  • thanks for the share

  • Sadly, it shouldnt be necessary to point out that research in literature should be independent of ideology.

  • Cool prof.

  • They should have Professor Cantor on more often. I like him. lol

  • anti-capitalist bias from professors who are jaleous about people who aren't that smart but have lots of money... reason tv is ABIT missleading name for your show...

  • Asking a professor what students are thinking has at least two problems. Students are somewhat self-selecting beyond freshman level basics - they sign up for professors who have a reputation they like. Because professors have so much potential influence on their future, students may tell a professor what they think the professor wants to hear rather than what they think.

  • I enjoy Michael Moynihan.

  • I think he is giving Wells too much credit. He was a brilliant idea man, no question, but his plots are rubbish. War of the Worlds as a case in point. Martians attack, kill people, catch a cold and die. The End. I'll throw in the Time Machine. Man goes into the future, sees cool stuff, comes home. The End. No plots and no characterization.

  • @EvilDandy You know War of the Worlds was political commentary on the British Empire right?

  • @fishsama999 True, Yes, I did know that. But alas interesting concepts do not necessarily automatically make good plots. In keeping with this, one the the great bad movies of the 80's "They Live" is based on a similar concept concerning American rather than British Imperialism.

  • From the description: "Approximately 6.45 seconds." Now that's a short interview...

  • I wonder what Cantor thinks of Russell Roberts' "The Invisible Heart" and "The Price of Everything?"

I loved these free market-promoting stories by one of my favorite economists.

  • Yes, perfect. Cantor reminded me of something I had forgotten and he made it so crystal clear. He answered the question "Why are so many professors and academics (the supposed intelligentsia) Liberals?" - Simply because they see that they are not as rewarded by the market as other people who they see as their intellectual inferiors. Hence their rejection of the market system. A beautiful, and so obviously correct, analysis - Perfect !!

  • Perfect indeed!

  • I wish this video were longer.

  • finally! we got a perfect exit shot!

  • Amen on political correctness. I'm a neoliberal Democrat, and I get annoyed at the level of political correctness on my campus. I've also never been able to understand why people can be such strong opponents of capitalism.

  • Cool, young people thinking libertarian.

  • Comment removed

  • I would definitely like to hear more from Paul Cantor. Keep em' coming.

  • thumbs up

  • @ 2:29; I've have thought this since I was in college... maybe I should finaly check out Hayek & Mises.

  • Jealousy is a bitch for the Progressive-Fabian Socialists.

They don't call it a DEADLY SIN for nothing!

  • @yakyakyak69 Correct. Envy is farrrr worse than greed.

  • @Steve83B

    ABSOLUTELY!

Greed has a positive side which increases productivity, innovation, inspiration. In FACT, (almost) ALL of mankind's advancments are based on greed and the desire to improve one's SELF and one's LIFESTYLE.

    Envy is ALL bad!

  • Its quite simple why people would be drawn to Ron Paul, unlike Liberalism and Conservatism, Libertarianism believes in actually leaving people alone and recognize that the world isnt perfect and no government program can change that.

  • @chevydriver1123 How is that unlike "Conservatism". In quotes because the word means to conserve and says nothing about *what* it is conserving.

  • 6:44 Interesting, but too short!

  • What I wouldn't have done for a libertarian professor. Or a conservative of just about any stripe, for that matter. Just one, non-socialist/communist.

  • @0HippyHunter0 i had a libertarian law professor, talk about one in a million.

  • @0HippyHunter0 I've had 3 teachers (1 in economics and 2 in history) in high school/college. They'll always be my favorite teachers.

  • You spent 5 minutes talking about libertarianism in fiction without mentioning Ayn fucking Rand. I'm so proud of you.

  • @MrCivilLibertarian Not all libertarians are fans of Ayn Rand. I tend to view Ayn Rand as a humanist without taking into effect basic morals and ethics which people should hold for others. Rand has been a poster girl for the elitests in business to justify excessive greed without an regard to how they are hurting others.

  • @residentzombie Not only for the elites in business but as a poster child by big government proponents as the embodiment of all things wrong with libertarianism. Ayn might have some interesting things to say but far to many people take her views as being akin to the bible and should be followed with unquestioned reverence.

  • @kawaiigardiner No I would say you would take her views with an active mind

  • LvM Institute for the win
