@TheDoctorofOdoIsland The antagonist from the movie Blade Runner. His death speech is fairly poetic as a contrast to the villainous role that he plays for most of the movie.
So I was reading Hamlet for my English class and I nearly exploded with delight when I realized Dinobot's last words at 2:08 are nearly the exact same as Hamlet's in Act 5 Scene 2. Now I need to grab tissues to wipe my tears, and change my pants.
Dinobot was amazing. He was the best written character on Beast Wars. His character actually has a story arc. And thats pretty fucking awesome. He was also by far my favorite of the show. Kudos to Scott Mcneil for doing such amazing voice work on Dinobot.
@hellfireleo I don't know. But Dinobot said "Improvise"? More like when Arcee said to Starscream "This is for Cliffjumper" from "Transformers Prime" "Partners".
I hated and loved this episode all at the same time. I hate it because Dinobot was always my favourite character and seeing him dead made me feel so mad and upset but the episode itself really highlights his character and I love it as well. Thanks for the post.
I just got the seasons 2+3 dvds. Played Gears of War 3 at a friend's and watched Dom die, and the next day saw this episode (I've been watching them all in order and it just happened to be the one I was to watch next)... Suffice to say that coupled with thoughts on the falling out I had a month ago with someone who was like a brother, now mere acquaintance, plus catching only 4 hours or less of sleep every night for the last 4 days, I was depressed for like 2 days.
I wish that I could watch all of Beast War when I was a kid ..... I just finished this show 3 months ago . My childhood would be better if that happend
Oh man. I just finished watching the series. (Downloaded it) When Dinobot died. I'm not going to lie I was holding in tears. SO much shit goes down in season 2 and 3. And when Dinobot comes back as a Transmetal I was jacked! <3
I love the fact that even though Rattrap and Dinobot hated each other; they shared a special friendship. The worked together as a unit even though he sat on rattrap and rode him like a bike a few time times cause he had wheels!
Rattrap held his had until he was gone and was the first to salute his death! Enemies in the beginning, but a best friend in the end!

they dont make moments like these anymore. kids these days have some fucked up shows they watchm where everything is carefully strung out as to not damage a child "emotionally." Like if your a 90s kids, the best decade of the century, where moments like this are what made your childhood so great.
Mainframe Entertainment was the king in the 90's. It may be gone now, but the shows it created, and the passion and effort it put into those shows is unsurpassed by most children's entertainment today. Sure, kid's shows SHOULD be kid's shows, but moments like this don't ruin it for the kids it bonds us to the show and makes an impact on us that will last through our lives. Kudos the the actors too because their inflection and tone were perfect. Just like the Vizier's death in S.R.
@BukkakeSniper I was weeping from that when I was a child, Dinobot was my icon and still is, when I saw him goes offline, I stood up and saluted him for his honor
@TrevelyanL85A2 He lived his life as a warrior and died as a hero. Let his soul walk the fields of elysium. He was the greatest of humanity's guardians.
@TrevelyanL85A2 I was 13 when my dad died and left me and my twin sister behind. At his funeral I could hear this song playing in my head, so Dom (my twin) and I stood in front of the coffin and saluted with tears falling from our eyes.
Shit!! I was 19 when this came on. A hard lost brings tears to my eyes. Dinobot was the truth and he represents a true warrior to a cause he didn't even believe in. But he was loyal to his comrades and that is what its about.
This scene is not simply watched...it is felt, and experienced. It has the magical ability to only be more powerful, tragic, and incredible to me each time. The first time, I waited...staring and hoping, even when he blasted the disk and fell, that he would somehow come out of this situation despite his failing power. When Rattrap zooms to him and gasps, I knew but didn't want to accept it. Of the moments before he finally passed, I'd say the one that hit me hardest was Optimus' first comment*
@TheAlienMind777 * "Well fought, my friend..." It was the perfect inflection and softness to his voice that really got me. Dinobot has, finally and ultimately, here at his end, earned the top level of respect from his entire team. The following funeral scene was pure perfection...I will admit, I took a trip to the waterworks. I can't help but shake my head and chuckle (sadly of course), though. The writers knew this scene would place Dinobot at the top without question, despite that he was gone.
I was seven years old when I first saw this. When I say I cried watching this episode I mean I CRIED. I balled my eyes out for at least a good half an hour until I was too exhausted to continue. The most traumatizing experience I ever had watching something on TV ha ha.

ne Thing I do not understand is how those wounds were fatal when we've seen many other transformers in the series suffer worse in the series hell in the battle proceeding this scene Inferno was decapitated and survived on a side note I saluted Dinobot when he died
@Spystreak Wounds on a robot don't work like wounds on a person. You can take a computer apart, then put it back together, and it'll still work fine. But if the motherboard fails, your screwed. Yet a taken apart computer looks "worst" than a computer with a failed motherboard. Even on a person, an invisible, internal wound can be far more deadly than an external wound (although obviously decapitation is worst than both for us)
Dinobot was interesting because he was always searching for meaning. He was always skeptical of the Maximals altruism, yet as someone who valued honor he never bought into the Predacons deceptive and destructive ways either. He never truly fit into either camp. Yet there came a moment when he absolutely had to choose what he wanted to be, and he chose to be a maximal and save history. This is my favorite transformers story.
Why did they think dinobot should've died? he was such a great foil to the maximals who were all "good", with the exception of black arachnia eventually joining them
When I think back to Transformers, people would expect me to think of Optimus or Bumble Bee or Megatron......... no sir. Dinobot pretty much sums up the entire franchise for me..... and im'ma keep it at that!
@rkmugen His death... hell that entire episode made him my favorite Transformer of all time. It was sad, but it made his history and his acts more meaningful to see him die at the end. Too bad they brought him back the next season as a transmetal.
@allthingsuno I actually liked his return but wished they would've had more time to develop it with another Beast Wars season rather than go right into Beast Machines. But even then, I would've rather had any form of Dinobot, even Transmetal Dinobot, survive and continue on into Beast Machines rather than to have no Dinobot at all.
I still remember crying my eyes out when this episode was over it really was one of the sadiest moments in Transformers history and still bring a tear to anyone's eye.
Only one thing missing from this clip. The ending of the episode where the Early Human used Dinobot's weapon as a tool and to defend himself. Showing that Dinobot was the one that showed humans what it means to have Honour and Kick some ass while doing it!
All the while, his spark shines down on us from the stars.
Among ALL the 'series' friendships I've seen through years, there's no oher I remember having liked as much as Dinobot and Rattrap's. These two admired and respected each other in a way that's just so unique, I'm pretty certain that Rattrap considered, and loved, Dinobot like a big brother.
Rest in Peace Dinobot, Greatest Warrior of Cybertron, with the Spark of a Poet. May you be remembered forever and Ever through time and Space for your Noble Sacrifice.
Just finished watching my seasons over again and I agree his death was by far the most heartfelt out of them all. Every time I watch this I still get teary eyed because it brings back the feelings I had for the show when I was younger. Awesome character and i really wish they would of made that one episode "Dark Glass" because that would of made me feel a little something more for the TransMetal 2 Dinobot before the final episodes. Awesome character and show!
I remember when I first saw Dinobot's death as a kid. I always thought he was such a jerk, but he died with honor. It really tore me up for like a week.
its incredible that after all these years, a kid's show could generate this kind of emotion in people. it shows how great this show really was for those few seasons.
Dinobot wasnt even a transmetal yet he KILLED OFF like 5 preds. NONE had ever been killed off in the show until then. Yeah one on one, Dinobot would FUCK UP Negatron.
@rootbeer3651 I agree. It wasn't the same. Just like Star Trek for that short time while Spock was dead. The missing byplay between him and Macoy... But at least there they didn't leave you with no chance for it to get restored. The trans-metal clone never lived up to Dinobot's character not honor until the end when it too died.
@ShadowRatchet92 I agree. But I cried more often on this one. Its got the entire animation working while Prime dieing in the movie hurt when I watch again it has less impact. Its kinda like re-watching Empire Strikes Back. You just don't take Vader's statement of being Luke's father the same way the second time.
Ahhh Dinobot... my first tv character death... wait no, actually that was zordon from power rangers, however this was my first emotional death, and for that I sall always become sad when thinking or watching this scene
Code of Hero is the best episode of BW. The best episode of the Transformer franchise. And has one of the Greatest deaths in the Entire Transformer Mythos.
Personally, Best Sci-Fi Episode ever and BEST DEATH EVER.
@wantonmee23 "upwind of you for preference vermin" basically saying he agrees that it is nice to know where he stands so that he doesn't have to smell him.
@Spokavriel Well I may be quite wrong but... I understand it in oter way: that while you stand upwind of somenone, you actually can smell him? As far as I know hunters try to stalk prey upwind. So Dinobot says that he wants to smell ;) Rattrap finally admitting that he likes him. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway Dinobot is one of the best fictional characters ever!
We, humans owe you a great debt Dinobot! I am sure you were granted a seat in Silicon Vallhalla!!!
After knowing the franchise for as long as I have and after seeing the original show's many incarnations/spin-offs, THIS is the only scene out of everything I've witnessed that stayed and continues to stay with me.
.
.
.
Well.... this and that time when Dinobot shuddered in disgust of having to ride on Rattrap's back (in beast mode) while shooting a mounted submachine gun. And the time Dinobot totally freaked out when he was blind and had to take directions from Rhinox.
@kirkyboipopoversion2 I think its possible to dislike this and still have a soul. After all some people don't like situations where they show emotions.
Lol I swear this is the only scene of Beast Wars I can remember clearly from my child hood. Dinobot's sense of honor and porphetic outlooks was one of the better parts of this show, not to say anything else was bad. Dinobot was such a badass.
Like I said you guys posting comments are just a bunch of blasted slag spouting saurains, but it's nice to know where you Transformer fans stand.Semper Fi.
@CaptainPoovabladoo That doesn't appear to have any relation to this series specifically... I'd be surprised if allot of people have any clue as to how the sides of that argument splits. I see that more on the toys than anything else and its confusing to me why you made that comment here.
I remembering watching this when I was a kid in middle school, it was insane becuase I didn't Think Dinobot was going to die. One of the greatest cartoon ep of all time, RIP DINOBOT!
BethXCooper Dinobot as a character had his end. And a Clone transmetal version also had a respectable end before they ended Beasties/Beast Wars. There was no way to bring him back yet again that would make any sense until the finale of Beast Machines where so many Autobots are apparently coming alive. But it would also still be more of a stretch than Waspinator's survival going through time the long way. Dinobot died definitively more than once.
@bethXcooper As I recall, when Beast Machines finished, there were plans to continue the saga with 'Transtech,' a series that would have brought back maximals and predacons, as well as autobots and decepticons, for another series. Dinobot was rumored to be one of those intended to be brought back.
Unfortunately, they scrapped the idea in favor of bringing 'Carbots' or something to America.
Here's something that I think they should add to the Covenant of Primus:
"And with the last of his strength, the heroic warrior destroyed the golden disk, preventing the destruction of the race that was yet to come and stopping the evil tyrant's plans. The mighty warrior, all his strength having been spent, fell, never to rise again. Though he lived a great warrior, he died an even greater hero. For a true hero is not measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his spark."
He went extinct for our sins.

I still remember crying my eyes out when this episode was over it really was one of the sadiest moments in Transformers history and still bring a tear to anyone's eye.
Terryfan 8 months ago
Only one thing missing from this clip. The ending of the episode where the Early Human used Dinobot's weapon as a tool and to defend himself. Showing that Dinobot was the one that showed humans what it means to have Honour and Kick some ass while doing it!
All the while, his spark shines down on us from the stars.

8 people don't know the slightest meaning of the words sacrifice and honor!

Among ALL the 'series' friendships I've seen through years, there's no oher I remember having liked as much as Dinobot and Rattrap's. These two admired and respected each other in a way that's just so unique, I'm pretty certain that Rattrap considered, and loved, Dinobot like a big brother.
elitadream 8 months ago
@elitadream IMO Rattrap respected, liked and even admired Dinobot, but I'm sure Rattrap didn't treat him like a older bro.

I don't care how many times I watch this episode, it still makes me tear up. This was by far the best episode of the whole programme.

I remember when I first saw Dinobot's death as a kid. I always thought he was such a jerk, but he died with honor. It really tore me up for like a week.

Beast Wars wasn't the same when Dinobot went offline because I missed him arguing with Rat Trap.
Lion346 10 months ago
its incredible that after all these years, a kid's show could generate this kind of emotion in people. it shows how great this show really was for those few seasons.

Dinobot is like Beast War's version of Vegeta (Dragonball Z)
R.I.P. Dinobot: my favorite maximal :(

@MistofWonder445 Funny fact - Dinobot's voice actor was the same guy who voiced Piccolo in the original 1996 English Dub of DBZ

Dinobot wasnt even a transmetal yet he KILLED OFF like 5 preds. NONE had ever been killed off in the show until then. Yeah one on one, Dinobot would FUCK UP Negatron.

Beast wars was really great but it just Wasn't the same after dinobot died :(
rootbeer3651 11 months ago 32
@rootbeer3651 I agree. It wasn't the same. Just like Star Trek for that short time while Spock was dead. The missing byplay between him and Macoy... But at least there they didn't leave you with no chance for it to get restored. The trans-metal clone never lived up to Dinobot's character not honor until the end when it too died.
Spokavriel 11 months ago 11
@rootbeer3651 uhhhh it becomes the same after depthcharge comes in..... In my opinion. he was my 2nd fav character after dinobot

This is just as, if not, more sad than When Optimus Prime died.
ShadowRatchet92 11 months ago 17
@ShadowRatchet92 I agree. But I cried more often on this one. Its got the entire animation working while Prime dieing in the movie hurt when I watch again it has less impact. Its kinda like re-watching Empire Strikes Back. You just don't take Vader's statement of being Luke's father the same way the second time.

@Spokavriel ive heard that before somewhere.....

Code of Hero is the best episode of BW. The best episode of the Transformer franchise. And has one of the Greatest deaths in the Entire Transformer Mythos.
Personally, Best Sci-Fi Episode ever and BEST DEATH EVER.

wat did dinobot say to ratrap?
wantonmee23 1 year ago
@wantonmee23 "upwind of you for preference vermin" basically saying he agrees that it is nice to know where he stands so that he doesn't have to smell him.
Spokavriel 1 year ago 8
@Spokavriel Well I may be quite wrong but... I understand it in oter way: that while you stand upwind of somenone, you actually can smell him? As far as I know hunters try to stalk prey upwind. So Dinobot says that he wants to smell ;) Rattrap finally admitting that he likes him. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway Dinobot is one of the best fictional characters ever!
We, humans owe you a great debt Dinobot! I am sure you were granted a seat in Silicon Vallhalla!!!
Javrid 8 months ago
After knowing the franchise for as long as I have and after seeing the original show's many incarnations/spin-offs, THIS is the only scene out of everything I've witnessed that stayed and continues to stay with me.
.
.
.
Well.... this and that time when Dinobot shuddered in disgust of having to ride on Rattrap's back (in beast mode) while shooting a mounted submachine gun. And the time Dinobot totally freaked out when he was blind and had to take directions from Rhinox.

This is back when people put THOUGHT AND EFFORT into cartoons and tv shows. That's why it's such a good scene....

Lol I swear this is the only scene of Beast Wars I can remember clearly from my child hood. Dinobot's sense of honor and porphetic outlooks was one of the better parts of this show, not to say anything else was bad. Dinobot was such a badass.

@CaptainPoovabladoo That doesn't appear to have any relation to this series specifically... I'd be surprised if allot of people have any clue as to how the sides of that argument splits. I see that more on the toys than anything else and its confusing to me why you made that comment here.

it sucks how nobody even mentions the name "Dinobot" in beast machines..
beast machines would have gotten a shitload of rep if they wrote dinobot in
bethXcooper 1 year ago
BethXCooper Dinobot as a character had his end. And a Clone transmetal version also had a respectable end before they ended Beasties/Beast Wars. There was no way to bring him back yet again that would make any sense until the finale of Beast Machines where so many Autobots are apparently coming alive. But it would also still be more of a stretch than Waspinator's survival going through time the long way. Dinobot died definitively more than once.
Spokavriel 1 year ago
@bethXcooper As I recall, when Beast Machines finished, there were plans to continue the saga with 'Transtech,' a series that would have brought back maximals and predacons, as well as autobots and decepticons, for another series. Dinobot was rumored to be one of those intended to be brought back.
Unfortunately, they scrapped the idea in favor of bringing 'Carbots' or something to America.
Aoitetsugakusha 1 year ago
@bethXcooper Ahhhh no, I think it is best that the best character of Beast Wars was not anywhere fucking near Beast Machines.
That show was an atrocity.
Goatmon 1 year ago
Here's something that I think they should add to the Covenant of Primus:
"And with the last of his strength, the heroic warrior destroyed the golden disk, preventing the destruction of the race that was yet to come and stopping the evil tyrant's plans. The mighty warrior, all his strength having been spent, fell, never to rise again. Though he lived a great warrior, he died an even greater hero. For a true hero is not measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his spark."
LoneWolfofAlaska 1 year ago 74
@LoneWolfofAlaska I don't know what made me cry more, the video or your comment. Maybe both.
Either way they should add something like that to the Covenant of Primus.
