, and slow, and did you have teh game on braindead difficulty? But anyways, sood vid.
