With the current situation of the thrash scene, and the aging musicians Megadeth has really come through. This isn't a band on life support with nothing left to give like metallica these days. This is a band that can still kick ass and take names, even without the drugs.

Death Magnetic was awesome, but it wasn't exactly THAT thrashy.

Metallica and megadeth were both awesome. Then they started to suck (Metallica started with Black, Megadeth with Youthanasia, arguably Countdown to Extinction). Then Metallica claimed to be back and proved themselves wrong with pretty lousy songwriting. Then Megadeth came back... AND THE GROUND SHOOK, AND THE ELDER GODS CAME UP FROM THE GROUND TO BECOMETH THE EPIC WHICH IS ENDGAME.

Granted, it's not their best work (some songs are dull), but it's definitely epic. PSBWB>KIB>Endgame=RIP>all else

Tbh. As much as i despise Metallica and especially Black Album, it still had it's moments (Struggle Within) and so did Youthanasia (Killing Road, Reckoning Day). Countdown is a magnificent metal album. Not the basic Megadeth album, but still you can feel the band in it. And i agree on the epic thing. You just forgot that Peace Sells is by far the best album Megadeth ever made :)

Come on, Death Magnetic is nowhere near as good as Youthanasia or even the Black Album. It's not all about being heavy and fast, you have to look past that sometimes. And both Youthanasia and Black are miles better than DM both songrwiting-wise and production-wise. There are plenty of great songs on these albums, just not the usual thrashers you would expect by these bands. DM on the other hand is a decent comeback effort, but is plagued by uninspired songwriting and shitty production.
