HERE'S SOMETHING SHADIER THAN SCIENTOLOGY: Did you know that when you post a comment on a Youtube video that it doesn't necessarily appear unless you are signed in and the video channel hasn't blocked it? What this means is, you may THINK your comments are gettting through, but there is no way to test it unless you can go downtown and use the library computer to see if your comments are appearing. THAT is WORSE than Scientology!!!! It's not only more pointless than Scientology; it's MEANER!!
Religion has always been a shady business, a way to pick your pocket or make you worship your leaders. Jesus said so. So did Buddha, just as a matter of form while he went around looking for the elements of a state religion to establish in his kingdom of Burma. However, religion is great exercise for the mind because its very prohibitions against using the mind are what make you crave mental activity. Some folks derive no benefit, lacking minds in the first place, and become zombies.
I am not a Scientologist to my knowledge and this video dims what little respect I've sustained for the Amazing Randi. I have researched the kinds of things Scientology teaches and Scientology is not alone in teaching those teachings. Scientology either works or it doesn't. It's like a Ford. It's got gimmicks and some clear pieces of fraud such as its own admission there are some people it can't or won't help for ANY amount of money. But for driving around town, it's probably okay.
The CofS can still stay afloat if it drops all litigation as plaintiff, donate to schools with money shortages, and give away books like Problems of Work and New Slant On Life to people who go to their Sunday services. Donations to zoos and involvement in litter cleanup efforts would be greatly appreciated too. - sincerely, the new president of Scientology 2013
@willdrake1 yes i have but unfortunately it is unproven and unlikely as many people who were close to hubbard spoke that he was motivated by money, there is also a document released by cia were he discussed to the recipient that he was setting the church as a sort of business
Our senses and light impressing them creates our reality ... all 5 senses are designed to receive, they cannot do anything else, so they always get the same results ... but if a human were to change his Quality, Purpose, and Intention toward everything, he would have then annulled his nature and can gain knowledge of whats been hidden (other dimension/spiritual upper structure) the thought begins in the upper and manifests in the lower thru our 5 senses ... we cannot change a thing.
@alexwolff1990 James Randi, Bill Maher, Chris Hitchens, Richard Dawkins and Albert Einstein at one end of the scale. Tom Cruise, Ray Comfort, Bill O'Reilly, Tony Blair and Sarah Palin at the other.
Assertions made without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. It seems that every faith tells people, you need to believe this stuff before you can "know it to be true." That's how they get people to take the battery out of their instinctual bull shit detector and support priests and other religious institutions.
Given randi's ability to rewrite his own personal history (just like hubbard), peppering it with anecdotes that never occurred and laying personal claim to a huge variety of Churchillisms, I would strongly doubt (without a genuine film-processed photo) that randi ever met hubbard. For him to say that hubbard was truly unlikeable (while accurate) is probably not from his first hand experience but hearsay. Visit the JREF forum and see how many cult-minded acolytes hang on his every word.
Does anyone else find it ironic that the Co$ is at a conference called 'CULTinfo'? Did they think it was a place share and learn about advances in creating and maintaing cults?
@thecodewerks You may be aware that Co$ has completely appropriated the Cult Awareness Network, and it is in their interests to appropriate such other groups as well in an effort to extinguish the word cult.
@RoyalPrinceXenu You'll note that the Scn said that hubbard wrote the material (Dianetics), but that others actually formed the church. Bite my shiny metal ass! There is paperwork showing that hubbard wanted the religion angle for financial gain and to reduce government scrutiny.
Damn right Randi's dismissing the subject, if somebody told you by jumping out of an airplane with no parachute and just flapping your arms you could fly and "don't say this is wrong without testing it" you'd dismiss it as stupid too.
Here's a scenario.... Some wierdo comes up to you and asks you to read a book on his religion based on and idolising the dog turd. Wouldn't you dismiss him? I would - I'd also dismiss Scientology... Same difference - it's all a lot of shit.
This is always what happens when intelligent atheists becom well known. Theists of all sorts are always coming up and saying YOU HAVE to debate with me. It happens all the time with creationists.
But as dawkins says, it's a akin to a flat-earth theorist demanding a geologist debate with them.....
So basically, they walked up to Dr Randi whilst he was eating a meal and started insisting that he scrutinize Scientology? Other than being rude, what did they hope to achieve?
This is so rude. I don't agree with Randi very much but harassing like this while he is trying to have a nice meal with colleagues is just inappropriate. I agree with the top comment just let the guy relax and enjoy his meal.
I HAVE read Dianetics. I said it once, right after I finished the book and I'll say it until the day I die. Almost every page in that thing sounds like the paranoid ravings of a god damn speed freak. I don't see how anyone, let alone James Randi, could be convinced by such an ill written, poorly conceived, and in some places anti-gay, rant. But I'm sure an OT could show me how I'm just ill informed about all that.
@OrthodoxDarwinist Wow. No I didn't. I was working closely with a Supervisor who used a lot of Meth, they had already fired her before I picked up Dianetics. The book sounded just like her. As I recall, I passed it around to several of my co-workers. I don't remember anyone who didn't think it was a pretty sad little tome. In fact, certain "Scientology phrases" became a running joke with us. From what I can gather, we were pretty lucky. Thanks for the update.
Yep and the teachings of scientology and past lives comes from when Ron Hubbard decided to feed his son a monumental amount of amphetamines until he started to talk about when he was a primordial clam. It mentions all this in his biography, lol. What a freak.
Every scientologist is a fucking idiot enough said...the fat bastard himself L ron hubbard said he made the religion as a joke to see how many dumbshits would actually follow it.

How about taking NO for a fucking answer? It's like okay, you can ask once, but if they say they're not interested, then GTFO. It's like if a Jehovah's witnesses knocked on your door and when you said "sorry not interested" they stuck their foot in the door and won't leave you alone. Once someone says "go away" but you continue to pester them, that's called harassment. I guess Scientology wouldn't know the difference.
james randi is a legend. he knows your religion is fake because he IS god. seriously, that dude hasn't aged since at least the invention of the video camera.
Randi's far too nice of a guy. Random man walks up, asks him to look at something that he thinks is important, Randi isn't interested for whatever reason, man says he's not being consistent. Who the crap is this guy and why does he think he has a right to dictate what the man should do with his time. I'm surprised no one at the table stood up and said "Sir, you're being a douche, please leave."
When I started watching this I was SO CONFUSED as to why Mark Bunker was helping somebody ambush James Randi in an attempt to pressure him into investigating Scientology. Don't be like me, kids. Read the video description before watching.
