Thanks for posting Bishop Sheen do you know the women like my grandmother use top dress up to watch him on their televisions in their own homes? Well they did... amazing compared to the times we find ourselves in.
he was Gods gift to modern culture and C.S lewis too we need bishops like him brillent man and i love when he leaves how he ends it and the crowd did there duty!
I am Episcopalian....and I truly admire Fulton Sheen and his books/teachings have blessed me greatly. He really was a mighty man of God and dedicated his life to serving Christ. He is still blessing people with his wise words and teachings.
No one quite like Bishop Sheen. Amazing speaker and an amazing man who always spoke courageously for the truth. Thanks for these stunning 5 minutes of video!
Thank you for posting this! Bishop Fulton Sheen was a Godly Man who was touched by the Holy Spirit and allowed the Spirit to work in His life. Just think...He is with God the Father and the Son & the Holy Spirit in Heaven! Awesome thought! My Polish Babci turned me on to Him in the 70's She lived in Jersey and traveled to NYC to hear Him teach and attend the mass! Babci is with them all in Heaven too!
benchmoving, do you have ANY clue as to what sin is??? It seems NOT. His "attacks"??? Pardon me? Did you hear ANYTHING that this man said about the Messiah or were YOU to busy hating him??
one of the greatest american thologians, and one of the wisest american catholic scholars of all time.
I wish I could have seen him while he was alive :{ I did meet father groschel once in Fort wayne at a holy hour once in Indiana. he is the promogetater of the cause of cannonazation for several americans. and does sunday night live on ewtn.
Benedict Groschel is cut from the same cloth as Bishop Sheen. Both holy, compassionate and Godly men. I'd love to meet him myself someday. And like you, I wish that I could have met Bishop Sheen.
but more then that they were so scholarly in their approach, in essance the perfact speaker something that many priests have yet to learn though they teach well its nothing like a well aged teacher to reach people
"O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, and I detest all of my sins because I dread the loss of heaven and the pains of hell, but most of all because they offend Thee my God who are all good and deserving of all my love, and I firmly resolve with the help of thy grace to confess my sins, to do penance, and to ammend my life. amen."
We don't know when the Lord will come again, but when he does, he will have scars in place of his wounds, and this is how he will judge us "show me your hands, your feet, your heart" (reminds me of Thomas wanting to touch the wounds of Christ and then believing). He points out that the only god with wounds is our God. He teaches his listeners how to pray the Act of Contrition:
Well, it was decades ago. The applause dies, but the message lives on. The participants didn't seem offended or put off and Bishop Sheen did bow and acknowledge his listeners. I was going to say audience or fans; now THAT might have been an offense!
Let us value and embrace the good and simply let go of the other.
My dear friend, It is not a MASS but a reflection or what we today call a Charismatic Service. As a Semenarian I do understand where you got that from Canon Law but does not apply to this service. Blessings.
I agree. There should not be that type of applause in front of the Blessed Sacrament, and I'd bet in his younger days, Bishop Sheen would have put a quick stop to it, but after a decade of being a part of the new novus ordo religion softened even him.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ditto wjweigand. Bishop Sheen unfortunately succombed to modernism. Hopefully not unto his last breath.
It's so sad to see such irreverence in front of the Blessed Sacrament. This clearly shows the audience were there for Bishop Sheen instead of Our Lord.
Sheen was no modernist mate, another thing might the audience have been there because Bp Sheen spoke so well of the Lord Jesus Christ. for 60 years?
also your ludicrous sedevacantist positon puts you squarely against Vatican 1, I think you wern't fully converted from your protestant errors. Even willamsaurus rex doesn't got that far.
Perhaps those people should come to see Bishop Sheen, but there is no excuse for the clapping or the New Rite of 1969 for that matter.
Just had a Polka Mess in my parts. Yeehaw! Let's dance!
Thanks for your concern about my sedevacantist positon. Vatican I was a great Council. I also agree with everything the Code of Canon Law of 1917 says and I follow the Balitmore Catechism as well.
@StreetcornerCatholic My parish will break out in applause at the drop of a hat. Holy Mass is a sacrifice, not a performance.....at any rate, the Good Friday service is not technically a Mass, so maybe some leeway with the applause is warranted.
It makes me sad that this was the end of Bishop Sheen's wonderful contributions to the Catholic faith and to the people of the world. I've never met him and yet, I feel as though I miss him. God love you too, Bishop Sheen.
This man was just like a real apostle of our times - his teachings are so clear and orthodox - that's what always amazes me. Pity that he's totally unknown in Poland.
I was veery proud of the fact that I attended St. Agnes HS (44th Street)which was right behind St. Agnes Church (43rd Street) from 1983-1987, several years after Bishop Sheen pased. He loved St. Agnes Church and the street it is on is named "Fulton Sheen Place".
He was a brillant and an absolute man of God who didn't just preach the faith but explained and taught it to so many. A true man of faith and of God.
It is unbelievable how many spiritual, intellectual, charismatic, and physical blessings God bestowed on this incredible man to make him the optimal speaker of Catholic orthodoxy of our times! He is one of those preachers who leaves his hearers with no excuses.

His attack of psychiatry twice during this homily is reminiscent of scientology.
Psychology, human behaviour, and mental illness are real, despite of whether or not this speaker believes in them.
Sin is how we label behaviour that fits outside of what we find to be morally acceptable.

There shouldn't be applause during Mass, no matter who is speaking. It is not my opinion, but that of Canon Law.

He was considered for Sainthood and is in the beginning stages of that process. His Holiness Pope John Paul II elevated his name for this honor.
