Had Prohibition succeeded, there wouldn't be all these problems. Liquor should no longer be for sale at stores. They should only be allowed at restaurants and bars, not to be served directly but mixed with fruit juices. There is technology to measure the alcohol level of each drink.

What amuses me most about the Marijuana prohibition is that Illegal Marijuana is probably safer than modern legal tobacco. In general it seems illegal drugs are safer, less pushed, and more medicinal than legal drugs. Perhaps we are better off with weed being illegal.

What amuses me most about the Marijuana prohibition is that Illegal Marijuana is probably safer than modern legal tobacco. In general it seems illegal drugs are safer, less pushed, and more medicinal than legal drugs. Perhaps we are better off with weed being illegal.

But if it was up to me, I would ban tobacco as well. The only reason why smoking isn't banned is because it's generating huge money for government. But at least many countries are now starting to ban smoking in public places and public parks, so that's good.

Yes, the USA would be more bigoted than it is now. There was a big anti-immigration sentiment towards the Germans and Irish Catholics in the mid 19th century and the temperance movement was successful in using this to their advantage into getting Prohibition to become law in many states before it became a federal law. In 1851 Maine became the first state to have Prohibition. To the anti-immigation movement this was a step in their thinking to control immigration.

No, but many of the anti-immigrant Protestant Anglo-Saxons of the UK believed that having Prohibition could possibly slow the German immigration down as it did in the state of Maine which is only one of two states that the Germans aren't even in the top five among the immigrants of that state. The breweries were very dominantly owned and run by Germans and with prohibition in that state at a time when Germans were coming in large numbers was a turnoff for Germans to the state of Maine.

With states like Pennsylvania the Germans already had a large population so the Know Nothings couldn't get their way plus many of their own Anglo-Saxon Protestant people of the UK ancestry thought prohibition was shit and they also had distain for these Anglo-Saxon Know Nothings. Plus they can get the Germans and especially the Irish Catholics that came from the famine to work for cheap labor in the coal mines and factories. The reason I'm posting is that he told a story that I never knew about Alcohol Prohibition.
Ford originally made his cars to run on ethanol, so farmers could create their own fuel. He saw farmers really as his customers originally, since nearly all of us were farmers.
Here comes Rockefeller and big oil lobby. He provides money to the anti-alcohol movement in order to make Prohibition a reality, and stop the ethanol fuel industry and promote the use of fossil fuels.

It doesn't work because if you take something of everyday life and make it illegal, people are still going to do it. If something such as marijuana becomes legal, it would be impossible to again make it illegal if something happens. The best way is to not make something legal in the first place. If alcohol was never legal, we would have never had a problem with it. People are afraid of change.

Back in the old west cowboys sat around the fire at night they'd be pretty sore from being in the saddle all day herding cattle. Weed grew wild and all the locals (native Americans AND Mexicans) had been using marijuana for centuries. Honestly, don't you think the real cowboys used to smoke weed just to take the aches and pains out of their bones? Most traveling medicine wagons sold tonics high in opiate content. Tonics were used for most everything. Why NOW do we have a "war on drugs"??

Legalize the whole lot, and they suddenly lose their market, lose their money, and lose their power. It's just like the prohabition in the 20's. Also, it could help us in Afghanistan, instead of burning the opium (the Afghans livelyhood and main export) we could help them farm it (continued).

Just replace the world 'weed' or 'heroine' with the legalized substance 'alcohol' and suddenly the domino affect hasn't changed, the results are the same. The reason why these drugs are addictive is because the drug dealers add addictives in so that the person will come back for more, again I say; legalize it, get rid of the drug dealer and in turn getting rid of addictives and the situation will be better.

Mostly because President Franklin D. Roosevelt realized that if prohibition was repealed, farmers could sell more grain; carpenters could build more kegs; breweries, distilleries and bars would re-open and employ more people; and the US Gov't could tax the liquors being produced and consumed (The USA was in a Depression then). FDR's first words after signing the 21st Amendment to the Constitution repealing prohibition were, "Gentlemen, I believe this calls for a drink!"

There are hundreds if not thousands of deaths each year smuggling weed, cocaine, heroine, and other such drugs into the country.
