it's really unfortunate that nobody every talks about the recovery abilities of this tool on a large scale. it's always about recovery of some bad sectors or something. well... once a hdd has failed, i don't see how it would help to fix a couple of errors. i would be more interested if it's low level read capabilities can help in rescuing at least some data from a drive that can't be fully restored any more.
This program is great, but he is SO FULL OF CRAP when talking about upnp and other Windows functions. He's just DEAD WRONG and every experienced computer expert agrees. Just check online for "steve gibson wrong" or "incorrect"
@fabiuh991 my other computer would boot with the usb drive it creaeted, but my lenovo laptop won't. And I can boot pupply linux off the same thumb drive. SO I gave in a burned a cd.
My only problem with SpinRite is that when I ran it, it wasnt able to recover my data, it erased the bad sectors that were marked by chkdsk, and made everything a lot worse. I am pretty confident that it will work with minor defects, but I was dealing with nearly 15% of the drive as marked bad.
now I understand how it works..heard about this on some pc shows etc. but no one ever told me what it does or how it works. I wondered how does it fix bad sectors ??
If you stop midway through you just keep track of the percentage completed, then when you start it again you can input that percentage as the start point.
Can someone tell me if SpinRite can recover the data that's been replaced by different RAW IMAGE from another HDD? I accidently copied a raw image from the wrong HDD so now the HDD's each sector replaced by the empty new HDD that suppose to be the other way around.

This software caused hard drive failure using option 4 on my 3 week old maxtor hard drive, and i'm really pissed, stay away from this crap, this is a giimick, scam, this guy is a LIAR! BS artist, he knows nothing about hd maintenance GGGRRRR
If it was Maxtor, what do you expect, the 250Gb Maxtor I had started clicking and just died one day, it wasn't because of Spinrite it was because it is a shitty Maxtor. Especially the ones made around Sept 2005, they all click and die.
What an idiot...
He says it swaps in a new sector and swaps out the bad sector. Then he said that "fixes it".
It doesn't fix anything, it just ignores the bad ones.
It keeps trying and trying to recover bad sectors, which can most likely spread the damage..
