Hey everybody, please please sign this online petition for a Hitchens monument, it has 9000 signatures already but judging by the view counts on his videos it is nowhere close to representative to public feeling. when the day comes that religion is eliminated and the delusion is gone we can all look back and remember the great minds who opposed the global religious being hitchens dawkins stenger hawkings and so many more who paved the way for us to take over in the future. We will all look back and thank these great men who were outcasts at the time of religious b.s.
@Ragnarblackmane12 We all can. Enjoy your life, strive for understanding and logic, and don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about it. There's still plenty more stuff to be done and Hitch simply started us off. The countless number of people he has inspired will be here to carry the torch. :)
Laughed and cried(that´s the best way, you all know it) through the whole video. Thank you, sir/madame for making this video. This man was truly a remarkable person who with Dawkins, Harris and the whole Youtube atheist community changed me as a person to something so much better as a human being. See you in the stars( the ones in future), Christopher!
Christopher Hitchens is too good for heaven and too much of a rebel for hell. Nothing can contain this man, not even his own death which will be felt for years to come.
"A mind similar to my own, but enormously more powerful, more systematic, less fear-ridden" from '1984'. Hitch spoke of Einstein as being the first to truly unify Intellect with Belief. Hitch I think is the first to unify both of these with something else - Personality. This outpouring of affection for him comes because to have listened to him was to have known him - to be engaged on a very human level, and in his words recognise yourself.
I was feeling bummed out about losing Mr Hitchens, so i decided to watch a few videos of him. After bouncing from video to video, I found this one. I'm writing this as a 30 year old man with tears running down my face. Christopher Hitchens was one of my favorite people on this planet.
Sadly, we can't live forever.....but Hitch made amazing use of his time on earth.
If i can become half the man that he was, i'll die happy.
RIP my hero christopher hitchens......you opened my eyes to rational thinking and the fact you refused to convert on your deathbed speaks volumes to all of us. you were an inspiring man and i will never forget you!
@InformationMinister - I was emailing my girlfriend and telling her how silly I feel today, crying all day on and off over the loss of a man I've never met. It's so nice to see so many others doing the same. I do feel that I know him, having read so many of his works, having seen hundreds of interviews and debates. Thank you for expressing your sincere feelings too.
@LaVraiVerite : Wikipedia: Hitchens has written of his homosexual experiences when in boarding school in his memoir, "Hitch-22." These experiences continued in his college years when he allegedly had relationships with two men who eventually became a part of the Thatcher government.
Was sodomite Christ' Hitchens' hollow death an early Christmas gift, or retribution for the total-war that he endorsed against the mothers & children of the Arab sphere?
An eloquent speaker, brilliant debater, and robust hero of reason and humanity. The world's collective IQ has taken a hit. Hitchens will be remembered for standing up against religious bullying and clerical intimidation, for denouncing hypocrisy and idiocy for what they truly are, for exposing frauds like mother Theresa and shedding light on criminals like the pope. If Hitch has taught me anything, it's that "those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither security nor liberty." <3
Christopher Hitchens & his words live on through his extremely direct and unambiguous words. He has my gratitude and respect as a man not afraid to take an unpopular position and HAMMER IT WITH HIS HIGH INTELLECT. I love how he responds to the "fat-ass chain smoking drinking contrarian.." with "I don't see what's wrong with that"!!! gotta love it!
RIP Christopher Hitchens. The planet is poorer without you
“Beware the irrational, however seductive. Shun the 'transcendent' and all who invite you to subordinate or annihilate yourself. Distrust compassion; prefer dignity for yourself and others. Don't be afraid to be thought arrogant or selfish. Picture all experts as if they were mammals. Never be a spectator of unfairness or stupidity. Seek out argument and disputation for their own sake; the grave will supply plenty of time for silence.”
I never did understand how people can cry for someone they've never met. But now I know. I really only got the 5 minute mark of this video before I could just feel that dreaded lump in my throut. Through his words, you really felt like you knew him.
He died December 15, 2011. I came to watch this video as soon as I found out. Hitchens is a legend, and he changed the lives of countless people, including mine. We will miss you Christopher Hitchens. Thank you for your great contributions. My condolences to his family.
Hitch, I love you so much... I know that I repeat myself, but I write what I feel. You are a great human being and my personal hero with Thomas Paine, Voltaire, Sagan and Dawkins. But you are my No 1 :) Even if you leave us, (I hope not soon) you will be forever in my heart. I wish you speedy recovery. I think of you every minute of my life. CANCER, let him live, he has much to do for mankind. KISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSessss for HITCH. Karla
I am originally from China and Youtube is banned there. Now am living in UK and i think the best thing that came out of my UK experience is that i got to know this great great man and and as it is mentioned in another comment he definitely represents the ultimate power of education .He is an inspiration to me and i believe for many others.Get well Mr Hitchens!
I love this video, it makes me teary every time. I hope with all my heart he can beat this cancer. I can't think of anything more depressing than a world without the Hitchslap :( All my love to you, Mr Hitchens, thank you for your honesty and humanity. Keep fighting!
Hitchens is refreshing b/c he's a powerhouse person who really gives a shit. Typically people with his brains and ability just chase money, and make excuses for the status quo.
@Nemesis0300 Sadly he has passed.... he will be in our hearts surely but lets also keep him in our brains(so to speak) he gave us enough material to kick nonsense where it hurts most...

Beautifully done but I think a tribute is a little premature. The John Stewart appearance is heartbreaking knowing what we know now. I hope that he comes through this, we need good men on this planet.
Not enough Hitch in the tribute, too much Coldplay.... which is to say that Coldplay appears at all. Why would anyone think that song works in this context? Because Hitchens is warm, cuddly and prone to sappy pouts of sentimentalism? That must be it. Come on, change the music.
Beautiful and Powerful stuff. The legacy of Sir Hitchens will always be grand, especially in the mind of those who knew him well through his works. Not over till its over. :)
