I think the best way to look at this issue as to whether Alexander is Greek or not is to think of a modern day analogy, like Scotland. It's part of the U.K, but isn't technically English. However, the two areas share culture, probably the way Greece and Macedon did. I think Macedon can be considered part of the Greek world and was very heavily influenced by Greece, but was not entirely Greek either.

Macedonia is loosely Greek at best. In Ancient times, it is not known if they were ethnically Greek, closely related or distantly related. Culturally they were distinct yet Hellenic and after the conquest and absorption of the city-states into Phillip and Alexander's empire they were certainly more Greek than not.

I think the best way to look at this issue as to whether Alexander is Greek or not is to think of a modern day analogy, like Scotland. It's part of the U.K, but isn't technically English. However, the two areas share culture, probably the way Greece and Macedon did. I think Macedon can be considered part of the Greek world and was very heavily influenced by Greece, but was not entirely Greek either.

@ChaosDynamics Macedonia was a state of ancient Greece, nowadays remains one of Greece’s regions and populated from Greek peoples; the last few years after the break-up of Yugoslavia a new country popped and tries to get a name that connect them with ancient roots.
Anyway, don't mix sugar and salt, the new Macedonia is a Slavic state that has nothing to do with ancient Macedonia, any more than New Guinea in Ocean Pacific related to Guinea in Africa.

Macedonia is loosely Greek at best. In Ancient times, it is not known if they were ethnically Greek, closely related or distantly related. Culturally they were distinct yet Hellenic and after the conquest and absorption of the city-states into Phillip and Alexander's empire they were certainly more Greek than not.

Alexander died 32. He managed only 13 years.

Αλέξανδρος or Alexander is a greek name. Derives from ancient greek verb: αλέξω (protect) + ανήρ (man) and means: He who protects his men.
Btw many ancient greek words are used today from ancient times. In the case of αλέξω we use it today for: Αλεξίσφαιρο (bulletproof best) meaning: that which protects from bullets.

There is way too much literature to suggest he was Greek. So i believe it.
To the doubters: You could only wish you had the history of the Greeks.
Even if Alexander was not greek, he adopted Greek principles and was taught by Greeks. Even he knew how greatness was to be achieved.
You lose the basis of the arguement either way.
