Anhinga: I'm glad you showed this, as it is common to male budgies (who have no offspring to feed!). Babi is notorious for passing seed from his crop, but he does not try to feed us, and Biquette won't let him nearer than an inch or so. Zelda does this to show that he can be a GOOD father. Budgies are very "reproduction-oriented" but you must keep the situation in check by changing his focus when it gets too much: too much of it can bring a crop infection...
Thank you for telling me that. I have been worried about him because this doesn't seem good for him because it's so frequent. I was thinking of taking the toy away, however, he feeds other toys too. He feeds his mirrors and us too. I'm going to get this on video soon. My husband and I assumed that this was the reason as he is a male budgie. He would make a great father. Poptart never does this.
cont. I was worried that it may have something to do with the fact that the main cage (which is usually open) has a cover over part of it. My birds seem to like this. However, he feeds other toys in the other cage that's never covered and he feeds us too. I feel bad, but we can't get a female for him. Then we'd have more budgies.......which I'd love, but we aren't ready for that right now.
I know exactly how you feel... I dont't think it has anything to do with the "cover": it is all "hormone related" and you should see some cycles to the behaviour. With Babi he will have periods of 5-6 days when he does not do it, then hormones kick in and he's back at it. Usually when we take the toy away he will start with another toy, but not right away and when he does it takes a while before it gets as bad as before. You should try and see if you can see "cycles" in Zelda's behaviour.
(Cont.) If you find that it isn't as bad as quickly with a new toy (like for Babi), I would continue to take away the toy he's feeding. It is a way to "control" it somewhat... but you can never control it entirely and I've heard of some who will just feed their perches or even the cage bars if there is nothing else...
Thank you for telling me that. I will try that. Zelda sounds like the other birds you mentioned. He feeds everything, toys, mirrors, mineral blocks.but the pink bird is his favorite... I'm going to post a video soon of that. I used to see more cycles before, but lately it's been an all the time thing. He's also extremely affectionate. Feeds like crazy and is very affectionate towards you?: there is no mistaking it, it's a rush of hormones! Some parrot "behaviourists" recommend using these periods to become closer to the bird: if he does not like being touched, handled and petted, that is the time to initiate such actions, 'cause the bird will be at his most receptive they say. I must admit that this is true in Babi's case: he will allow much more "petting" during these periods.
Hi, Zelda is always very friendly like that. He comes when we call him. He's like a little puppy LOL. My husband is the favorite. As soon as he walks in, Zelda flies on his shoulder. (we are a bit camera shy though:) He actually chirps for attention often and to be picked up:) Mabey I'll get that on video. Funny though, but he doesn't let us pet him. Just his beak and his feet.
Thank you. He is extremely friendly. Overly friendly actually. He chirps to be held and he comes when you call him LOL. I'll have to get that on video sometimes. He's really so sweet. He grooms us too:)
Rudy does that to my thumb, but he doesn't spit up a ton of seeds only a few. Then I'll give them back to him and he'll eat them. If he fed his toy only, I would worry and take the toy away, but since he feeds your hand and Poptart, it doesn't seem to matter that he feeds his toy.

he would love some company and males can be cuddly to eachother aswel :) without the threat of babies :)
