As an example, SQUEEZE arrived on the scene in 1978, & continued to write & record excellent songs all thru the 80's & 90's, far better than anything 'trendy' in the contemporary charts. Unfortunately their lack of commercial success in later yrs, proves that talent has nothing to do with it, just who has the prettiest face, huh cheryl !!??
gazzymodo 1 year ago
@gazzymodo I know what you mean about trendiness... America were still producing good songs into the 1980s, but due to changing fashions, they were no longer selling so well and at one point, some "suit" in the record company decided that they should get some new songwriters for them! What a slap in the face for people who had written such beautiful songs as "Inspector Mills", "Old Man Took", "Another Try" etc.
bunchie1966 1 year ago
I won't comment on the lyrics, as others have, but musically the song reminds me of Liverpool Express ("Everyman must have a dream) type thing. You mentioned you'd like to write more contemporary songs, personally i prefer 'old style' writing that has melody, clever chord changes etc unlike the overproduced non-melodic stuff today. 'STAY' is a very nice !
gazzymodo 1 year ago
@gazzymodo Hi, I definitely agree with you about melody, chords etc. What I meant was the production. I have put a lot of songs on sites like Garageband and Slice the Pie and numerous reviewers describe them as sounding like "something from the '70s" as if that is a defect. So although I do not intend to compromise by churning out 3-chord garbage, I thought I would try to achieve a more up-to-date production. Glad you like the song.
bunchie1966 1 year ago
