Do you know how to get the Main Toolbar up because I accidently marked the cross when I was moving it around. Now I can't access the 'links' feature after trying in all menus.

The problem with toycar is that it can only move in a straight line. Unless they've changed it at autodesk.

try using Customize->Show UI, and select all the options. or try reinstalling 3ds max again.
