  • @Piano316James At the time I was switching from Shake to Nuke for compositing. The roto work was done in Mocha and the set extension was put together in Photoshop.

I'd say the general things about masking are: track the masks any time that's possible (planar tracking is often the most useful for masking people); when masking complex shapes (like bodies in motion) use multiple simple shapes (limbs, torso, head, costume pieces, gear, etc) rather than a single mask for all; pay attention to the edge feathering or motion blur; put keyframes that match the beginning and end of a movement, then add more as needed, less is more.

    casperisl, thanks, this was a quick test done as i was about to be involved in a project. there were over a dozen similar shots i worked on in the few months after this but haven't had the time to update a reel lately
