  • I loved it!!!!!!! Thank you for telling me about this wonderful subject!!!!!

  • Ive almost finished Freuds book on dreams. Its a hard book to understand because theres no real evidence in it. So you have to use own experiance to validate what he sais.

I agree with almost everything Freud had to say in the book. Though Im still trying to figure out if sexual symbolisme/desire plays a big part in dreams. Our whole behaviour is based on surviving and trying to have sex so it wouldnt be absurd at all.

  • You're amazing thank you for the videos

  • The topic of this video caught my attention because i have certain dreams that catches my attention and i always wanted a meaning or purpose of my dream. This gave me rational answer of the purpose of my dreams but its like i still want answers lol.

  • This video was very interesting to me because I didn't know that sleeping had different stages. I liked it because he explain the different stages of sleeping well and he gave good explains.

  • interesting because i had experience one of these aspects. i remember when i was sleeping one night i randomly woke up in bed having full conscience but unable to move my body.it freaked me out but somehow i closed my eyes and when i woke up that morning i was able to move. some time had passed sice then and it happend again and when i tried moving it felt as if a force was holding me down. i never really thought anything bout it untill now. n it helped explain why i felt that.

  • for more than twenty years I've had reaccuring dreams that I Went to class on the last day after not going all semester, have to take a final exam and don't know a thing! So I went back school after 30 years and I still have that dream.

  • i like this because i learned why i can dream everyday but cant remember my dream and i like how you broke it down.

  • I really enjoyed this video, my favorite part is when he explains the latent content and manifest content for dreams. I used to believe in books about dream descriptions and at times I used to rely on them. Now whenever I have a dream, I try to apply this to figure out the manifestation of my dream.

  • He explains sleep and dreaming very well and organized. i like how he talks about dream interoperation and the context of our dreams with dr. freud's manifest content and latent content. he's right those books based on the meaning of our dreams are bogus. i've always thought dreams are based on things on our mind or what is going on in our lives at the moment.

he also broke down the sleep stages and what the body does during sleep very well.

  • this was really interesting to me. i had read before about REM, but didn't quite understand how it worked. this video was very helpful to understand why certain things happen in my dreams ,and of course, for me to stop buying those dream books. my mom has many theories of certain dreams. she always tells me that if i dream with water something bad is going to happen in my life. as soon as i dream with water im already constantly thinking that im going to have a bad day.

  • I did not know there were so many aspects to dreaming. This video has taught me about the kind of sleep I will get depending on the day, what stage I will fall under if sleep deprived, and not to buy books on dream interprtations.

Now I just wish I was able to remember all my dreams at night

  • There are many dream myths pased down from grandma. But no one really wants the truth. I had never heared of REM sleep untill now or the 90min dream state.

  • It has been forever since the last time i remembered one of my dreams, its rather annoying not knowing what i dreamt, because like its said on this video everyone has dreams every night. however, I do agree on how those books that translate dreams for us is a waste of money because like Dr. elligan said everyone is different, it may work for one person but not the other. I wonder if there are some techniques to do before one goes to sleeps that will help remember dreams once a person wakes up.

  • I had never heard that dreams are restorative to those who are drained emotionally during their day-to-day lives. I imagine that it would be really hard to figure out a way to implement a valid research strategy for this.

  • I thought that as the night goes on, dreams start to occur in intervals shorter than 90 minutes. I have been very interested in dreams, especially in the summer when I heard of something called lucid dreaming which I have experienced before. This past summer I bought a book on lucid dreaming which explained sleep paralysis which I have also experienced many times in the past.

  • I found it interesting about REM sleep, I didnt know that it took 90 minutes to get to point of dreaming state. It does make sense though when I have had an emotional draining day and I dream I do feel better. Sometimes I have such bizzare dreams and thet feel so real. Sometimes I have had dreams about being chased or even shot and it feel so real. After the dream I would be scared that I would be chased or even shot , but now I know maybe something else was going on that I was trying to avoid.

  • Sleep paralysis is quite interesting, I have not experienced waking up while it is still on, but my mother has and she used to believe that some ghost was on top of her.

  • i have experienced sleep paralysis and i never knew what was going on. it is a very scary thing to go thru. i am glad that you explained for us and in a clear way. video was very interesting and i look forward to seeing other you have up.

  • i find it interesting to know that the reason you don't remember some dreams is because you woke up after the dream stage, also that people who have emotional draining days spend more time in REM sleep mode. intersting topics..

  • I think sleep paralysis happens when i have nightmares also. I can now understand why people think they do not dream i guess its because they do not remember. REM also explains why my contacts tend to fall out when I am sleep.

Thanks for the advice on the books now i can save my money.

  • This information was very useful to me. I can honestly say I didnt know when your sleep your eyes are in REM.. Majority of the the time sleep paralysis does happen to me when im having a nightmare. Although we are not really suppose to act out our dreams i tend to wake up swinging..lol...Manuel

  • we dream every night several times. rem=dream state. emotionally drained=more rem. physically drained=less rem. sometimes people wake up during the dream and they are awake and cant move because of sleep paralysis, but can move soon. rem rebound: sleep deprived, when they go to sleep they go right into rem sleep instead of around 90 minutes. freud - manifest content:what you are dreaming about at the moment. latent content- true meaning, metaphorical meaning for the individual. awesome stuff.

  • This video kind of eliminated most of the myths I believed on about dreams. I had never heard of Sleep Paralysis, this constantly happens to me. I was wondering why is that.

  • very informative video.i enjoyed watching it. I never dream tho, does this mean i never get into the rem stage? lol.

i also liked how you used real life example of your dream, and gave the latent and manifest interpretations.

this video will definitely help me, help others try to figure out their dreams, instead of them buying books that are worthless.

  • this is me, but i sude my brothers account !

    & now ihave one.

  • I did not know we dream that many dreams in one night! I wish I could remember more, they are fascinating. I have actually woke up, still being in sleep poralysis, I thought I was dying it was so scary! Nice explantion of latent and manifest dream interpretation.

  • This video is so informative about REM sleep and dreams. I'm glad you did a video about them because I always have crazy dreams and have always wondered what they mean. But because I don't know much about dream interpretations or anything of that sort, I don't analyze them myself. Your example at the end was a good at helping us understand how a dream can be interpreted.

  • I've always wondered about dreams, and thought I understood some aspects of them, was I wrong. I thought REM sleep was when a person was in a state of unrest. Thanks for helping me understand that Rapid Eye Movement is the activity that's taking place when a dream is in progress. I'd also like to thank you for explaining Freud's Latent and Manifest content, and for your utilizing this theory to explain your own dream with the snakes. I was hoping you'd speak about dreaming in color.

  • I'm glad I never bought a book about Dream Interpretation. However I had a dream that my teeth were falling out. I looked up what that could mean but, most of the theories suggests many different things. I told my mom about my dream and she told me it meant that someone in my family would die. And later that day, my aunt, in California, told me my uncle died. I think it's just a coincidence but, I'd still like to know what dreams about falling teeth mean.

  • Dreams are often things that I regularly. Often times I would get very busy after a long day, and finally go to sleep I would experience REM sleep.

  • I have experienced sleep paralysis many times over the years; sometimes being so frightened that I refused to go back to sleep for the fear that it would happen again. I agree with the theory of dream interpretation that Dr. Elligan discusses in this video that was put forth by Sigmund Freud.

  • i had dream & tried to write it down later that day but found myself making up things that may not have been there. next time i will write it down as soon as i wake up so i can decode the latent meaning. what if a person has a dream where everything is absolutely normal? i like all the video postings because all of them are to the point with a review at the end. your video giving a general view of psychology was awesome. i found that i am into personalities of people and figuring out how to help

  • Dream are the most fascinating things in our live... Like Dr. Eligan says dreams can help people to react on something that happened to us during the day. A lot of people think that manifest content of a dream is the only one and most recent theory of dreaming. However I agree that the latent content of the dream is has also meaning...

  • This video is awesome. I really like the parts about interpretations and latent vs. manifest Freudian information. I once had a dream about a rat infestation in my home and I researched an "interpretation" and it was right on about what was going on in my life. It freaked me out. dreaming is awesome, interesting and so very crazy. Thanks for providing some psychological insight into what dreaming is about.

  • I can related to the restorative and emotional recuperation of REM sleep, especially on busy days when I am emotionally spent. The one thing I always found curious in dream interpretation (latent-metaphorical meaning) is the meaning varies from day to day and week to week of the same dream. The personal dream interpretation example was beneficial to understand the concept. Good lecture series

  • I think dreams are fascinating. A lot of people would argue that the reason why you are paralyzed during your sleep is because there is some type of abnormal existence on top of you making you not move. I believe that we have dreams for a reason. Culture is an important factor when it comes to the meaning of dreams. For instance, if your teeth fall out that means that there will be a death in the family or something like that. Like some people may say, science can go so far and then comes God.

  • Fascinating examination of dreaming. Lots of pertinent and interesting info. I was always curious as to why I rarely remember dreams, turns out I rarely wake up during them. I liked your example of interpretation of latent content but it seems like you could interpret that in any number of ways. We can assign and attach meaning to nearly anything in dreams so how can one make specific conclusions about something so vague. I would like to hear what you thought of "inception."

  • I enjoyed learning that we remember our dreams only if we wake up in our stage in which we were dreaming. I also found it interesting that people who stay up and need sleep because they are deprived go straight into REM sleep. Overall very informative video.

  • wow its funny how you said that buying these dream books are kind of a waste of money because my mom has a tone of them, but seeing how u said that dreams are an interpretation of whats going on in your everyday life i can apply some of the dreams i have had to what i had going on but they have just manifested in another way. Great job, you explained the kind of sleep your under when you dream and its occurrence. Again great speech and since its restorative people should try and sleep more.

  • I was especially interested in your comments regarding why we remember some dreams and not others. I never knew that you remember your dreams based on whether you wake up in your dream or not. I wonder if dreams are somewhat genetic. I had a dream once that was very strange and I felt sick the next day. When I discussed it with my mother, she said that she had the same recurring dream throughout her life right before she got sick.

  • I really enjoyed this video. The correlation between lack of sleep, and a need for immediate REM sleep is interesting. Sleep does seem to have some restorative qualities. It sounds like getting a good nights sleep is probably one of the best things you can do for your body and mind. Thanks!

  • As I walked by her i tried to find a wound or something but couldn't identify anything. I stood next to her trying to find out what was going on; she gave me this look of agony, horror, but she couldn't talk. This dream was so disturbing i woke up crying and really scared. 3 weeks later we got notified that my cousin had died. as soon as they told me I thought about that dream and I finally understood what my grandma was trying to tell me. I considered that dream a premonition

  • Very interesting Dr Elligan. From my previous psych class i learned about the different theories about dreaming (suppression of the ego, external factors like stress, or premonitions for example) I want to share this quick story with everybody. I rarely dream about my grandma who passed away when i was 6. a couple of months ago i had this horrible dream where she was laying on the ground (at her house) and she was bleeding.

  • dream on!! im constantly searching for the meaning of my dreams,i often look for the manifestion of my dreams, but after watching this video i would probaly dig deeper into the latent content..i often visit websites to interpret dreams but now i know i have been looking in the wrong direction!! latent content is what i should be intrepreting, perhaps i should get rid of all of those dream books and stop wasting my money uhh, doctor?

  • Sleep paralysis...We always called that "The Witch is riding your back..' I didn't know that there were times when you did and didn't dream..Emotionally drained and dreaming makes a lot of sense. The mind is relazing itself whereas physically exhaustive sleep brings on the healing of the body. That was a great analysis of dream interpretation. I've never thought much about studying this subject, but it was always interesting to me...Very interesting..

  • Looking at REM sleep you discuss that during emotionally drained people tend to sleep "deeper" I guess. Is this one of the reason that depressed clients tend to stay in bed for longer extent of time. You also talk about people dreaming of colors but I remember learning that we dont have colors in our dreams or cant recall the dreams. Also, I remember having a recurring dream about trying to get through a maze as a young child much like yours with the snakes...I had chicken pox at the time.

  • I hardly remember any of my dreams so to hear that I have 4 to 5 a night was interesting. Another part I found interesting was that most psychologists would find dream interpretation books a waste of money. I have a friend who believes in these books and I forwarded your video to her I am interested in hearing her response.

  • This video was very interesting to watch because so much happens while people sleep. I thought it was cool that an emotionaly draining day causes people to experience more REM sleep. Sleep paralisis is also very interesting and beneficial. I found that when I am sleep deprived I begin dreaming even before I completely fall asleep.

  • Dreams are always an interesting topic. I think a lot of us wish we knew what are dreams really meant.. I liked the example that Dr. Elligan gave about his personal dream. I also found sleep paralysis to be interesting.

  • This video is an awesome look into the fascinating world of dreams. Sleep paralysis is interesting, and i have experienced it inside of a dream, and it would happen commonly. Dream interpretations are also fascinating, and i'm interested to find out how accurate this field is.

  • the video answered some questions i have had about dreams. my dreams that keep coming back may symbolize something not so much the physical aspect of the dream. i have always found talking about dreams interesting and very good job on explaining on dreams in simple form.

  • Thi video is interesting. I took general psych and I informed my teacher that I was on sleep medication and she made the comment that I shouldnt dream. Which is interesting because I dream every night. The sleep paralysis I actually experienced just three weeks ago. It was extremely scary. I could hear everything but it felt as if I wasnt strong enough to open my eyes or move my body.

  • This video answer many questions I have about dreams. I always wonder why I sometimes thought that I did dream at all. Now I know why. Also why we have lots of dreams. Very Interesting.

  • This video was very informative for me. I was always told that when you awaken from your sleep abruptly and you can't move that it's because of some unseen entity sitting on you. I know now that what i've experienced is called sleep paralysis, and i've experienced it a few times and it scared me to think that something was holding down and keeping me from moving but now I know the cause of my inability to move.

  • I thought this video was informative, i always thought everytime we went to sleep we dream. I thought it was interesting about how when we wake up during a dream we remember it but we cant remember other dreams we had.

  • Dreams are very unique in the fact that no one has a full understanding of what each individual dream means. I found it very interesting that how the same object say for instance a bird, in one dream can mean one thing and in another dream be completely different. although i rarely remember my dreams i think they all have their own meaning.

  • I found this video to be very informative. The various levels of sleep and the ways that dreams can be interpreted I found to be noteworthy. The fact that two of the same dreams that a pair might have could mean two very different things is also interesting.

  • This was an interesting video. Dreams have always baffled me mostly because I almost never remember mine. When I do remember them they are often very weird. The idea of sleep paralysis is also very interesting because I have many friends that have experienced this. I also find dream interpretation very interesting.

  • When viewing this video, I was especially interested in the concept of sleep paralysis. Many times my boyfriend told me that he would experience this and because I had never heard of it, I could not understand how it was possible. He actually says he has to fall back to sleep in order to get himself out of it. It makes sense though that we need it in order to not play out our dreams. Without it I know sleeping while dreaming would be very difficult.

  • It's so interesting how we dream everytime we're asleep several times too. I know that I don't remember every dream that I dream. Sometimes I know I'm dreaming and as soon as I wake up I forget instantly what I dream. I don't think I've ever sleepwalked nor talked in my sleep. I don't think dreams tell the future, I just think people dream whatever is on their mind at the moment or during the day, but they certainly can't tell the future.

  • I find it very interesting how we dream everyday and more than once and may not remember them. I take many things in life as "signs" and Ive always belived that many of the dreams we remember are meant to either tell us or warn us of something. At least I have "Warning" Dreams all the time! Sometimes dreams may seem pointless but I think all dreams have meaning. Dr. Elligan does a great job in explaining to us dream analyis as well as sleep paralysis.

  • This is one video I must have viewed. I'm also someone who is interested in dream interpetation. According to the doctor, I know what makes me not response in action during dreaming, sleep paralysis! Wow! I needed these facts. REM (rapid eye movement) sleep is what I'm in need for now. But I feel I have more manifest dreams then latent dreams because most of my dreams bizarre.

  • I am very interested in dream interpretation because I wake up each morning and can remember every single detail of my bizarre dream or dreams. I am always trying to figure out what they can possibly mean but it is so hard to wrap my head around them when they are so crazy. Dr.Elligan was right when he stated that aspects of dreams can mean different things to different people. I think it is up to the person that has the dream to try and interpret what it means to them and go from there.

  • I always wounder about REM sleep, Beacause I notice my nephew's eyes moving while he was sleeping. I also never remember my dreams because I tend to wake up at night to turn around or I feel my body nerves moving. Good information!

  • I'm so glad that I learned what sleep paralysis is because I have actually experienced that before and I was woke but I couln't move and I tried to open my mouth but it was stuck and it actually hurted. I cannot recall the dream but I will never forget that, that happened to me. I'm so glad I understand what I was experiencing now.

  • when we discussed this topic in class, i was more interested than ever. I took a few classes in high school about psychology and it taught me a great deal of things I had no idea about. I would have a few dreams that i could remember significantly and some i could'nt recall at all. I would also have a "rich" dream one night and a death dream the other which would be the opposite or jus bizzare so thank you for explaining my crazy sleep-away dreams

  • Dreaming at least four times a night was an interesting fact. The thing that really caught me was the idea of Sleep Paralysis. When waking up during this, you stated that it can be a frightening thing. Although Ive never had it happen to me, Im sure it is a frightening thing. Ive always been told that it can be a spiritual thing as well. So once Sleep Paralysis was discussed, I immediately went to the spiritual realm.

  • I have always wondered what dreams meant. But it turns out that it is quite hard to analyze and try to figure out what a dream actually means.

  • I know personally I am an extremely light sleeper and rarely sleep all through the night and don't seem to remember my dreams often. But, I believe that these are interesting issues, and I am glad that I have listened to your perspectives.

  • This video was very interesting, really good information. I like the fact that it talks about the dream books not been real. I always believed that every dream has a different meaning for every person. I also learned new information such as the number of dreams people have during their sleep time.

  • this video was very helpful for me. I will admit that at one point i bought a dream book and it wasn't so helpful and after seeing the video i now know that each dream is unique to the person and has a personal meaning behind the symbolism of the dream.

  • Good job. Very informative, I didnt know that we dream every night, and I also didn't know what it meant to not be able to remember my dreams.

  • Dr. Elligan the presentation on dreams that you gave in it you was saying everone dream everyday. If we wake-up while we are dreaming we will remember our dream. When you arre sleep and dreaming your body is cut off or paralazye because when you are moving in your dream you don't want to be moving. Great Job!

  • After looking at this clip I am wondering what stage of sleep are you in when you initially fall asleep in deep thought, never have a dream about these thought but wake up in the same thought process as if you never fully fell asleep. Did u actually acheive any resting time or did you day dream with your eyes closed the entire night pondering those initial thoughts?

  • What happens when you are in deep thought before sleep, then wake up in the morning feeling like you never fell asleep completely as if you're still in that intial thought process before you went to sleep? Is it possible to spend the entire resting period in REM?

  • I found that this episode about dream interpretation to be very and informative. I never took the time to and realize that there is so much that goes into a dream. This presentation was very well explained and easy to understand.

  • This was an intersting topic to learn about. I dream alot so I'm glad I have the tools now to analyze what my dreams really mean. Jung has some intersting theories that coincides with your presentation whic is very helpful too.

  • Very informative and interesting

  • Very informative and interesting

  • This video is very interesting. I like to be informed of things I was not aware of .

  • I found the video very insightful. There were a lot of questions that I had about dreams and the video answered a few of those questions. And now I know the look up Freud for more in deft answers.

  • This video was very interesting due to the fact that it has to do about dreams and rem sleep. I was never aware of the stages of sleep and I never knew we had multiple dreams in one night. Since it is rare for me to remember a dream i had no clue how many times a night I dream in the process of one night.

  • sleep paralysis was very very interesting. The context of the dream is certainly different for everyone. I might be able to understand how the content of my dream relates to my life or how i can actually connect it; but what happens when one dreams about a specific time. I used to have 11:11 involved in my dreams all the time. It happened aboout a few time a year. That time would always appear sometime during my dream.

  • Dreams are interesting to have because it can be interpreted in many ways. The great thing about them is that a person can interpret his/her dream in a very different way than another person.

  • This presentation was really cool. i know i should get more sleep, but because my days are so long with school and work i don't the recommended number of hours of sleep. Sleep paralysis would explain why its so hard for me to move, when i've awakened in the middle of a dream, after a couple hours of sleep. this video was very informative.

  • Interesting information, although sometimes is a little hard to interpreted dreams.

  • Very interesting. I personally enjoy this topic because it's pretty amazing how it all funcitons and this video gets to the point and teaches you new things about dreaming.

  • This is a very interesting topic. Psychology class did mention about dreaming too.

  • I love this video simply because I enjoy anything discussing dreams. I understand what happens when I'm asleep a bit more too!!

  • Wonderful enjoyed the video.
