  • man that was sweet love em all, but especially the second and third

  • yeah, keep on this way !

  • You give me inspiration :)

  • They are all superb! One thing I do miss is a few years back where you'd sample each drum sound as aposed to playing it in real-time. I didn't realise it at the time but It really did give your music an entirely different characteristic. However, I also love the direction of your latest album. I understand from here on you're taking a more 'rock' approach. Which I anticipate aswell!

  • I REALLY like the one at 0:50. Well done!

  • Please make a long version of all these Tracks!Great!

  • Jack is insanely talented. Who the hell gave this a thumbs down?

  • What program do you use to record, edit, and mix?

  • Absolutely loving the 2nd groove.

  • it's like a riff-off, against yourself

  • Great riffs All of them are great the keyboard and feel of the fourth riff reminds me alot of everlasting Light by the black keys from the same album jack was listening too i can see the Heavy influence in the sound awesome all the way through :P

  • U should make these into actual songs

  • I can hear Black Keys in the second one, and the fourth reminds me a lot of Everlasting Light. Love that album, these are some great grooves, keep it up!

  • Everytime good work! If you like the Sound of the Black keys "Brothers", check out Jamie Lidell "Jim". His Music is exzellent, like yours.

  • 0:50 what time signature is that?

  • @faveladoboy 4/4 + 7/8

  • @faveladoboy 3 measures of 4/4, one measure of 3/4, repeat.

  • Groove number 4 at 1:13 really gets me flying =D Jack is the best !!!!!

  • All good songs :) That third one (my favourite) sounded like Audioslave/Rage against the Machine :D Here's an idea, how about making an album made up entirely of instrumentals, including the three songs in this video? Then of course if someone else wants to add their own vocals to any of the songs.....

  • lenny kravits plays like you from .50 - 1.12.

    diggin' it jack.

  • 0:51.

this one is just pure genius.

  • The second one kind of reminds me of "Beat the Horse" (my favorite Pomplamoose song)!

  • I definitely hear Brothers in there. Awesome sounds.

  • that riff at :58 ... that's really catchy.

  • another triumphant set :)

  • Loved the 7/8th jam at 0:50. Should have sent the hi-hat into the offbeats, would have sounded killer! Everything was awesome, nice work.

  • hey Jack, did you grt my message (concerning "the dance of the sugar plum fairy") ?

  • you should definitely try and cover one of there songs. like everlasting light. great album and great job jack

  • @jackcontemusic - If you don't mind my asking, where did you learn to play high hat with the left hand instead of right you are one on only a few drummers iv'e ever seen play like that. JW

    ~from a young aspiring drummer

  • that snare sound at 0:50 is absolutely killer. would you mind sharing some info on how you tracked/processed it?

  • Awesome as always! How do you make that crazy sounding synth-Bass? What are you using for that midi keyboard?

  • Groove #3 was epiiiiiiiic sauce

  • 3 people missed the "Like" Button.

  • Every one of these sound like a start to an amazing tune. The third one in particular sounds like another "Gulf" in the making! Please develop these ideas - I'd love to hear how they turn out!

  • YAAY. JACK SHAVED HIS HEAD AGAIN! (=

  • I'M A LOYAL FAN DAWGY!

  • Jack Conte is one of my biggest musical inspirations. I've always wanted to learn how to play piano, and after listening to Jack Conte's music for months on end I asked my parents if i could get piano lessons and we're going today. Words can not express how deep my love and admiration is for his beautiful music. Never stop what you're doing, Jack! You're an inspiration to us all! Also, i hope you go on a west coast tour, and that you'd come to Pheonix, that seriously would make my life.

  • this is probably a dumb question but whats the brand of that oldschool keyboard he keeps using cause i'd like to maybe get one my self

  • Awesome beats....I'd buy an album of just this.

  • VERY GOOD. LOOKS AND SOUNDS LIKE YOU´RE REALLY INTO - AND ON TO - IT: LOVE. AS USUAL. MAKES ME GLAD.

  • How did you get that bass-sound at 1:19 ?

  • 0:28 could be a commercial song :)

  • how could anyone dislike thisss? really? 2 ppl dont know whats good in life

  • typical Conte......as good as it gets

  • 0:50 Love the hi-pass on the intro, and then the big phat stereo panned fuzz

  • 1:02 sounds kinda Rage against the Machineish to me

  • @Anvilization I came here to say that. You bastard! Totally a Tom Morello sound on the guitar for sure.

  • The Riff starting at 0:50 is Killer!

  • I like the slinky one

  • Anyone who recognizes The Black Keys has a good head on their shoulders ;)

  • wowowow, loved the 3rd one at 0:50 Really nice feel to the groove on that one, and when the elec guitar really kicks in it's even better!

  • @tensionishere I find that it sounds a lot like Gulf. The beat's good, but I find it ressembles Gulf.

  • @tensionishere it sound like the time signature is a bar of 8/8 then a bar of 7/8. it's really sweet stuff!

  • 1:12 SLINKYYYY

  • Mix sounds good. What mics are you using?

  • number 2 sounded acdcish for a second. which should be bad cuz i cant stand them...yet I really liked it. hmmm.

  • thumb up if you think he should do a whole ten minute long song of the third groove ;)

  • the tune from 0:48 blew my mind!

  • Mr. Jack!! Lovely! Your drumming is taking leaps man, way to go! Love the grooves and the new gear is exciting!

  • Jack, I think your drumming has improved a lot over the past couple of years, :-)

I dig the grooves.. Some funky cool stuff. *I* am ready to hear you jam out like in Gulf soon! I miss the quirky rock my face off version of you. Let him out man!!! ;-)

  • you kinda remind me of keanu reeves.

  • I would've taken a bite out of the apple at the end.

  • The 3rd lick is like Gulf's meaner older brother... All the grooves are tasty Jack, keep up the good work!

  • i like dah second one

  • Awesome! Dude, Love the black keys influence on them :D

  • 3rd one pretty much like NIN

  • Hey Jack, ever try putting your tambourine on your floor tom?

  • awesome Jack - just received your VS4 today - shipped all the way from the States to lil ol' England... loving your work and the album is great. please never stop making music... :)

  • That was fun!

  • zzzzz tha shits, awesome dude!

  • love this!!

    Zimonias,

    Art Photographer

  • Killer grooves, great pocket stuff.

  • Amazing, man! (feel free to lose the comma too)

  • Somehow I feel Brandon Boyd should fill in the vocals..

  • FANTASTIC!

  • I can almost tell which songs on the album each groove has been inspired by. 0:54 has a very Black Keys sounding snare. And 1:22 sounds a hell of a lot like Everlasting Light. Good stuff Jack!

  • A slinky. You're a madman, Jack. Great stuff as always.

  • hello jack,

i also love the black keys album.. its really a great piece of music, well produced and so much vibe.. but the black keys used only 2 mics to track the drums! 1 mono overhead! and 1 bassdrum mic. all the additional percussion overdubs are spread over the stereo spectrum. greets from vienna, and btw.. i like your stuff..

  • Those were all fantastic especially the last one.

  • i particularly enjoyed the bit with the slinky.

  • i'm positive that this will end up being remixed together by jack to make some amazing song that will blow our minds

  • i really like number 2 and 3. lots.

  • I love the Slinky. If I didn't just watch it, it'd drive me nuts trying to figure out what made that sound.

  • Very tasty!

  • I WANT ALL OF THESE TO BE SONGS PLEASE

  • @donkeydonker69 have you not heard of jack conte before? do some fucking research before you post something like that. course he can write real songs, he's written so damn many and they're all genius.

  • everything you do is awesome. YES!!

  • Nice grooves. You ought to turn these into real songs!

  • the way that The Black Keys gets that really "dirty" sound is because they own one of the few all analogue studios still around. once anything goes digital it gets "clean".

one way to get the "dirty" or "warm" sound is by running everything through tube-preamps then into your digital equipment.

  • @bluelightingguy I disagree that whenever something gets A/D'd that it becomes "clean". If you go Mic - Pre - A/D - Pro Tools as is becoming the norm, you miss out on that magical analogue sound for certain.

Mic - Pre - Tape - A/D - Pro Tools is another matter entirely, as you sort of mention.

Another important thing to mention is that, whilst not being as good as the real thing, digital simulations of tape is still a surprisingly good option.

Not disagreeing with you, just expanding :D

  • wow. i really really really hope to god(FSM) that you intend to make the rifs from 0:50-1:13 to a full fledged song. i have been hoping for more of your awesome rock songs for months.

  • @bakafreaky AMEN, BROTHER!!!

  • You are so talented - thank you for sharing your talent with us - it is so appreciated <3

  • I want to be the guy who commented on the amazing editing since I appreciate the effort it takes to do it so well that if flows and looks easy like this.

  • 3rd groove was my favorite. Reminded me a lot about Gulf and Push. I love the hard work that you put into creating these videos and wonderful songs :)

  • The drumming to No. 1 sounded all too familiar for a Jack Conte beat. The rest of the riff was alright.

No. 2 had a nice feel to it, as though you could continue to build into a freaking sweet chorus or something

No. 3 sounded like no other Jack Conte song i can think of, I loved it! You are capable of producing so many different sounding songs, as time has proved, and I have loved hearing that variety over the years!

No. 4 sounds like it could incorporate both your voice and Natalie's!

  • dear jack...i dont know if you well read this but i wanted to tell you i love what you do, your and amazing musician and your very inspirational to me...do you have any suggestions on how i get started, i never took lessons, but i know in my heart i have it....i can feel it, and ive always known im destine to make music...not be a rock star but move people....

  • Great Jack..... Maybe your next project should be a series of 'exercise workout' videos for musicians?

  • 0:28 some good shit

  • Hey Jack. Thanks so much for breaking out of Itunes. There is no Itunes for Linux, my choice of OS. $20 on the way via paypal for you ;)

Thanks for all your hard work, you and your tunes are thoroughly entertaining.

  • Nice use of a slinky that you've grown out of!!

  • Great beats, I have always loved that side of music, I listen to the bass and drums and look for above average talent to really elevate a band above average as far as their style is concerned. You always impress me

  • Jack, this is seriously getting boring.

Everything you do is perfect and really amazing.

  • I had a friend toss me Brothers and I couldn't do anything for the next month. They do a lot of things well. Glad you're enjoying it.

  • You can make any one of those 4 intro's into full fledged songs!

  • can you make them into full blown songs?! I love Black Keys too and the snippets sound aaaamazing!!!

  • Groovy, indeed.

  • #3 is really cool indeed.

  • Nice to step outside of your box. It is easy to fall into a grove (read rut) but good to see you recognizing the need to expand. Great work and a body of work.

  • Love the first and third grooves! Keep 'em comin' Jack, absolutely love your work. On the off chance that you read this comment I'd like to request a nice recording of Oh Hell! It's hands down my favorite of your songs. Jack and coke got nothing on Jack and 'cordion.
