  • thank you..I am taking a class on called History of Jewish Music and this was very helpful.

  • @rhcp257 I'm very glad to hear that! Thank you!

  • Just beautiful and this from an nice Italian boy :) To me, God gaveboth Tucker and Peerce Great voices to share with us.

  • @Michaelbos Beautifully said! Thank you!

  • A legendary tenor in treasured songs. TY for these great postings.

  • Music for my soul. Thank you.

  • @racheleleeba Yes, I am very fond of this music myself. I have a fair number of Peerce recordings. He was my idol when I was a boy. I love him to this day. I remember a long, long time ago when he sang "A Cantor For a Sabbath on the Ed Sullivan show. That was the great thing about Peerce---he was always available, either in person or on the air, and he seemed accessible, friendly, a real American opera singer. I never felt that way about Tucker--he was great, but somehow less accessible.

  • "Eli, Eli" is, of course, a well-known Yiddish lament and affirmation. The second piece, a folksong, I know from Mordechai Hershman's brilliant performance on an LP devoted to some of his renditions of Yiddish songs. Peerce is very good in this, but you must hear Hershman. Thanks, Edmund, for sharing these two songs by the excellent, versatile, yet often underrated Jan Peerce.

  • @meltzerboy -Toscanini never underrated Jan Peerce. JP was one of his favourites.

  • @paulostroff99 So true. Even those who don't care for Toscanini's conducting must admit he had great taste in singers. A Healthy, Happy New Year to you, Paul, filled with great music!

  • @meltzerboy -And to you as well my good friend Nate.
