Oil is necessary to keep up with the world, if we try to switch over to alternatives before they are financially viable, we will become a poor nation, we will actually switch over to alternatives as a primary energy source only when oil becomes too expensive, that is how economics works, lowest cost is best. Oil is necessary to keep up with the world, if we try to switch over to alternatives before they are financially viable, we will become a poor nation, we will actually switch over to alternatives as a primary energy source only when oil becomes too expensive, that is how economics works, lowest cost is best. Artificially raising the costs of oil through a lack of domestic production and cap and trade is a wrong aproach, oil will become more expensive and alternatives cheaper over time. r & d.

Yea, the entire American existence runs on oil. Don't you see the problem? When gas prices go up the economy goes down. We are dependant on 3rd world countries for our resources and we are making them rich. When oil runs out, then what? The price will always go up no matter what we do because of supply and demand. Yup its built using oil. Plus a fair bit of coal and a little taste of nuclear. Is looking for a better way to live bad? We can change for the better. Lets work towards that. Some people are living off the grid using solar but until necessary products are sustainable its incomplete. We can be adaptable give us a little credit. I think we have sufficient natural gas. If not I believe there are processes to turn coal into natural gas.

It is also only good for heating, not cooling. It's just not time for them. If the US would invest half of the money they spend on bribing governments/ fighting wars in developing fuel efficient machines,cars, etc and alternative fuels they would decrease the oil problem drastically. Your cars are as efficient as european cars were 30 years ago. Any european 150 hp car beats the average 300 hp american car, and probably even with a third less fuel or so. @PenisPlant liberals want a larger government, and more strict regulations, they just say it means less control but really they want to control and regulate everything, you can't spell L-I-B-E-R-A-L-S without L-I-E-S. Obama wants to take away all firearms from civilians. Republicans want the least possible restriction on civilian owned firearms. If you want less gun regulations then vote Republican.
