"iF A BLK MAN KILLS A WHT MAN THAT MURDA 1, IF A WHT MAN KILLS A BLK MAN THAT'S SELF-DEFENSE, BUT IF A N**** KILLS A N****, THAT'S JUST ANOTHER DEAD N*****". SO WHATCHA GON DO NOW?!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this 1994 album is really infamous now huh?...lol... I've been listening to this album alot lately and I don't understand the harsh criticism. I know gangsta rap was selling like crack in the mid 90's....so most people didn't want to hear PE. Mabye the album wasn't great but I don't think that the 1994 lp was bad....there are some good tracks on it....
Ya, del is the only one I know of that does as much avant garde type beats as PE.
However other groups that have a somewhat similar feel to the beats and anywhere near the level of intelligent creativity as PE are The Beastie Boys, De La Soul, and A Tribe Called Quest,
FavorHouse21 -PE has an extensive catalog something like 14 records... There really are no others in their hemisphere, but NWA's Straight Outta Compton, and KRS-1 come the closest. Check Tribe Called Quest for similar beats to this record...
i never saw this video, but i most certainly remember the cut. it was a good album too. the game just changed from afrocentricity to gangsta rap and they no longer appreciated PE.
theres a line in a recent PE song that where chuck says,"OLD CATS BE BEGGIN' US TO BRING THAT BEAT BACK, EACH GENERATION BE THINKIN' THAT THE NEXT ONE IS WACK..." The generation before us didn't understand or appreciate rakim', epmd, PE, nwa, redman, etc., etc., the corporations seized the art form and prostituted it, but some cats still carry the torch. common, nas, twalib, dead prez, most def, and a few others.
Hip-Hop nowadays seems to be controlled by the major labels which promote guys who would have never be permitted to record in the 80s or early 90s. Maybe the term "corporate rappers" would be best to describe those guys.
Check out guys and crews like TPE, BDP, Gang Starr, Paris, EPMD, NAS and all the other guys from the golden age still recording.
Just forget about all the P-Diddys, No Limit Guys and all the other modern slaves of the industry
Its insane, everytime I find a PE song like this that I somehow haven't heard before it is just sick, sick, sick, sick like nearly all the rest; never fails.
Ya, that's one of only a couple albums I don't have of theirs. I personally like fear of a black planet best; "Theres a poison goin on" least but its still a sicker album than 95% of anything else.
Poison album is a grower. Tracks such as 41:19, Crayola and Do You Wanna Go Our Way??? are really good. Fear of a Black Planet is an excellent album also.
its more pro black than anti white, chuck said he thinks peopel should be treated equally regardless of race, this song is basically going against the "gangsta" cultrue and saying (and i agree) that its destructive to the black community and it only fuels white racism.
i agree, its a low form of blacksploitation, while ive never seen him dis flav straight up, he gets a bit cynical when flav is meantioned in interviews.
this song is really sad to me because its so true. where do the audio clips at the end come from? (idk if they are in this version)
what an intense track. always sounds great on the road. it's always the same tho, censor all these words but 'Gd' is fine. where did this vid come from.
Was always one of my favorite songs back in middle-school but I never saw this video, MTV most likely censored it just like By the Time I Get to Arizona, Welcome to the Terrordome, and Hazy Shade of a Criminal. Its amazing they've shown all the negative BS from Death Row and G-unit and this was too explicit for them. I hope this shit isn't prophetic, but great video.
us as black people need to better our selfs now that gansta shit need to go and set better examples for our younger brothers and sisters for the future and this track by the way is deep
this came out when I was in like 5-6 grade I bought this and had it in my pants. outside the store 7 older black guys punched me and kicked me for wallet and tape in mil. I got away but that shit was nuts. I was little.
you know what I hate, censorship. Why is the word shit censored. I know it is a naughty word, but it is what Chuck-D intended, same with the word motherfucking. Great song though, thanx for posting, to bad you dont have un-censored.
Damn...every PE fan knows how talented the Bomb Squad is and the classic albums they made before this album, but this beat always strikes me as their best...even without D's lyrics, the beat is almost sending a message in itself.
Like 50 Cent. Has numerous mansions and 50-60 cars. He is a "gangster" and one who always has gone on about how black he is, and his heritage as a black man.
Still he has not given one FUCKING cent to a "fellow" brother. Okey if he had 3 cars, a couple of houses and a helicoptre. But just think how much he could give back to the ghetto if he didn't spend all the rest on unneccesary riches.
50 doesn't say shit about black heritage on any of his bull shit ass records i've had the misforunate of listening to...but the second part of what you said is true...
I come from Norway. The country giving the most money to poor countries of them all. And we have not done shit to Africa. We have not raided a cent like the French, Great-Britain, Spain, Portugal and America!
These countries, who have been the ones "raping" the likes of Africa, are the ones who should be solving what they caused. Stop blaiming all whites, thats stupid! But go on blaim America etc. The country rather spend all their money on war than on helping peops
shame hip hop has changed so much its now rnb / pop gangsta uzi-jakuzzi rymes ,hip hop used to be a culture ,now its everything that is was against...dont talk to me about sellout....
you should check out some uk hip-hop, its bangin, more poetic n rap battle based rather than the swill of shit the us is bringing out, litsen to jehst, task force, dr syntax, etc... tis good shit, n best of all its underground n not about making money!!
Muse Sick N Hour Mess Age or (Music in our message) has always been one of my fav PE albums, the album cover alone was strong enough to grab your attention.
Well I'm just gonna say peace to those who can appreciate this album and in my book P.E. is still running strong.
Interesting concept & it is more relevant now w/ Obama running 4 prez. I'm surprised no one commented that GTA San andreas used those gang colors on their game
Actually no it's the Security of the First World, part of PE, helping to save a fictional presidential black candidate from assassination at the hands of Neo-Nazis.
Anybody know of any other hip hop group with so much intelligent political and social commentary? I dont. Musicians hardly ever bother now days with intelligent, relevant messages in their music and if they do its watered down as hell compared to PE. My fave group of all time.

does anybody really believe that all those guys who "put caps" in cops are really murderers ?

Many of the Consitution laws are outdated...People tend to forget when that
Back then the threat of Natives, Wild Animals, etc forced them to make that law

This video is to show that JFK wasnt assinated and that we was saved by a mysterious group of people.

Actually no it's the Security of the First World, part of PE, helping to save a fictional presidential black candidate from assassination at the hands of Neo-Nazis.

After the beat hooks you, then the lyrics just straight blows your mind, the video is just the icing on the cake. Public Enemy is sick!!

Anybody know of any other hip hop group with so much intelligent political and social commentary? I dont. Musicians hardly ever bother now days with intelligent, relevant messages in their music and if they do its watered down as hell compared to PE. My fave group of all time.
