Most of these unattractive people unluckily think they're a 8, 9 or 10, and contrastingly the attractive ones rate themselves as average or below; it tells a lot about one's personal perception. Also, perhaps narcissism and overconfidence manifests itself as ugliness, whilst humility and health equates to beauty. A great personality, and uniqueness both mentally and physically supplements one's beauty, but only to a certain point...

If I go with modesty, it'd be 2 or 3, but honestly 5 is fine. I don't hate myself, I have certain traits and qualities that I admire about myself, but I also know the bad traits that I wish I don't have, which I don't want others to witness, something I believe others feel too. Then again, it's really difficult to do this because our judgement is often subjective to other's as well. I mean, it's kind of difficult to say anything above 5 when the only compliments I get are "nice guy" compliments.

It's not implied in the rating system that five is average, you would have to have had all the people in the world rated by the same person with the same criteria, in order to define average. And that could easily not be five. Plus, what kind of average is that? Mean? Median? Mode?

Think about school grades. 6 is usually a passing grade, you would have to be in a pretty shitty class in order for 5 to be average.

I've been reading about "rating systems" lately,and this makes it so clear that it's really pretty arbitrary - contrary to what some say...

I give myself a 4 for looks, but maybe a 5 for intelligence.

I rate my physical appearance to 2, because people are way to shallow these days, they don't look at personality as a value anymore(very rarely happens). But I have a passion to knowledge and being a life lover, and loving others, and I am also a philosoph. I am not shallow at all, and I don't give a shit about others appearance. Maturity is what matters to me, and I find quality in personality, not appearance. I rate my personality to 9, because noone is perfect, but you can be pretty near. =)

It is so interesting to see what the people I view as attractive say about themselves, and then what the people that don't necessarily catch my eye say. I think I have a rather interesting view on attractiveness. I'm not sure what I would say for myself.

Firstly i just wanna say this was a really good idea. ummm but what i would say is what is attractiveness? you cant really compare yourself with other people because everyone is different and attractive in there own way, so in my oppinion it would be really hard to rate yourself. really interesting and kool idea though :) im inspired to do something like it.

Wow. I gotta say that I was really stunned that about 90% of the people overrated themselves! I was totally expecting them to underrate instead. I guess most people are a lot more conceited than I thought! :-( (Oh, and for the record, since I'm not conceited, I would rate myself as the 3(at most) that I am)

That doesn't necessarily mean you're conceited. It could mean that you are confident. Why should a person have to feel like they're unattractive? I don't believe anyone's a perfect 10, but I don't believe anyone should rate themselves really low either. Rating yourself horribly means your self-esteem is holding you back.

Attractiveness is about more than just what's on the outside. I would give myself a 7, because I'm a good person to others, am caring, and am fun-loving, but am not perfect.

I live in the real world, not the world I would "like" to live in. Rating myself low does not mean I have a problem with self esteem. It means I see myself as I ACTUALLY am, and not as I would like to be. I DO agree that whats inside counts too, but it was obvious to me that the question was referring to physical and not inner beauty. I would definitely rate myself higher than a 3 based on my personality, from the way people interact with me in a positive way.

Oh, I had viewed the question as referring to inner beauty too. Still, though, if a person wants to believe they are physically attractive, let them. If they're happy with how they look, good for them. I thought it was kind of refreshing to see people who aren't afraid to be happy with themselves the way they are.

I find it funny that some of these people say nothing about their personality, or anything besides their looks when asked about attractiveness. Physical appearance does play a part in it, but it's not everything.

I would consider myself a 4, or perhaps a 5. I'm not really good-looking for the most part, but I have other attributes that could qualify me as attractive.

Although, I can understand someone assuming that the question would refer to physical attraction, but I still think that they should at least have strayed from that topic a bit. Personality, in some cases, is even more important than looks.

People become more beautiful in my eyes as they prove to me that they are good people or people who want to hurt others. For example, my Spanish teacher started at a 2, but now she's beautiful in my eyes an 8 or a 9. Attractiveness and beauty really are in the eye of the beholder. This in mind, I'd give myself a 7, because it's just a little above average, but I don't think that I can see myself as a BEAUTIFUL person as far as my actions have shown me anything. Just pretty good looking. :)

I think though, Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

If I had to answer I'd probably say 6, because I have odd teeth, and can be grumpy but I'm also very kind and have a very slender body.

P.S. Why do people think of "celebritys" as automatically being "up there" at 10?

Attractive is more objective than beautyfull i suppose and i think it showed that most people have quit a good sense of their objective appearance, the few self affirming tens aside, but the type of people seemed rather alike would adding variety there add some insights?

I forgot to say why... hrmm... oh physical... a 6 because for every aspect I love, there's something I hate. And I simply don't put much (almost no?) effort into my appearance. I'm perfectly content... I don't want that 6 to express a discontent, just if I judged myself by the 'average' or whatever.

As for overall being an 8, it'd be because I try my best to be a loving person, a tolerant person... and someone with integrity (which I value above all else i think).
